how to get japanese audio with English subtitles/text

/!\ WARNING /!\ some mods may conflict with this and crash your game! im not responsible of anything that happens!

if you want some interface text to be japanese too, read also italic words
if you want onlly audio, then just ignore them.


1. Set the game to Japanese in Steam, let it update.


2. Go to Program files/steam/steamapps/common/skyrim/data and backup the "Skyrim - Voices.bsa" and "Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa" files to somewhere.

If you want the various menus in Japanese (does not include names, subtitles, or items), then also backup the "Translate_English.txt" in the Interface folder in there.


3. Switch the game language back to English in Steam, let it update.


4. Copy back and overwrite the newly downloaded English files with your previously backed up Japanese ones

Replace the word "Japanese" in any filename in the interface folder with the word "English".


5. Then just hope Steam doesn't try to update the files you changed. You may want to turn off auto-updating.

If you have a non-Steam copy of Skyrim, you can grab the files from a friend who has the Steam version using the same method.

Not working for me. As soon as downloading finished after language change, game's launcher (but not main executive), and voice bsa files are simply gone. Attempting to launch the game leads to immediate crash after logo. I even completely reinstalled the game under jap language with the same result. However, once I change language back to english and let it download, all above mentioned files are again on places and everything works fine.

Warning: watch out if you run skyrim with many mods... it can conflict and crash your game making you reinstall the game completely (tested by me... >.>)

Not to be rude, but why would you want Japanese with English subtitles? And I know it's not possible, but if only you could make all NPC's speak in ermahgerd......
