For me I upgraded everything equally, putting more emphasis on speed, infectivity and lifetime. My strategy throughout the game was to get perfects, and get to as many continents as I could as fast as possible. After I reach labs I actually push the region to "Death's Door" status, because the labs that are pushed to Death's Door only produce 1 cure point each day, which is only 1 more than zero points. This also prevents panic from skyrocketing around the region and the globe, so the game stayed relatively unhindered for the first 60 days or so.
After the military steps in I upgrade my Defense and when ZIT comes in I max defense and the rest of the game is in the bag
I also didn't see a guide for Super Hentai Red, the boss for Indo-China, or Rambeau for the Middle East. Just a head's up for ya in case those happen to be the newest additions to the "Big Guys" club. :)
Pre-patch I typically just Kruggy bomb the ZIT to save myself resources. If I have spare Military Zombies from all those crafting quests the game loves to give out, I'd just spawn them to wipe out the ZIT.
it works pretty well
