Using Xbox 360 controller on Mist Survival (final revision)

How to use Big Picture Mode to use XBOX controllers in Mist using my own personal XB360 controller config. Final Revision of the config file now. ALL KEYS are on the pad and full left stick configure to improve the now much easier driving :)

Setting Up Controller (Final revision at the bottom)

Heya all,

If you are like myself and prefer to play your PC games with a controller then you was probably as dissapointed as i was that this game hasn't got controller support yet but as it is in very early alpha stages at the moment we can't give this great solitary dev a hard time as he has bought us a potentialy great game that i myself are enjoying very much, however all is not lost there is a way around this lack of controller and its as easy as whistling dixie. :)

So In this little guide I will help you setup an Xbox controller to work with Mist Survival and how to access my own configuration I have setup for this game. Or you can create your own configuration from within BPM.


Right lets begin shall we.

Step 1

Go to steam\settings\controller and select "General Controller Settings" on the top right (pic 1), When the blue box opens check the box for "xbox configuration support" (pic 2) when its checked just close the blue box and close the settings tab and thats the first part done see really easy isn't it :)


Step 2

Turn on your controller or plug it in (if you use wired) and start Mist Survival. Getting easier folks :)
(controller must be switched on before starting game for this to work)

Step 3

Now game is loaded go into options\Keymapping and set to default (if you use default keys already you can skip this bit) and exit back to main screen.

Step 4

Press Shift+Tab to enter Big Picture Mode and you will see a controller config section (pic 1 below) click it and now you can either create your own configuration binding keys to the relevant buttons of your choice or you can select browse configs from the bottom of the screen (pic 2 below) ( you will need to browse if you want to use my config) and click community then select my setup titled "Maconijnrs Mist Survival XB360/1 controller" (pic 3 below) (there's other options to choose from if you wish) open it and apply by clicking done in the bottom of the screen. (pic 4 below) Exit Big Picture Mode by selecting return to game. (last pic)



Step 5

Start game and enjoy with working controller support :)....see that wasn't so hard now was it :)






A footnote for if you use my config any buttons with 2 functions assigned to them you just press for 1st option and hold it down for the second option, also when in the inventory left trigger acts as right mouse and right trigger acts as left mouse meaning you can still use all right mouse options that are available in the inventory.

Right thats my good deed for the day done so i'm back off hunting those damn bears lol

EDIT:

Key F is under the X button ....to move an object hold X
the 1-6 Hotbar is on the dpad up=1 right=2 down=3 left=4 Hold up for 5 Hold down for 6

tweaked the sensitivty for much smoother operation in config and added the cancel option to the B button (hold B to cancel a blueprint)

I will not be making any more changes to the config file after this :)
After putting many hrs now into fine tuning the config in this final revision.

Changes:
I have reconfigured the left stick for driving now that the car has been fixed in game so now driving is a great deal easier with the controller.
All keys are now on the controller.
V = Hold A
Q= Hold Right Bumper

love what you did with controller play..
i added the mouse wheel scroll to your config and saved it as original name just added mouse wheel to end of your title. so if you want to copy and revise your config again ill delete mine..

Shame for that controller, its really nice having it for some games, and emulators.
Nice to hear that this still work.
You can share it on forums with people asking for it, if you want.
I will test it later when i find time.

About game mechanics, its really simple, game does some wierd bugged mappings on first run.
Take a look at inpun.ini file, it has some wierd gamepad mappings for ie slot 3 ( we know people complain that it just equips and unequips whatever they have there) and when contoller is in, game goes crazy.
When you delete those mappings tho and lock file game is fine with controller, kinda not so good on mapping all the inputs but i see you figured out that.

As far as I am aware yes it's still working :) my son broke my controller, :( so not played for a while with controller, but yes was still working last time I did :) only works through BPM though without BPM enabled the controllers screw with the game mechanics :)

I see people asking for controller support on discussion forums, i have seen this before but as i don't play mist with controller i skipped it.
Few days ago i have been playing with a controller and found out why game goes crazy with controller connected, fixed it and tried mapping controller and even tho i kinda made it, it still wasnt really enjoyable to play with it.
I have dualshock4 but i use ds4windows to make it look like xbox controller for games.

Final revision of the config I have put a great deal of hrs into tweaking the controller to get it just right and the Final Revision config is that what i was looking for so i will be making nomore changes. thank you for all of those that have used or are using my config files even if you have modified them yourselves I am happy that gamers can play this masterpiece in the making, using controllers if they so wish :)

My apologies to anyone who may have been using my original config file i updated the config with some tweaks not knowing the original would get removed when i uploaded the tweaked version if you liked the original config then please use the new version its the same just moves smoother and and the cancel option has been added to the B button :) thankyou
