How to play on Veteran difficulty tips :)

This is a little guide that gives you some useful tips to play CoD 2 on Veteran difficulty easier.

Fight alone!

Your allies aren't very helpful and will barely follow you. So keep this in mind and fight alone.

Clearing buildings

When clearing a building use a SMG. Because they are fast firing and aren't cumbersome to aim or reload. I recommend you to use MP40 or PPSh. Also get some cover, so you are very hard to hit, because the enemy will not see you.

Smoke grenades help a lot

Because you get such a limited number of smoke grenades and you'll often have to move into open space where the enemy has a clear shot. Your going to have to decide when to use them or not. The best guide of deploying smoke grenades is when your commanding officer tells you to, or if your approaching a heavily armored vehicle.

Frag grenades

Frag grenades will often be in abundance, so don't worry about them being in short supply. Also enemies can throw these at you and since this isn't CoD 4 or CoD WaW, you can't throw these back.

Pick the right weapon

Some weapons are better than others in certain situations. For example, the Mosin Nagant, Kar98K, Lee Enfield are bolt action and require cycling after firing, so are inadvisable in CQB situations. Sub-machine guns are a better all around choice. The Thompson only has a 20 round magazine, but those 20 pack a punch. The British STEN is less powerful and less preferable, so swap it for something else when available. The MP40 behaves extraordinarily like an assault rifle and the ammunition is in vast supply, because it is used by the majority of Germans. Pistols are rarely ever seen but are a good choice for CQB situations. Light Machine guns such as the BAR or the Bren LMG are less preferable, partially because of the high recoil and the fact you'll never get to stay in the open long enough to fire it. The MP44 is a good all around weapon, as it is an assault rifle. There are also semiautomatic rifles such as the Gewher43, the M1 Garand, which are good substitutes for rifles such as the Kar98k because they self-load their ammunition.

Sinper rifles

Use them whenever you get one. These weapons are useful to eliminate large amount of enemies without them seeing you. But remember, use them at long distances!

Patience is key in many situations

This is probably one of the most frustrating difficulties of any game. If you aren't careful you'll find yourself breaking your own mouse and keyboard (or controller) without conscious thought. Be very patient!

Thank you so much for posting these! At least I'll have a better idea on how to tackle these missions, now! (I got stuck on Pointe du Hoc.) I wish this game wasn't so stingy with its checkpoints, though.

Sometimes have to advance upon the enemy as some points they spawn endlessly until you pass a certain point.

MP40 is really good if you use lots of ammo. I always max its ammo because so many germans use it

as someone who has beaten cod2 veteran 3 times (once on the 360, once on steam, once on series s and like 3/4 of the way through on steam after I lost my saves with my old PC, I do need to finish that up on this PC) this is mostly good, I do not agree with the weapon choice, the BAR is amazing, yes it has terrible recoil but it is also a 2 shot kill at nearly any distance, also the MP40 is not that good from my experience, also I don't use smoke much because the AI seems to ignore it like half the time and the cloud it generates is tiny, one last thing, you can't throw back grenades but for some reason your AI teammates can... they are still nearly useless...
