Friendship with villagers in Stardew Valley
Friendship in Stardew Valley
Whilst playing Stardew Valley, you will build friendships with the villagers in town. You will notice that they all have 'hearts' which will indicate their level of friendship with you as you move through the game. Friendship builds as you speak to the people every day and/or give them their favourite gifts (which there are other great guides for), as well as attending each villager's heart events. Friendship can decay in a few ways if you are not at max 'hearts' with them, (whether that be 10, or 8 for those who are romancable). Although minor, not speaking to them everyday will take away friendship points; then there are things like giving them a gift they don't like, rummaging through rubbish bins (if they see you), and shooting them with a slingshot that are slightly more damaging with friendship points.

How do I get all Villagers to 10 Hearts?
The next thing you will notice is that some villagers have 10 'hearts', whilst others only have eight 'hearts'. Why is this? Well this is because those with eight 'hearts' are bachelors and bachelorettes that are available for marriage in game. Yes, you are able to same-sex marry!!!
Then I asked myself the question, "How can I get ALL my villagers to a 10 heart friendship level and only marry one person without having any consequences?"
It turns out this is indeed possible!
When you get to an eight 'heart' friendship level with any bachelor or bachelorette, a boquet will become available at Pierre's general Store for purchase. This item is able to be given to ALL bachelors and bachelorettes without consequence BEFORE marriage. This unlocks the last two 'hearts', and thus you are able to continue giving them their favourite gifts until they are at a full 10 'hearts'; then being able to choose the one you want to marry.
UPDATE: I have been informed that having a full 10 'hearts' with every bachelor/bachelorette is no longer possible- You are indeed able to give more than one bachelor/bachelorette a boquet, but this will trigger an event where they will break up with you and the last two 'hearts' will again be shaded out. ***Except if you have a 'Rabbit's foot' in your inventory thanks XxSupDawgxX in the comments

When you are ready to marry, you need to give them a 'Mermaid's Pendant' which you obtain from the 'Old Mariner' for 5000g. He is found over the bridge on the beach during a rainy day

**Important Note: In reference to friendship decay in the first paragraph, you will be glad to know that if you are at an eight heart level with a villager whos last two hearts are shaded out (bachelor/bachelorette), your friendship with them cannot decay beyond reaching this heart level with them.
Having Children in Stardew Valley
Having Children in Stardew Valley
After marriage in Stardew Valley, it is possible to have children with your spouse whether in an opposite-sex or same-sex relationship. Though there are some minor differences that will be explained below, you can have a maximum of two children (one boy and one girl) that will stop growing once they reach their toddler stage.
**Your spouse will not ask to have a second child while the first one is still in the crib. The crib must be free

Requirements in order to have the chance to have your spouse ask you to have children
  • You must have upgraded your farmhouse twice, so that you have a room with a baby's crib and two single beds
  • You must also maintain at least a 10 heart relationship with your spouse (as when you are married, your friendship 'hearts' can decay)
  • You must be married for at least seven days on top of the first two requirements

Opposite-Sex Couples
If the above requirements are met and have also been married for at least seven days, there becomes around about a 5% chance that your spouse will ask you if you would like to have a child. You can answer 'yes', in which case the female will become pregnant and a baby will be born after 14 days (if you are playing as a female character, this does not affect your game play); and if you answer 'not now', there will continue to be about a 5% chance each night proceeding, that your spouse might ask you if you want to have a child.

Same-Sex Couples
The same applies for same-sex couples as well. If the above requirements are met, and the couple have been married for at least seven days, there will be about a 5% chance your spouse will ask if you want to have a child; the only difference being that they will ask you if you want to adopt. Again, the time frame will be 14 days from when you agree on the adoption, to when your child arrives. During this time your spouse will tell you they have filed papers for adoption.

**Important Note: It is said to be careful not to complete any bundles for the Community Centre or JojoaMart the night before the baby is due, as this could cause the event to be skipped completely.
