Achievements Guide
By Haravikk
This is a guide to obtaining every achievement in Rayon Riddles: Rise of the Goblin King, so naturally it will contain a lot of spoilers, you have been warned!

This game has a total of 29 achievements on Steam; eight are hidden but these are all obtained by completing levels.

Level achievements are listed at the end, and structured as a mini-walkthrough; most puzzles are fairly intuitive in this game, and with multiple options for some I encourage you to experiment first, and only look for my solution if you get stuck. Otherwise achievements are in alphabetic order, use the headings to quickly skip to the one(s) you're stuck on. Have fun!

Thanks

A Kingdom For a Goblin
Find the sacred sword
On level 9 (Dismal Swamp), proceed towards the large gate and turn left about halfway, at the end of this path is a rock with a sword (Machete) in it, remove it using Tech or Tiny.
And Again
Watch your step
Fall over a tripwire at least six times.
A Tripwire is craftable on level 2 (Prison Camp), or found on level 9 (Dismal Swamp).
Archaeologist
Come in like a wrecking ball
On level 4 (Canyon) cross the bridge and destroy all of the ruined walls using Heavy's special ability.

It isn't necessary to get them all on a single attempt, each wall simply needs to be destroyed at least once across all playthroughs.
by the Horns
Two unstoppable forces
Knock out a Cow using Heavy's special ability. This can easily be done on level 3 (Orc Camp) or level 5 (Big Gate) by locating a Cow at the end of the level, approaching from the side and then activating Heavy's ability to hit it.

If you're aiming to get this quickly and feeling brave, then at the start of level 5 is a Cow in a fenced off area running rapidly in circles; timing is crucial to knock this one out without dying!
Crafting Genius
Find all blueprints
Pickup blueprints, even if you don't need them. The following blueprints are easy to miss:
  • Level 2 (Prison Camp): The Lighter blueprint can be found inside a tent to the right of the exit gate (before picking up King's crown for him).
  • Level 3 (Orc Camp): The Biotech blueprint (required for the Lamarck achievement) can be found from the level entrance by turning right from the Cow field and following the trees round past the Fishing Rods to find the blueprint.
  • Level 7 (The Stronghold): The butcher's blueprint (to turn a Cow into Ham somehow) can be found in the building with a crafting table. You don't actually need it for the level at all.
Darwin Award
Die several times and repeat
Die. A lot. I'm unsure of exact numbers, but it's somewhere between 30-50 total. You will unlock this achievement before getting the Lemmings achievement (99 deaths).

You can grind deaths most easily on level 4 (Canyon) by crossing the bridge and heading down to the Fishing Rod near one of the mine cart stops. Step off into the river from here and you should resurrect close to the edge, allowing you to hold forwards and just keep resurrecting until you unlock the achievement(s).
GobStar
Play some catchy free jazz tunes
This achievement appears to be largely broken, but it is still obtainable. On level 8 (The Palace) gain access to the kitchen then send Tech to get the accordian (Noel's Remains) from downstairs and bring it to the kitchen's crafting table. Have him stand right in front of the table, facing it then switch to another character. After a while (possibly random) the achievement should unlock, despite no obvious reason why.

It is likely an idle animation was supposed to play with music, but I wasn't able to actually see/hear it, despite being in the same room. You can refer to this segment of Kyle Bosman's playthrough video to see what I mean: Kyle Finishes Rayon Riddles
Goblin x Goblin x Goblin (Goblin3/Goblin Cubed)
Bring the furnace the resource it deseres [sic] and not what it needs
On level 1 (Tech's Cave) escape the starting cell and go to the top of the furnace and walk into it, don't resurrect until the cutscene is complete and achievement unlocked.
HoboGobo
Don't fish for the fish, fish for yourself
Catch at least five boots (Das Boot) using various Fishing Rods. The best place to start is level 3 (Orc Camp), to the right of the Cow field are two Fishing Rods, after obtaining three fish they should provide only boots until you get the achievement. If they run out, restart the level and continue.
Heavy Meal
Cook A Yummy Meal
Cook a Pile O' Food with Heavy. This is required on level 5 (Big Gate) to distract the guards; simply put any two food items onto the Fireplace in the kitchen to cook a Pile O' Food. The most disgusting combination I was able to use was a Das Boot and Flour.
Keep it Flowing Cowboy
Pour A Drink For Champs
On level 7 (The Stronghold) get to the bar, locate the Funnel in the tent nearby and place it into the huge barrel to the right of the bar. With Heavy, get a barrel of Booze from the vending machine and pour it into the funnel. The Orc captain will drop his key.

Use key to open the explosives tent, place the fuzzy fuses (hay bales), powder keg, fireworks and explosives in highlighted locations. An Orc will crawl towards a cart next to a Campfire and pass out.

Now get Ham (there is one near the start of the level, or you can butcher a poor Cow for it with the right blueprint) and place it on the Campfire (the placement for this is tricky). The Orc will wake up and throw up, creating a Bucket of Goo. Combine with Booze at a crafting table to create the poisoned drink and pour this into the funnel to unlock the achievement.
Lamarck
Create a new species
On level 3 (Orc Camp), obtain the Biotech blueprint which can be found from the level entrance by turning right from the Cow field and following the trees round past the Fishing Rods, the blueprint is tucked in the corner near the trees.

Once obtained, get a fish from the nearby fishing rod, and leave it near the crafting table. You can obtain a saw in the locked tent once you have freed Heavy, combine the two to create your new species and unlock this achievement.
Lemminge (Lemmings)
Live, die, resurrect, repeat
Die a total of 99 times across all playthroughs. It is recommended to aim for this achievement last, as you will likely die a number of times while trying to gain other achievements anyway.

You can grind deaths most easily on level 4 (Canyon) by crossing the bridge and heading down to the Fishing Rod near one of the mine cart stops. Step off into the river from here and you should resurrect close to the edge, allowing you to hold forwards and just keep resurrecting until you unlock the achievement. If you haven't already got it, you will also get the Darwin Award achievement at roughly the half-way point.
Lullaby
Play a calm tune
On level 5 (Big Gate), open the big gate, causing the Orc captain to go to his quarters to sleep. Sneak in and near the foot of the bed is a Music Box, activate it.
PebbleHenge
Honor Thy Ancestors
On level 2 (Prison Camp) clear the Orc from the bridge by picking up the Enormous Pebble that is holding the huge boulder in place. Take the pebble into the camp and turn left, look for a flat rock named "Stonehenge" near to the chicken pen and place the pebble. Place a total of 12 to unlock this achievement.

There are a number of pebbles at the start of the level, easily found with highlight (Tab), there are more near King's cell, and a few extras once he is freed (after smashing the boulder in his path).

This achievement may not unlock on the first attempt due to some kind of counting error, however the counter does not reset, so simply restart the level, release the boulder and resume placing pebbles; after one or two more are placed you should get the achievement.
Russian Roulette
Try the resurrection spell
You probably already have this, but if not, get any of your characters killed and then resurrect them a total of 10 times across all playthroughs.
Same procedure as every year james
This One is Classy
Trip over every bear skin rug. There is one on level 5 (Big Gate) that is pretty much unavoidable when sneaking into the sleeping Orc captain's quarters. There is also another one on level 8 (The Palace) in the downstairs area.
Sixth Treasure King
Add some gold to the treasure
On level 4 (Canyon) head to the wooden platform where the rope enables crossing over the river (do not cross yet), pickup the Saw here. Head down past the Orc trader's shop and find the ramp down to the river's edge, with a chest named "Junk Dreams".

Use the Saw on the Platform to dump the chest into the river. Now cross the river and head to the mine cart and send it to the stop next to the Fishing Rod. Use the Fishing Rod to raise the chest onto the mine cart (you may get a Das Boot on the first attempt, ignore it). Move the cart to the next stop and use the Winch to dump the chest beside the track.

Produce a bucket of gold as normal (take gold item onto bridge to get grabbed by Magpie, use rune to open forge, take bucket, wood and blueprint to forge to fix bucket, light forge, place bucket, put gold nugget in to produce bucket of gold). Instead of using the gold to coat a lead weight, take it back to the chest and pour it over the chest to unlock this achievement (and a unique cutscene).
Triple Kill
Get killed, get killed and then get killed again
Have all three playable characters (Heavy, Tech and Tiny) dead at the same time. This can easily be done on Level 9 (Dismal Swamp) by moving into the swamp water, and instead of resurrecting switch to another character and repeat until all three are dead.

If you are playing on a console and cannot switch after a character has died, you can instead walk up to any group of tentacles and switch to another character, leaving the first character to die. Repeat this process for at least two characters, then get the third killed however you please.
Try Hard
Don't get killed
Complete any level (except level 1) without being killed. Easiest level to do this is level 2 (Prison Camp) as it's short and easy to repeat. Only one level (except the first) is required for this achievement, don't try and do all of them like I did!

  • Grab a torch or lighter and light Furnace (second green light).
  • Get gold nugget from Magpie's nest and place into furnace to produce bucket of gold.
  • Get gold-coated lead blueprint, combine lead and bucket of gold and carry onto bridge to neutralise Magpie, take any gold item to giant
    • OR locate saw on wooden platform near start, take down ramp (past trader's shack), use on Platform holding "Junk Dreams", cross river and move mine cart to Fishing Rod, use Fishing Rod to retrieve chest, move mine cart and use Winch, use bucket of gold on chest to neutralise both Magpie and Giant (Sixth Treasure King).

5. Papers Please (Big Gate)
Complete Level 5 (Big Gate)
  • Open gate to pen with a circling bull, dodge past it with careful timing
    • OR if you're brave, use Heavy's special ability to knock it unconscious (also requires careful timing).
Retrieve gold and take to Orc trader's shack to get Orc armour.
  • As Heavy, wear the armour and head to the right of the gate to activate spyhole, once door is opened head inside.

Interact as Heavy to control catapult (left/right to aim, interact again to fire), aim for top of wall and fire.
  • Head to side of wall with stairs, get Rope Ladder blueprint from cage before going down. Get ladder next to bookshelves and place on crafting table. Head down long corridor to room with weighted ropes, use Saw to cut rope, take to crafting table to make Rope Ladder.
  • Take Rope Ladder to spot on wall to lower, switch to Heavy and leave catapult with discard key (right click), head for rope ladder and climb it.
  • As Heavy, head inside wall, at corridor turn left and head down to kitchen, find any two food items and put onto Fireplace to cook Pile O' Food to distract Orcs.
  • Switch to Tech and throw both levers on top of wall to partially open door.
  • Head inside wall and go to end of long corridor to find mechanism destroyed, get blueprint for See-saw, take spring to crafting table, combine with plank to create see-saw and return to machine room using Heavy. Use see saw (as Heavy) to open door and let Orc Captain inside.

  • Take scroll as Heavy to Orc in shack to open gate and exit.
6. Reunited (Dwarf Mine)
Complete Level 6 (Dwarf Mine)
This is probably the hardest level to navigate, as it's easy to get turned around with lots of twisting, branching corridors, and easy to miss areas.
  • Use pump controls to access left hand side and retrieve acordian (Noel's Remains), use to repair broken pipe on pump.
  • Use controls to drain all remaining water, use lever to open door.
  • Do the following in any order:
    • Get Incredibly Boring Text, give to Troll with glasses to put him to sleep. Take glasses to room with large statue head with tables. Add glasses to statue, add moustache from wall, locate red nose (lower level) and add to reveal rune to place onto vault door.
    • Just outside the statue head room are some bookshelves, interact to open trap room, retrieve rune, wait for traps to break then take rune to vault door.
    • In room with crystals, use pick to smash all crystals, use Heavy to break rear wall, after cutscene he will have a rune to put on door.
    • Locate dwarf forge, take different crystal colours and rune template (found in small room with red nose and crossbow blueprint) and combine to make rune, add to vault door.
    • Get crossbow blueprint (small room with red nose and rune template), take to forge to combine with yarn to make crossbow. Take to room with three statues, give to crossbowman, give spear to spearman, and shield to warrior to reveal rune, add to vault door.
    • NOTE: When placing the final rune on the vault door you will regain control the moment the rune is in position, move away before the door opens to avoid death.
  • Use key to open padlocked door. Inside find another vault door with piles of runes, simply locate one of each and place in vault door (moving away to avoid death).
  • Use Tiny with any Hole (pipe) to move between areas, use special ability to stealth past Orcs to find next Hole until you find the lever to reopen the closed door and escape.
7. Freeze! (The Stronghold)
Complete Level 7 (The Stronghold)
  • Use crowbar to open pipe, send Tiny through and sneak round to door lever to let the others inside. Tiny will take position on a seesaw.
  • Head past the bar to a small tent, get the blueprint for poisoned booze, get funnel and place in giant barrel to right of bar. As Heavy get Booze from vending machine (to left of bar) and pour into funnel to have the Orc captain drop his key.
  • Retrieve key and use to unlock fireworks storage. Place fuzzy fuses (hay bales), fireworks, powder keg and explosives at the indicated locations. An Orc will crawl towards a cart near a campfire.
  • Retrieve Ham (there is one near level start) to wake passed out Orc at campfire (prompt to do so is tricky), causing him to throw up.
  • Get Bucket of Goo and take to crafting table, get blueprint for butchering Cows, combine goo and Booze to create poisoned Booze, pour into funnel to trigger Tech's plan!
  • As Tiny, open the gate to let the others inside.
  • Use Heavy to retrieve gear from workshop, and add to big door (prompt to do so is tricky).
  • Advance King to the big gate to gain blueprint for huge key. Components are all nearby, combine at crafting table, use key on lock and pull lever.
8. Hangover (The Palace)
Complete Level 8 (The Palace)
  • Use Heavy to break the back wall of his cell, use Crowbar to open pipe.
  • Use Tiny to climb through pipe into Heavy's cell, then into sewer pipe to escape. Use Tiny's Stealth ability to avoid Orcs and return to prison building (straight across courtyard), go downstairs and pull lever to release the others.
  • Move everyone inside the Palace.
  • As Heavy, wear the Orc armour from the armoury room, then enter the guarded room near the entrance to retrieve the key to the workshop (near the spiral stairs).
  • Retrieve blueprint for grinder, add mixer from table to crafting table, retrieve grinding disk from armoury as Heavy and combine to make grinder, use on Dwarf's chains to free him.
  • Retrieve blueprint for Banana Bomb, get powder barrel, rope (in workshop) and banana (in guarded room, so use Heavy) combine to make Banana Bomb.
  • Climb spiral stairs and then go up stairs to the right to place Banana Bomb and distract the guards. Look inside guarded upstairs room to see King then head for kitchen (far right).
  • Use heavy to cook two meals, one with a rubber chicken and cheese for the Orc chief, one with any two food ingredients for King. Carry as Heavy into room with king and place to start contest.
  • Get dynamite from armoury and combine with Booze to make strong drink for Orc chief, take through to contest room, then place a regular Booze barrel for King to continue contest.
  • Go downstairs to library, place Picture Book on Campfire, light with Lighter then place Explosives on top to rescue King and escape.
9. Rise of the Goblin King (Dismal Swamp)
Complete Level 9 (Dismal Swamp)
  • As Tiny, head left to find a path with tentacle creatures. These can be avoided by monitoring their pattern; after they perform one small attack followed by two rapid attacks, you can dash past. This is easier if you get as close as possible without risking being hit.
  • At T-intersection turn left, avoiding tentacles at corner.
  • Follow path and head right, then left, you should find a dead Dwarf with a Force Shield next to him, take this and head past the purple tentacles, which are now harmless.
  • Head into the ruined tower, taking care not to fall through any gaps into the swamp. It is best to drop the shield near the bottom of the ramp, then proceed up to pull lever and retrieve the shield on the way back down, otherwise it is difficult to pick back up. With the shield you can safely ignore the tentacles and return to King.
  • As Tech take to the right path, you will come to some stepping stones, which you must aim at and interact with to cross. Some of these are unstable, if one starts shaking, jump to the next as quickly as possible! See the screenshot for the safe path across.
  • On the other side, continue and turn right, get a saw fish and use it to cut the rope, take the rope, fish, plank, and shield to repair the bridge to continue to the tower and throw the lever. Switch to another character to proceed, leaving Tech where he is for now (this avoids the need to return over the stepping stones).
  • As Heavy, head down towards the large gate until you see a path to the left, head down it towards a coil of rope and get trapped.
  • As Tiny, take the path around Heavy and retrieve the Machete from the rock at the end of the path, return to Heavy and smash the cage to get a plank of wood. Place this near the tower to create a see saw, have Tiny sit on it, and Heavy launch him into the tower to pull the final lever.
  • Exit the tower and use the Machete to clear the thorny bushes from King's path.
  • Advance King past the big gate, and throw the lever to open the mine entrance and go inside, where you'll find your friend the Dwarf, and a locked vault door.
  • Down a side passage you'll find the first rune, put this onto the vault door.
  • Exit the mine for now and locate the crowbar to open the pipe and send Tiny inside for a key, take it to the chest near the armoury building to get another rune.
  • As Tech, head through the "Shadow Door" near the big gate, you will be on a small island where you'll find a Treasure Map by using the Fishing Rod, this will reveal an X in a familiar spot (past the stepping stones, my favourite).
  • Drop the map and head back to the workshop to get the blueprint for a spade, you will need a spear and a shield, which you find in the shallow water where you opened the chest. Create your spade and head back to the stepping stones, cross them again (hope you memorised the safe route!) and follow the path until you find the branch to your right, dig up the spot marked X to find another rune.
  • Returning with the rune you will need to cross the stones again, remembering you're going in reverse this time. If you don't mind dying it doesn't matter if you screw up, as you should resurrect back on the main path.
  • Return to the others and place the final rune to open the vault, but king is afraid of the dark! Get the blueprint for a modified helmet, find a miner's helmet and a torch, and combine them at the crafting table and return with it to King.

Congratulations, you've now completed Rayon Riddles: Rise of the Goblin King!

Need help on level 4, specifically with:
Retrieve Tapestry from workshop and place on bridge to enable King to cross

I brought tapestry, wooden planks and a needle, but I can't interract with a bridge with anything. How to fix it?

Thanks for the note @Azatoth! I've added this option to the Triple Kill achievement.
Azatoth May 9, 2020 @ 9:47pm
I could not switch characters after they died (using gamepad) until i resurrected them.
I still managed to get Triple Kill on level 9 by running under a tentacle and switching before getting killed.
