Running an online server from PC, iOS, or Android

A brief guide on setting up and online (i.e. not LAN) server for Artemis using either a PC, an iOS device, or an Android device.

The Guide

It is fairly straightforward to use a PC or tablet (or phone) to run Artemis for online play (i.e. not on LAN). You should be able to get a server up and running in minutes.

If you want to run the server from your tablet / phone or PC, you will need to forward port 2010 (I forwarded on both UDP and TCP) on your router – if you’re not sure how to do this, then Google the manufacturer and model of your router and there will be a guide online somewhere.

You will then need to search “What's my IP” using your browser of choice to discover the visible IP address of the server machine – this will be the address to send to those who want to play on your server.

If you are running the server from a PC with a Steam install of Artemis, then you are good to go.

If you are running the server via the iOS or Android route there is one small hurdle that must be overcome in order for this to work – basically you have to “roll back” the version of Artemis on the client PCs to that which matches the tablet version.

As of writing this guide (04th July 2018) the current iOS / Android version of the game is 2.40. There is a .exe file to download from the developers to let you do this:

For this to work correctly, you must install from the downloaded .exe file to where you have Artemis installed via Steam (should be similar to the following: Steam\steamapps\common\Artemis), it is probably best to hang onto the file that you download as Steam will update the base game on your PC sooner or later.
