Beginner's Guide for Total War: Warhammer

Want to know how to counter or use each unit type? Ever wondered what each damage type in the game did? What about how spells and power points work? This guide explains it all! Directed at both new and old players, both of whom I'm sure will find the information in this guide enlightening.

Welcome to the guide!

I'm sure you've come here bearing many questions. While I can't answer all of them, I will attempt to explain the most basic features of Total War: Warhammer. If you want to be a good commander, whether in the singleplayer or multiplayer, whether during a campaign or in quick battles, this is all information you should know if you want to win!

Chapter 1: Unit Types & Counters

The game contains a large number of different unit types. Each of these has its own strengths and weaknesses, and understanding these is key to using your army to your full advantage. Not only that, but each unit type has its own counters. These you should memorize, as you won't have time to look them up during a battle!

Chapter 2: Damage Types

I'm sure you've all seen the icons ingame about the different damage types, but the game does an admittedly poor job at explaining how they work. That's what this chapter is for! It explains how damage types work and how they interact with resistances and armor, as well as how they are combined on a unit that has several damage types.

Chapter 3: Spells & Power Points

Spells are a new and extremely powerful addition to the Total War games in Warhammer, and understanding how they work can make all the difference between winning and losing. Also includes how Power Points work.

Chapter 4: Leadership

Wanna know how to stop your units from running out of combat like total wussies? To do that, you must understand how leadership works! This chapter is dedicated to that.

Chapter 5: Fatigue

Units don't just lose health as they fight, they also become fatigued! Fatigue can have dramatic consequences on your units, so understanding how it works can be vital in winning battles!

Just watched through this - its is pretty decent.

For a quick audio-visual guide for a newcomer it is pretty good. I would suggest looking at his in combination with something like:

Admittedly that guide is for Warhammer 1 but most of the basics remain very similar although certain strategies may have changed.
