What is the "Next" beta branch?
The "next" beta branch is a public preview branch accessible to any owner of Double Turn on Steam.

We use this branch for a few things:
  • Preview a new feature before setting it to the steam default
  • Test fixes with players
  • Prepare beta and release-candidate builds during the end of an update's development

Most of the time, it's that third one. The "next" beta branch is basically where all builds go before they are ready for the main store download. Normally this branch gets a release candidate build around a week prior to release. For us, release candidates mean that the build is feature complete, but hasn't been fully tested and there may be bugs. While these builds will be fairly stable, expect more potential instability than the store default. When things go well we simply take that release candidate and "promote" it to the store default.

A note for Linux users: Due to a more friction filled build/release process and the fact that development primarily happens on macOS and Windows, we don't normally release Linux builds on "next". However, for bug fixes we may put Linux builds on the "next" branch if the fix is for Linux specifically or we need to test it with a player on Linux.
