How to talk to The Guide

So there's this guy that spawns in your world with you, and he's The Guide. He wants to help you survive, but how can he help you if you can't talk to him? That's what this guide is all about.

Introduction

So you want to talk to the guide?
The guide is a really helpful person. He tells you what to do next if you're stuck, and he tells you how to craft things.
The problem is, how can he help you if you don't even know how to talk to him?
It's really hard, but this guide will help you get the steps mastered. You'll be able to talk to the guide at any time after reading this!

Step 1

So to talk to the guide, we have to prove that we're cool enough to talk to him. How do we do that?
Well the first step is to go to the underworld.


The question is, how do you get there?

Step 1.1

First, you have to go find the dungeon, which will either be on the left or the right of your world. Then, you have to kill the Dungeon Guardian with a Copper Shortsword. Any other weapon won't work, and you won't get the item you need if you use anything else. Be careful not to cheat though, because the game detects when you're cheating and doesn't give you the item.


Once you successfully kill the Dungeon Guardian, he has a 1 in 5000 chance (0.020% chance) to drop a Super Bone Key instead of a regular one. THIS TOOK ME 3 YEARS TO GET HELP I'M GOING INSAN-



Moving on....
The Super Bone Key is the item that unlocks all of the hidden secrets. Once you pick it up, the message "You've done a terrible thing..." shows up. This is a good message, because that means new things are now unlocked. I will tell you more about what it means later.

Step 1.2

Now that you've gotten the Super Bone Key, you need to make a new world called "net" and make it medium sized with a crimson. This is an important step, so make sure you don't miss it!

Step 1.3

Now, you have to do something that you never thought you would do... (or maybe you did)

Join a cult.

Put on the cult uniform and go perform the ritual.
ALL HAIL THE FLOATY ROUND THING

Once you have completed the ritual, go rouge and attack the other cultists, then let them kill you.


Congrats! you are now in the underworld! Now, let's go to step 2.

Step 2

Now that you're in The Underworld, what do you do from here?

The most important thing to remember is that if you die, you'll lose your character forever, even if it's not hardcore. Your character has temporarily switched to Super Hardcore mode, which means that when the character file is deleted, it won't even go to the trash bin on your computer, it'll just disappear. Also, in Super Hardcore mode, if you die, you die in real life.

Make sure not to take off the cult uniform, because if you do, then it will mess everything up and you'll have to do everything again.

Step 2.1

Now, you're going to want to change the computer's date to Halloween, like in this image here.


Now, keep killing enemies until you get a goodie bag.


Open it and you have a random chance to get Halloween items. The item you're going to want to get is rotten eggs.



999 of them, to be exact.

Step 2.2

Now that you have all 999 of your rotten eggs, the next thing you want to do is throw all of your items in lava (except for the rotten eggs, of course.) However, you are allowed to keep your grappling hook, because you'll need that to get around.

You have to do this because it's a sacrifice to the lava gods. If there's an item that doesn't burn, the lava gods are being nice and letting you keep it (or they're just trying to lure you into the lava... It could be either one)

Step 2.3

Go as far as you possibly can to the right, and reach the edge of the world. Once you're here, you want to wait 1 hour without dying, but make sure not to use your rotten eggs yet. It may be hard to survive an hour with only a grappling hook in hell, but if you manage to successfully stay for 1 hour...
Jump in the lava. It may sound dumb, but this is the way to do it.


Once you respawn, you'll have all of your stuff back! Your character is also back to the mode you set instead of Super Hardcore mode.

Step 2.4 - Hardermode

When you respawn, you may notice this message that shows up once you die...

What this means is that you've activated hardermode. Hardermode is a secret feature that's not fully implemented in the game yet, and the steps you just did were a secret developer trick to access hardermode for debugging.

Now that you're in hardermode, what can you do? Well, there's not that much to do in hardermode yet, since it's still being worked on. Since it's not really well documented because of it being so secret, I don't know much about it, but I do know one important thing you need to do...

Step 3

So now that you're in hardermode, you can go higher into space. The sky limit has been increased and you can find extra stuff there, like asteroids, planets, etc.
The question is, what do we do here?
(Disclaimer: I can't provide images for some things because this is secret stuff the developers don't want you to know and I don't want to be sued)

Step 3.1

In space, you should be able to go high enough to find an asteroid belt. Once you find the asteroid belt, you can mine into it and get a new type of ore. Since hardermode is still being developed, it doesn't have a name yet, and is just named "ore" as a placeholder. I'll just call it asteroid ore for now.

Once you get some asteroid ore, you need to go back and turn it into "bar" (again, I'll call it space bar) to make some items.

First, you're going to want to craft an air tank accessory so you don't suffocate in space, because you can only last a minute without it. Then, you'll want to craft a space pickaxe so you can mine more things.

Once you crafted the air tank, you can last 10 minutes in space now. You should have enough time to find an abandoned spaceship, because you can find a chest there that contains something you might need. This is where you use all 999 of your rotten eggs to unlock the chest (the reason you got them pre-hardermode is because there is a glitch where you can't get them from goodie bags in hardermode, and the reason you need 999 is also because of a glitch. Normally, you have to throw 5 projectiles at it, but currently only this works.), which contains some basic space survival supplies, but the thing you want in this chest is an item called "suspicious looking diamond" which is planned to summon a boss, but since it's not implemented yet, it acts like a treasure bag and drops the boss loot, which are Souls of Plight, Corrupt/Crimtane Gemstones, Hallowed Gemstones, and a Gemstone Gun (which uses gems such as sapphires and emeralds for ammo).


These are the Hallowed, Crimtane, and Corrupt gemstones.
Now that you have those materials...

Step 3.2 - Crafting Materials

Corrupt/Crimtane gemstones and hallowed gemstones aren't as useless as normal gemstones, because they can be used to craft various things, but we're focusing on one item right now, which is the rainbow bars, which is the first crafting material we need. You'll need to craft 20 of them.

The second is in the dungeon, which has a secret locked area that you can only access with the Super Bone Key. when you go in, there will be really strong monsters. The monsters have a small chance of dropping magic essence which is the second crafting material. You need 15 of them, which means you might need to grind.

The third and final crafting material is gotten by going back to The Underworld, which is easier to get to this time. You can craft a special item with a magic mirror and some space bars that allow you to teleport there instead of doing all of the steps again.

Once you get there, you will meet the lava gods, which reward you with the final crafting material in return for throwing all of your items in the lava.
The lava gods will give you demon powers contained in a crystal ball, which is the final crafting material.

Step 3.3

You'll need to grab your copper shortsword. Bring it to the hallow and find lava underground. Once you find the lava, throw all of the materials into it, as well as your copper shortsword. Once you do that...

Step 4

This is it... you finally have the true copper shortsword. Now, all you have to do is prove to the Guide that you're cool enough to talk to by showing off with your new weapon, by fighting all of the bosses at once.

Done! Ok, Guide, am I cool enough to talk to yet?

GET A GUIDE VOODOO DOLL FROM A VOODOO DEMON IN THE UNDERWORLD

GRAB THE NEAREST WEAPON

STEP 5.3

KILL HIM
