Getting the Feather early on. [No longer possible with newest patch]
By Sven++
I've found a way to get the feather way more early in my following playthroughs, and doesn't require that you have too much progress in the game yet.

[EDIT] This is apparently no longer possible to do after the newest patch. Haven't played it yet, but it removes a vase in the room you absolutely needed to jump on. :(

To start with, this guide will obviously contain some spoilers, but I'll do my best to keep it as concise and spoilerfree as possible.
The method I'm going to use probably isn't intended by the dev, but in games like this where the dev feels free to ♥♥♥♥ you every chance he gets, I'd consider it fair to evade his design choices just this once. :p
Required items/skills to continue
Required to be able to continue:
  • Must have reached Valhalla area
    Reachable from a door at the leftmost top of the Divine Fortress, right below the 2 engineers, Eitri and somethingsomething

  • Must have the Beherit item
    Don't remember everything, but after you defeat the guardian of Valhalla you get called to the village to receive the item. (which is like somewhere off to the right side of Valhalla, spawns after you free the trickster, find him around valhalla, then talk to an NPC close by, the Ankh location is revealed)

    I don't remember perfectly, but I think you don't need any extra items apart from reaching Valhalla to get it.
• [EDIT] Not necessary to have the Grapple-walls ability, but personally prefer it to get to timing right more easily. Not using the Grapple probably does shave off a couple of hours though, since it's found in a different area.
  • Higher Health is a plus, but if you're careful you shouldn't need to waste much health.
  •
These are the only things you absolutely need to be able to do this, and once you reached Valhalla, the skill and item shouldn't be that for off to collect.
    Getting to the feather
    To get to the Feather (Double-jump ability), you'll need to traverse a part of Valhalla, and cross the corridor of blood, which is located here.

    This is something I only just found out after 16 hours of play, and I reckon some of you still don't.
    You'll realize that if you go in the corridor of blood, you'll be forced to go to the left into an area connected to the Shrine Of Frost Giants and exiting though THAT door changed the corridor layout (kinda ashamed to admit I only tried this hours later after I got stuck somewhere else and just happened upon this)

    You can use the Beherit item on the door of the Corridor Of Blood to change the layout. Starting in front of the Corridor door in Valhalla, keep using Beherit until the needle is pointing slightly tilted downwards to the right as in the picture. Now enter, keep going right untill you enter the door, and now you find yourself in the Dark Lord's Mausoleum.

    From here on fall 2 chambers down, go 1 to the left and place the Weight to open the door, and drop down. In this room, you need to take the leftmost stairs up, keep going left and now you're in the room with a chest.

    Acquiring The Feather
    The correct way to clear this room probably involves as read on the tablet, something that can harness the Power Of Storms. 16 hours in, and I know where it is, but no idea how to get it yet. :(
    • Clear out the 2 big floating enemies first, they're just an annoyance.
    • To get the chest to open, smash the tablet on the LEFT until it breaks (Just hit it with any weapon a couple of times) and voila, an open, but unreachable chest.
    • Trigger the floating enemy orbs so they fly around the room, but don't kill them. If 4 is too chaotic for you, keep 2 of them alive.
    • The trick to reaching on top of the platform is to hook yourself on the edge of the platform by jumping on top of the vase. Right before one of those floating orbs is close and going to hit you, jump right into it, and with some luck you'll be punched back right on top of the platform!

    Now you're in reach of the chest, and in possesion of a pair of shiny new feathers. Happy treasure hunting!

    I actually felt really bad for getting the feather early. I didn't want to sequence break, so I avoided paths where the double jump was required.
    It was such a relief to finally reach the feather chest the legit way.

    @mrtomoto A www, haven't played it yet, but I'll check it out later. Lucky indeed I got it before the patch hit ;p

    That's how I got the feather early, but it's no longer possible after the patch. The upper vases have been removed from the room.

    Apart from the tablet nearest the Corridor of Blood in Valhalla in the area of Shrine of the Frost Giants via Annwfn, there is an NPC that tells you that .

    Wow, I didn't even know you could do that with the Blood Gate. Is there a place in the game that tells you, I hope?

    Also would like to add, once you obtain the Crucifix item this method is no longer possible, since the Crucifix item provides immunity and death to spirits on contact . The point where this happens is after beating the Dark Lord's Mausoleum's boss and claiming the treasure .

    I ended up getting the feather the same way.

    For those curious of how to genuinely get the feather, there is a boss just above the room that you have to beat that conveniently drops you into the alcove, reachable via the Corridor of Blood by going left, down, then left.

    The boss is invincible to all damage. If you read around the mausoleum, it becomes apparent what you need, but seeing as you have to beat Jormungandr to get Mjolnir,the ability to get hit by lightning attacks and deal it back out having the extra mobility before that point is welcome.

    @Matt

    You drop down twice. There's a door you open with the weight.

    I've gone two down, one left and there is no place for a weight in that room.

    @Dan Yea, come to think of it, the grapple claw's probably not necessary. It really does help me though, because it makes it way easier to get the timing right.

    @PewPew WOOPSY. Sorry about that!

    @Hobbs I was gonna mention what the requirements for items were, but I already forgot about them after a while. I made the mistake of not making my own maps and journal on paper while playing. :p
