Winchester M1 Carbine

A lightweight carbine developed for support troops of the US Army, providing them with a reliable rifle that was not as cumbersome as the M1 Garand. Largely based on the earlier Winchester self-loading rifles, the carbine fired the lightweight .30 Carbine round, which granted superior power to pistol cartridges while retaining power and range. Alongside the main carbine a folding stock version, the M1A1, was also produced. The original version had flip-up sights, which were replaced with a ladder sight in 1944. The carbine did not have a bayonet and was instead issued with the M3 fighting knife, this was changed in 1945 with the addition of a bayonet lug to all existing carbines and the issuing of the new M4 bayonet, based off the M3 knife. It was used mostly as a rear guard and paratrooper weapon throughout WW2 and remained in use throughout the Korean and Vietnam wars. Nowadays it has become a popular civilian firearm.

Winchester M2 Carbine

A select-fire version of the M1 Carbine introduced in the closing stages of WW2 in order to counter the German StG44. Conversions kits were also issued to apply to existing carbines, these were known as the M1/M2 Carbines. The M2, alongside the M1 remained in service throughout the Korea and Vietnam wars.
