Star Wars Pinball: Episode V Video Guide

This guide contains videos on how to light kickbacks and the ball save as well as how to complete the main scenes and reach the wizard mode on the Star Wars Episode V table.

Kickbacks and Ball Save
Keeping the kickbacks and ball saver active at all times will aid you in your attempt to reach the final wizard mode. Try to always have them lit.

1) To activate the kickbacks you must light the L-A-N-D-O rollovers at the inlanes and outlanes. You can use the flippers to shift which letters are lit. After you light all the letters, the "Lite Kickback" lamps will flash below the left and right ramps. You will have around 5-7 seconds to shoot either the left or right ramp to activate either the left or right kickback, respectively.

2) After activating one kickback, you must repeat the process to activate the other kickback.

3)Once both kickbacks are activated, you can activate the Saber Saver, a ball save that will not deactivate until it is triggered. To light the Saber Save, again relight all the LANDO rollovers. You will then have around 10-15 seconds to shoot the left AND right ramps. If you hit both ramps within the time limit you will activate the Saber Saver.


Starting A Scene
You must complete a total of 6 scenes to reach the final wizard mode. To start a scene you must hit the center "STAR" and "WARS" spot targets. These targets can be raised or lowered by shooting the left ramp. After lighting both targets, a center cellar hole will open in the middle of the table. Shoot the ball into this hole to start a scene. You can change which scene you would like to start by using the left or right flipper and then select the scene using the launch button. You must complete Scenes 1-5 before 6 becomes available. Each scene is split into 2 or 3 checkpoints. Completing a checkpoint will save your progress. For example, if you complete checkpoints 1 and 2 of Scene 1 and you fail checkpoint 3, you can simply restart Scene 1 and you will only have to complete the 3rd checkpoint.
Scene 1
1) Checkpoint 1 has two parts. a) "Get the light saber" by shooting the ball into the upper left sinkhole 3 times. This sinkhole is located just below the R2-D2 pop bumpers. To reach this sinkhole simply shoot one of the flashing "Star Wars" lanes. You have 40 seconds to complete this step. b) "Defeat the Wampa" by shooting the center sinkhole 3 times. After completing the first step the timer resets and you will have another 40 seconds to complete this second step.

2) Checkpoint 2. You must "Find Luke" by shooting the correct lane. All the ramp and orbit "Star Wars" lamps will be lit. Which lane contains Luke is random. So shoot each one until you find the correct one.

3) Checkpoint 3. "Destroy the imperial droid" by shooting the droid spinner 3 times. To reach the spinner shoot one of the flashing "Star Wars" lanes. You have about 60 seconds to complete this checkpoint.

Scene 2
1) Checkpoint 1. "Eliminate the Storm Trooper Attack" by hitting either the left or right STAR WARS target a total of 3 times. These targets are located just behind the storm trooper. The easiest way to complete this checkpoint is to shoot the Force target on the right side of the table and let the ball drop into the auto kicker. This kicker will always hit the left Star Wars target. You have 50 seconds to complete this checkpoint

2) Checkpoint 2. "Stop the AT-AT walker" by shooting the mini orbit around the walker a total of 4 times. Hit either the left or right entrance to the mini orbit, whichever is lit. The light will alternate as you complete shots. After your completing your 4th shot you must hit one final shot, the outer left orbit. You have about 60 seconds to complete this checkpoint.

Scene 3
1) Checkpoint 1. "Escape the Empire" by using the jump ramp to shoot your ball into the upper left sinkhole a total of 3 times. Avoid the TIE fighter and the asteroids (i.e. make a field goal between the asteroids). You have 60 seconds to complete this checkpoint.

2) Checkpoint 2. "Do or do not, there is no try." Follow Yoda's Teachings by shooting the lit lane a total of 6 times. The lit lane will alternate between the force lane and either the left or right center mini-loop. Pro-tip: you can use the autokicker by hitting the right FORCE lane to shoot the left mini-loop when it is lit. You have 30 seconds to complete this mission but each successful shot adds 10 seconds to your timer.

3) Checkpoint 3. "Shoot down the Mynocks" by hitting the 6 flashing lanes. Take note that if you wait too long between successful shots, your completed shots will slowly relight and you must complete them again. You have 60 seconds to complete this checkpoint.


Scene 4
1) Checkpoint 1. "Land the Falcon in Cloud City" by shooting the group of flashing lanes or center cellar hole 6 times. 3 lanes will flash and you must hit one of them to register a successful shot. After a successful shot, 3 different lanes or the center cellar hole will light up. Just keep shooting the flashing lights or sinkholes. You have 40 seconds to complete this checkpoint.

2) Checkpoint 2. "Shoot Darth Vader" 6 times by using the jump rump to hit him. You only have to hit the ball near him. He will use his force power to explode the ball and a new one will be ejected randomly from one of the sinkholes.

I think this is the easiest scene to complete and might be a good place to start for beginners.


Scene 5
1) Checkpoint 1. "Defend Han with Chewie." To complete this checkpoint you must shoot the right ramp which will eventually transfer the ball to middle right flipper. You must then make a cross shot with that flipper to hit the TIE fighter targets on the left side of the table. You must repeat this another 2 times. You have 50 seconds to complete this checkpoint.

2) Checkpoint 2 has two parts. "Cloud City Trouble." a) Tilt the light saber to the right 3 times to deflect the blaster 3 times. This is all timing. You must activate the right flipper at the right time to deflect the storm troopers blaster with the light saber. You have 30 seconds to complete this part. b) Hit the flashing Star Wars lanes to finish the fight. You have 30 seconds to shoot the left and right mini-loop and the center sinkhole.


Scene 6 and the Wizard Mode
You must complete scenes 1-5 before Scene 6 is available. This is the final duel against Darth Vader.

SCENE 6

1) Checkpoint 1. You are first taken to a mini-game where you must defend yourself against Vader's attack. Use the left flipper to block Vader's attack coming to your left side. Use the right flipper to block Vader's attack coming to your right side, and use the autolaunch button ot defend against overhead attacks coming down the center. You must block his attacks a total of 5 times. If you fail to block his attack 5 times you wil fail the checkpoint and must repeat it.

2) Checkpoint 2. "Hit the flashing lanes to evade the objects!" You will have 15 seconds to shoot one of three randomly lit lanes. Careful though, every few seconds the randomly lit lanes will alternate. After you successfully make a shot the 15 second timer will reset and repeat the above process 2 more times for a total of 3 successful shots.

3) Checkpoint 3 has 2 parts. a) The DMD will display a "Progress" meter that will start at 50%. To complete this part you must shoot either the left or right spinner to raise the progress to 100%. However, the progress meter will slowly decrease and if it reaches 0% you will fail the checkpoint and must repeat it. If you make 2-3 consecutive shots to either spinner you should complete this part. This is a pretty dangerous checkpoint because hitting the posts at the entrance to either the left or right mini orbit can lead to straight down the middle (SDTM) drains. Try to make aimed shots from a controlled/cradled position. b) Next, 3 random lanes (including the center sinkhole) will light up. You must hit all the lanes within 30 seconds after which the timer will reset and another random 3 lanes will light up. Again, hit all three lit lanes to complete Scene 6.


WIZARD MODE

The wizard mode for this table is called "Grand Finale." After completing Scene 6 you must shoot the ball into the upper left sinkhole, below the R2-D2 droids. The wizard mode is timed with an infinite ball save. I believe you start with 60 seconds and two jackpot lanes worth 5 million each. However, you can modify the wizard mode by earning YODA bonuses throughout the game. These bonuses can increase the wizard mode duration in 15 second increments, increase the number of jackpot lanes, increase the base value of each jackpot, or add special jackpot lanes. You can earn Yoda bonuses by shooting the right ramp when it is lowered and the Yoda light is flashing. Spell out Y-O-D-A to to earn a Yoda Bonus. You can select which bonus you want by using the flippers to change the bonus dispalyed in the DMD. Furthermore, the bonuses are cumulative. Each Yoda bonus you earn will applied to the wizard mode. After completing the wizard mode, the table will reset and you must complete all 6 scenes again to return to the wizard mode.


Final Thoughts...
Star Wars Episode V is the most complex table that Zen Studios has produced to date. It has a unique split screen DMD to show which modes are currently running. This is useful because this table allows you stack multiballs, Force modes, Scenes, and Hurry-ups. I did not include all these other modes because they are not necessary to reach the wizard mode. Nevertheless, a lot of these modes are really cool. There is a Vader Frenzy mode, a Jedi Training mini-game, sith and jedi multiballs, Empire/Tie fighter multiball, Cloud City multiball, a really cool Hyperspace multiball, 6 different FORCE modes, Empire bonuses, R2-D2 hurry up mode, etc... You will get many hours of enjoyment discovering and experiencing all these different modes. This table is a real gem and my favorite of the first Star Wars pack. I hope this guide is useful for those who needed a little help.

Thanks for the guide, I'm loving this table and for a pinball beginner like me this explains a lot about clearing those scenes. Also I learned a lot watching the vids, never occured to me to use tilt to bump the ball to the other flipper when it comes down on one. And here I thought I was awesome for sometimes tilt bumping the ball out of the gutterlane and into the field again.
