Don't forget to train both survivors while not repairing or building; it took me until Day 35 to have enough traps to clear raiders without fighting and even earlier to max out both mother and son's stats.
There are a limited number of cordites and wiring; you can use these to make Good Pipe Bombs. Two will delete any non-boss raiders but unlike Excellent, you risk a dud. Just reload with Alt+F4 and try until both bombs work.
Choosing your attack target is actually easy to do, but also easy to overlook, you simply click on the person you prefer to target before you instruct your character to attack. The currently selected target should be displayed in the upper right of the screen.
For traps, I believe each tier of trap increases its chance of hitting, with the spike traps only having an initial chance around 1/3 of the time. When a trap does miss it's incredibly frustrating, but that is also part of why you want to upgrade your traps as soon as you are able as the better traps also hit more frequently. The final rifle turret trap doesn't require a tripwire at all, you just need ammunition.
in my games, when in combat, there is no disarm option even when the enemies have weapons.
Also, I have never seen the ability to choose your attack target in any game mode, they seem to choose randomly on there own.
For the traps, I always get 3 spike ones setup right at the entrance on the 1st floor, and its very rare for even 1 of the 3 to not miss. making it seem like your just throwing away nylon you could be making bandages out of.
So far I havent been able to get past the 3 attacker wave right after the 1st trader comes.
