Overview
This guide will show you everything you need to know about all the tools and items you will use in your criminal career. Each item has their own purpose and once you know how to utilize them, you will get a lot of milage out of your tools! This guide will cover what each item does, how to unlock them, and the best ways you can get use out of them.
Deployable Items
Deployable items are equipment that you can use whenever you need them. By default, deployable items are used with the "G" button. Most of the items can only be placed on a flat surface and not on certain level objects or geometry. Once you place an item down, it's stuck there and cannot be moved. Think carefully on when and where you want to deploy your items. If an item has been deployed and that player leaves the game, their items are removed from the game to prevent people from deploying supplies, leaving, and then coming back to keep making more.

Ammo Bag
Unlocked at: Assault class level 2
Upgrades: Amount increase 1 (level 10), Amount increase 2 (level 19), Amount increase 3 (level 30)

The Ammo Bag is a very important item that every crew should have at least one of. While cops do drop ammo when killed, the ammo they drop will never give back everything you spent unless you are good with headshots. Ammo Bags will fully restore your ammo supply for all of your guns and it takes about 5 seconds to fully interact with the bag. However, the Ammo Bag is not infinite and it will vanish after several uses, so use the item wisely! Ammo Bag upgrades will increase the amount of ammo the bag can hold, allowing you to get more milage out of it. Ammo Bags have about 4 uses when it's first unlocked and will reach 10 uses with the maximum upgrades. The Assault class uses the Ammo Bag and its upgrades.

Tips:
  • To get the most out of your Ammo Bag, wait until your ammo reserves for all your guns is mostly empty. This will allow you to get more ammo back when you need it rather than wasting the supplies in the bag just to refill a gun that only used 1/4th of its reserves.
  • You have to think about where to place the Ammo Bag. The basic rule of thumb for placing Ammo Bags is to put them behind cover, such as a desk or a wall. Putting bags out in the open is a terrible idea since you will force your crew to expose themselves just to get more ammo.
  • Try to rely on making headshots on cops so you can save your bullets and the Ammo Bag.

Doctor Bag
Unlocked at: Support level 5
Upgrades: Amount increase 1 (level 11), Amount increase 2 (level 19), Amount increase 3 (33)

Doctor Bags are an extremely critical item that no crew should ever be without. Doctor Bags fully restore your health and it also resets the number of times you can be downed before bleeding out completely. Since the Doctor Bag is the only way you can recover health in the middle of a heist, you will need the bag to stay alive. Like the Ammo Bag, the Doctor Bag has limited amount of uses, but it can be boosted with upgrades. You will only get about 3 uses at first, but with the maximum upgrades, you can get up to 5 uses. It will also take about 5 seconds to fully interact with the item. The Support class uses the Doctor Bag, along with its upgrades.

Tips:
  • Doctor Bags are limited, so when is the best time to use one? If your health is in the red, it's usually a good idea to heal up. If you are skilled enough, you can prolong the use of the Doctor Bag by waiting until you are downed once or twice and then use it. Since healing resets how often you can be taken down, you will want to avoid using the Doctor Bag as long as you can.
  • Like the Ammo Bag before it, Doctor Bags need to be placed behind cover so players can heal in safety.
  • It is recommended that at least 2 players bring a Doctor Bag when playing on high difficulties.

Trip Mines
Unlocked at: Sharpshooter level 4
Upgrades: Damage increase 1 (level 6), Amount increase 1 (level 14), Amount increase 2 (level 22), Amount increase 3 (level 29), Damage increase 2 (level 32), Amount increase 4 (level 36), Amount increase 5 (level 42), Amount increase 6 (level 47)

Trip Mines are an offensive oriented item that specializes in ambushes and traps. A Trip Mine can be planted almost anywhere, including walls and ceilings. Once placed, the Trip Mine activates. You can turn a Trip Mine on or off by going near it and pressing the action key. Any enemy that crosses the laser will make the explosive go off and instantly kill any enemy caught in the blast. Luckily, a Trip Mine won't go off if a player crosses the laser. Shooting a Trip Mine will make it explode and you can use this to your advantage by luring enemies to a deactivated Trip Mine so you can take them all out in one shot. Strategic planting of the Trip Mines can make some heists easier to go through. The Sharpshooter class uses Trip Mines and the upgrades for them.

Tips:
  • Trip Mines are best used in areas that you know most enemies will come from. This strategy can help keep enemies away from your crew, giving you some breathing room.
  • Trip Mines will usually kill enemies instantly, including the heavily armored Bulldozer.
  • Be careful using Trip Mines around civilians! The explosions will definitely kill innocents.

Sentry Gun
Unlocked at: Technician level 5
Upgrades: Armor increase 1 (level 10), Ammo increase 1 (level 11), Armor increase 2 (level 17), Ammo increase 2 (level 19), Armor increase 3 (level 24), Armor increase 4 (level 33), Ammo increase 3 (level 36), Ammo increase 4 (level 45)

The Sentry Gun is an offensive based item that kills enemies that steps into its range by firing its machine guns at them. Sentry Guns are good in keeping rooms clear of foes and covering your behind when it's time to escape, but it can easily be destroyed by enemy gunfire and enemies will shoot at a Sentry Gun when given the chance. Treat the Sentry Gun like another player; they can do the work on their own, but lack of support will get them wrecked fairly quick. The Sentry Gun has the same amount of firepower as the Compact-5, so it won't kill enemies super quick, but it can help you conserve ammo as you let the gun do its job. The Sentry Gun can only be used if you purchased the Wolf Pack DLC, which contains the Technician class that uses the Sentry Gun and its upgrades.

Tips:
  • Sentry Guns, like the Ammo and Doctor Bags, must be placed with care. Placing a Sentry Gun out in the open will get it destroyed by cops very quickly. Place the Sentry Gun in the corner of the walls to give it maximum cover.
  • Sentry Guns have limited ammo to spend and they cannot be refilled. Once the Sentry Gun is completely spent, it becomes useless. Don't place the Sentry Gun too early in a heist!
  • If a Sentry Gun spots a Shield SWAT, it will keep firing at him, even if its shield is blocking the shots. Kill the Shield quickly so your Sentry Gun doesn't waste ammo!
Equipment
Your equipment are passive bonuses that are always active during the heist. All upgrades that you earn for your equipment can stack, which will make them much more effective. Unlike deployable items, equipment are used only by you and only affect your own personal performance.

Body Armor
Upgrades: Body Armor increase (Support level 4, Technician level 6, Assault level 7, Sharpshooter level 11 and 25)

Body Armor is a passive item that is always in use so you don't have to worry about selecting it in the loadout screen. Body Armor is your shield against bullets and once your armor is completely worn down, you start taking damage to your health. Taking cover from gunfire for a few seconds will regenerate your armor. Taking fall damage will completely deplete your armor and damages your health at the same time. Every single class has an upgrade for your armor.

Thick Skin
Unlocked at: Sharpshooter level 2
Upgrades: Thick Skin 1 to 5 (Sharpshooter level 2, 8, 18, 27, and 39)

Thick Skin is a health bonus that increases your health, allowing you to take on more bullets before going into bleedout. Use Thick Skin if you find yourself going down a lot. The Sharpshooter class uses Thick Skin and the upgrades for it.

Extra Cable Ties
Upgrades: Extra Cable Ties 1 to 4 (Assault level 4, 12, 23, and 33)

By default, all players carry 2 cable ties, which are used to tie down civilians so they can be used for a hostage trade if a player is in police custody. You can get extra cable ties by leveling up in the Assault class and each cable tie upgrade adds one more tie to your stock, allowing you to carry up to 6 of them once the cable tie upgrades are maxed out. use cable ties whenever you can since saving them is a waste. Having more ties on hand is good if you need to have a lot of hostages in your possession and they can also be used to retie a civilian that was freed by the police. The Assault class has the upgrades needed for more cable ties.

Extra Start-Out Ammo
Unlocked at: Support level 2
Upgrades: Extra start out ammo 1 to 5 (Support level 2, 7, 16, 24, and 38)

Need more bullets? Then having extra ammo is what you need! The Extra Start-Out Ammo increases your maximum ammo capacity by 10% per upgrade level and peaks at 50% for the max upgrade. By having more ammo to start with, you won't have to worry too much about running out of ammo. The Support class has all the ammo upgrades that you are looking for.

Toolkit
Unlocked at: Technician level 1
Upgrades: Toolkit upgrade 1 to 4 (Technician level 1, 7, 16, and 38)

The Toolkit is an item that can only be used with the Wolf Pack DLC. The Toolkit belongs to the Technician class and it makes all interactions go at least 20% faster, which includes and is not limited to reviving players, using supply bags, tying down hostages, restarting faulty equipment, etc. The Toolkit is handy for speed runners and it is also helpful in critical moments when speed is needed.
Crew Bonus
Crew Bonuses work similar to items in the Equipment category, but they work only for your crew and not you. Crew Bonuses are designed to cover whatever weaknesses your crew may have due to limited choices in their loadout. Contrary to the popular belief, Crew Bonuses do NOT stack. If you want to gain the benefit that your bonus gives to the crew, someone else on the team has to use the same bonus as you. However, having multiple people with the same bonus will mean having a less diverse selection of bonuses used unless you have a specific strategy in mind.

Aggressor
Unlocked at: Assault level 26

The Aggressor bonus gives your crewmates increased firepower by 25%, making it handy on higher difficulties where enemies have more health. The bonus is perfect for a team that need a little more punch in their bullets.

More Blood to Bleed
Unlocked at: Sharpshooter level 33

Are you finding yourself down on the floor too much? Did you need an extra few seconds to bleed out before being revived? The More Blood to Bleed bonus has the solution by making all of your fellow heisters gain an extra few seconds during bleed out, allowing you to have more time to reach them when they are down.

Protector
Unlocked at: Support level 29

While the game info says the Protector bonus boosts health, it actually boosts armor. The Protector bonus allows your crew to absorb more bullets before their health starts to take a hit. Currently, the Protector bonus is, supposedly, bugged and does not work.

Sharpshooters
Unlocked at: Sharpshooter level 20

If your crew finds itself missing their shots every now and then, the Sharpshooters bonus is the answer. The Sharpshooters bonus increases your friends' accuracy by a slight amount, helping them make sure that their shots hit the people shooting at them.

Speed Reloaders
Unlocked at: Assault level 38

If your team is annoyed by weapons that reload slowly, the Speed Reloaders bonus can help mitigate the problem. Your team's reload speed with the bonus on will go 10% faster

Big Game Hunters
Unlocked at: Technician level 29

Does your crew need more ammo? Give them the Big Game Hunters Bonus! The bonus increases your crew's ammo capacity by 20% and it also stacks with the Extra Start-Out Ammo equipment, allowing people to have nearly double the amount of ammo they usually start with. You can only use this bonus if you have the Wolf Pack DLC!

Mr. Nice Guy
Unlocked at: Reputation level 145 (193 if Wolf Pack DLC is purchased)

If you are feeling generous to your fellow players, the Mr. Nice Guy bonus lets you crew gain 20% more cash so they can level up faster. It obviously doesn't work on a player that is maxed out.

Noob Lube
Unlocked at: Reputation level 0, lost at level 6

Noob Lube was made for new players that want a chance at helping their team indirectly and it works exactly like the Mr. Nice Guy Bonus while it also stacks with that bonus. Noob Lube is lost once the player goes beyond level 5, but it isn't officially lost until the heist finishes. Noob Lube is also needed for players who wish to obtain the Noob Herder achievement.

ofc there is a point in using the bag so quickly. In preventing you from running out of ammo
Kleyguerth Apr 23, 2013 @ 3:44pm
My point is that there is wrong information on the guide and it should be corrected. I read somewhere that a fully upgraded ammo bag gives 1100% ammo, but I can't confirm it.

Nor is there a point to use the bag so soon
Kleyguerth Apr 23, 2013 @ 12:58am
Ammo bag does not depelte by uses, but by % of ammo recovered, there is no point in waiting for ammo reserves be empty to use it
Akirato Apr 21, 2013 @ 2:42am
it helped

I'm pretty sure a video posted some time ago showed that Protector *does* work, but its effect on your shield was almost negligible.

Decent Guide, well done.
