General Tips and Techniques - No Spoilers
Introduction

I will here describe some techniques to improve your game in Disciples III: Renaissance and Resurrection. Some aspects might apply only to one or the other and I will mention it when it is the case. They are in no particular order and are written without any particular pretention, just because I love this game, I feel like sharing some of my past experience. I've played with the Steam version for both and have played all campaigns on normal difficulty.

Terms

- Main Hero: Your avatar (I guess), your hero will have a name like: Arion, Lambert, Haarus, Salaar, Amina. When I say "Send your hero", it generally means to send your Main Hero and the troops under his command.
- Troops: Regular soldiers of all types. You can choose their upgrade path by building specifics buildings in your cities.
- Cities: Towns which you can capture. Capitals are cities even if you cannot capture them.
- Capitals: Your inital Town that looks like your race and generally contains your guardian.
- Guardian: The "boss" that guards your Capital.
- Unit: Generally, this refers to Troops but can also include a Hero with no troops.
- Control: Having control of a map means that you have killed the highest level enemy hero and have now sieged their single city to intercept any new troops that come out.
- Map: Alternative for Mission or Act.
- Generic Hero: The ones you can hire from Towns. If you hire the same one again it's now known as a Veteran.
- Veteran: See Generic Hero.

Bug present in the game as of October 2018

There is a bug in the Steam version of the game. When you accumulate a certain number of items on a character, you will not be able to sell them when going at a vendor. There is a way to go around this limitation. The idea behind this is that you should try to accumulate valuable items so you can sell them later on, in later missions. As an example, try to buy some expensive items at the end of mission 1 so you can sell them at the start of mission 2. Then buy some expensive items at the end of mission 2 so you can sell them at the start of mission 3 and so on.

When you access your character screen, you will be able to see all of your items by pressing the right arrow multiple times. It's annoying when you have many items because the newer items always are the right-most end of your inventory. So up to here everything is fine.

The bug happens when you visit a shop and want to sell some of your items. You won't be able to see them at all on the vendor if and only if you have more than a certain number. In the vendor screen, even by clicking the right arrow to scroll your character's inventory, you'll never be able to see some of your items.

To circumvent this do the following: Hire a secondary hero. Then transfer the items you want to sell on that hero. Have that second hero enter the shop and you should see your items. Alternately, you could dump some items on the secondary hero until you go below the number of items that creates this bug.

Tips

1 - Max out on experience on your Main Hero on every map ASAP. This is to make sure that you always a strong a hero to oppose the enemy as possible.
2 - On each map, before completing the final mission objectives, if you have accumulated gold, you can spend it by buying items. Since your Main Hero might not be on all maps, you can leave some items on a Generic Hero (a Veteran).
3 - Potions don't carry over from mission to mission in your inventory. 'If ya didn't drink it, ya lost it!
4 - Since potions don't carry over, you can drink all you've got near the end of the map or when you have control. This means you can let units die in battle to focus the XP gains on specific troops and revive them after the battle with the extra potions you have.
5 - You can't have more than 3 beneficial effects on at the same time. If you drink another potion, it will remove the oldest effect you had.
6 - You can establish Control and then farm out the low level units that come out periodically from the enemy's Capital.
7 - Your troops should not die in 99% of the fights. That means almost never but sometimes, in a given very difficult battle, when nearing the end of a map, it's okay if one drops down.
8 - When your hero maxed out on experience, try to spread the remaining exeperience from the map on your Generic Heroes.
9 - Be careful when leveling up Generic Heroes. The higher the level, the more it will cost to hire them in future missions. The problem is not the price itself but more: when will be able to afford that amount on the next mission?
10 - When you are leveling up your Veterans, you can and should assign specific units with them to level them up also and to tailor them to the fight.
11 - Pass around the best equipment between your units as they fight. So if your Main Hero is now level 4 and has found a nice Talisman, when you want to take a fight with your level 1 Thief, give him the Talisman for that fight.
12 - Reach out for the Leadership skills first. When you have all the Leadership skills, then you can go for whatever you like.
13 - You will have all abilities. By the end game of the main campaign of Renaissance, I had almost saturated my skill tree with my Main Heroes on all races. There were about 2 squares left on each hero. So you will get all those nice abilities no matter what. The only thing that is important is in what order you gain them.
14 - In Renaissace, there was an exploit with the automatic Battlesave. If you reload a Battlesave, your hero will appear in the spot where he would fight. But he's free to act. So you can click on accessible treasures from this spot, or grab a node, exchange items, etc. Then you can finally either initiate the fight again or move elsewhere.
15 - In Renaissance, there is a powerful exploit with the Permanent potions from Alchemist shops. If you go in the shop and buy such a potion and get out, when you come back to the Alchemist he will not have any of that potion anymore. But if you show up at the store with enough money to buy... whatever amount you want, then the merchant will secretly reach out in his backstore and sell you whatever number of potions you want. In my Empire campaign, from what I remember, I accumulated 196K of gold before visiting the Alchemist. I overdid it a little bit and even boosted Inoel. 196K should get you about 10x each type of potion.
16 - Using the Wait command in Resurrection, you can tell a Fighter to wait if two enemies in range are low on health and your mage is about to act. Have the Fighter wait, then attack with the mage and finally tell the Fighter to finish off any remaining unit that has survived the mage's attack.
17 - When choosing between two equivalent units to attack in combat, consider their initiative. If one of your enemies has not acted yet and you can kill it now then it's better than to target a unit that has already acted this turn.
18 - Focus on leveling up your Troops. Aim to level up a number of troops which is about 2x your max leadership. So if you have 2 heroes, your main hero with leadership 5 and another hero with leadership 4, then try to have about 10 troops that you will fully level up, while keeping a small focus on 5 of them. That way you're not spreading the experience too thin but also you will be able to field 2 heroes with 5 troops each or spread them otherwise.
19 - If you are not using the exploit for many Permanent potions, then you should at least buy all the Permanent potions you find in Alchemist shops and give them all to your Main Hero.
20 - Give all the Skill bonuses to your Main Hero.
21 - On each map, before completing the final mission objectives, if you have accumulated mana, you should spend it on crafting Runes. Keep them on your Main Hero so that you can use them on future maps.
22 - Make use of Trainers when there is one on the map. You should use that trainer to bring all of your troops and Heroes to max level for that map.
