[MOD] Classic Characters in Dead Men Walking

To celebrate the one-year anniversary of Max Payne 3 on PC, here's a small mod that I'm sure all fans of the first two Max Payne games and everybody with the Classic Character DLC will appreciate.

What do I need to use this mod?

To take advantage of this mod, you will need one of these at the very least:

• Windows PC version of Max Payne 3, either retail or Steam (this mod unfortunately does not work with the recently released Mac OS version of Max Payne 3, and will not work with the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 versions of the game)
  
  
• either the Classic Multiplayer Character DLC Pack (included in the special edition or the Rockstar Pass),
  
  
• the Classic Max Payne 1 Multiplayer Skin (by itself or within the Rockstar Pass),
  
  
• or the Deathmatch Made in Heaven DLC Pack (by itself or within the Rockstar Pass).
  

And to install the mod itself,

you will need to have Open IV to be able to use the user-friendly format that this mod is in!

Simply install Open IV, let it update, then launch it. Click on 'Max Payne 3' to set up your install location, then you can either click on 'Tools' and then 'Package Installer' within Open IV, or click on 'Package Installer' when you first launch Open IV after you set up your Max Payne 3 location. You can also associate the .OIV mod format with Open IV so that double clicking on the mod will automatically open the package installer.

What does this mod do?

Once you install it, it can do several things!

• Play as classic characters from Max Payne 1 and 2 within the Dead Men Walking co-op DLC of Max Payne 3 (not just Max and Passos anymore!)
  
  
• Play as the low polygon versions of the classic characters (aka the models directly from their respective games, and not the HD remakes that Rockstar remodelled) within both regular Deathmatch mode and Dead Men Walking (They will appear in your avatar selection with a "(LOW)" suffix after the name)
  
  
• Each player can play as either Max or Passos within Dead Men Walking (Previously, only the first player could play as Max Payne. Now you and your friend can both be Max if you want to!)

Best of all is that this mod is not, strictly speaking, "client-side". That means that other people will see you use the classic characters in Dead Men Walking or the low-poly versions in deathmatch!

Are there any bugs?

• Female characters don't have reload animations for some weapon types in Dead Men Walking for some reason, so you will literally just have your magazine refilled instantly when you try to reload. More of a feature, maybe?
  
  
• Female characters also have flat hands when wielding guns. I think both of these bugs are due to animation differences from male/female skeletons that I don't think I can fix.
  
  
• Low poly Winterson just doesn't work properly, so she is not included. May be able to fix this one day, but we'll see.
  
  
• The classic characters use Max or Passos' voice when you are uncuffing them, but use their respective voice taunts otherwise.

Please let me know if you find any other bugs you feel I should know about!

Is this safe to install?

Yes! Max Payne 3 does not use Steam's VAC system, so you will not get your Steam account disabled or VAC banned. This mod does not alter any .DLLs or change the gameplay experience, it merely edits some text files and is essentially just a visual mod. I can't comment on Rockstar's point of view of this mod, but they do have a rather passive support of modding and this mod does not alter anybody's gameplay experience. You still need to have either the Classic Characters DLC, or the Deathmatch Made in Heaven DLC. If you don't feel it's safe to use this mod, please don't compromise your views for my benefit, but I did release this mod to be enjoyed by all and wouldn't have done so if I felt it created an unfair advantage or inbalance in the gameplay! Although there is that no-reload-time thing with female models, but that's a glitch.

i would be very careful using such things in online mode, R* have no issues with mods on Offfline/Story Modes but online they will have your ass! i got banned from GTA V Online for such activity now the silly thing is there were no mods active or anything like it they detected the Mod App in memory it seems your first ban is 10 days so if you chance it take care they really dont like you changing the Game or Exploiting any kind of in game glitches. Handy mod though always nice to enahance the game even if its not a load of Naked Strippers lol
