how to kill any boss in terraria

If you're stuck on a boss in the game terraria this is how you beat them 99.9% of the time.

Intro

So assuming you've lost to a boss one too many times, and you've entered rage mode and need to beat it already, you could ask someone to help, but whats the fun in that?
You most likely have a grappling hook but arent using it to its greatest potential, you may think "yes i am! i use it to run!" but the fact is if you're still reading this you're not using it right and need a tip from the king, master and best grapple user ever, me.

The best grapple early on

If you're still early in the game and the boss killing you is the EyeOfCthulu or the BrainOfCthulu, then the chances are you're new to the game and or are just very bad at the game you probably havent even made a hook yet! but lets fix that right now.

If you have made a grappling hook and its called 'Grappling Hook' throw it away as quickly as possible, this is the worst in every way possible, only good for slow turn arounds, now you may not know this or may indeed know this but a quick and easy to make hook would be a 'Gem Hook' these range between 6 different colors and speeds and reach, let me list them from speed and distance (tiles/blocks) to look for your ideal hook think of one thing first, do you struggle with constantly missing your target? if the awnser is yes look at the reach category, if the awnsers no look more at the velocity/speed category.

Name: Speed: Reach: Rarity (from my experience):
Amethyst Hook 10 18 Super Unrare
Topaz Hook 10.5 20 Super Unrare whatsoever
Sapphire Hook 11 22 common
Emerald Hook 11.5 24 Not too rare
Ruby Hook 12 26 rare
Diamond Hook 12.5 28 impossible to obtain (ive never made one ever)

Each Hook listed costs 15 of whatever gem respectively.

Other grapples worth mentioning

Theres are a few other grapples worth mention that nees there time in the spotlight, not all though
a grapple that stands out for having the 2nd fastest speed in the game only missing the top spot by 0.5 and the 3rd longest with its 32 tile/block reach is the bat hook, but the only problem is that this one only drops from the goodie bags, which are only obtainable during halloween, this was a problem unless yu just change your date and time which is nice or you can cheat it in, i wont hold it against you.

The ivy whip is a hook worth mentioning as its the one i usally finish hardmode with and usally get half way through hardmode with, it has a 13 velocity/speed and a good 25 reach so missing shouldnt occur unless you suck and to add to those stats it has an extra 3 hooks that can all be placed at once, this hook is way easier to obtain as you only need to farm the jungle for some spores(dropped from the plant uppon destroying it with a pickaxe), stingers(dropped by killing the hornets) and vines(dropped by killing the man eaters), this hook is up there for its 3 hook capability, easy to obtain materials and stats sort of.


I know some may wonder where the spider hook is on the list well here it is with a whopping 16 tile/block range and an amazing 10 speed, having 8 hooks isnt practical for beating bosses so lets just pretend this one was removed from the game.

Acctually killing said boss

The Arena
Make 5 rows of platforms have them each have a gap of 8 yes the jump heights way under that but this will get you used to using the grapple for mobility in every situation, so whenever you need to go up a layer throw your grapple up then once its hit the platform wait a split second and press space (or whatever your jump key is).











now i'll Do a run down of Three Bosses and A Basis for Hardmode Bosses.

Eye Of cthulu:
This guys the easiest, when he charges for you just throw your grapple at the other direction and thats a 99.9% successful dodge, in expert mode its the same thing but you may want to beef up on potions and armour just in case your new to this whole thing.
I reccommend 'Flaming Arrows' for the flaming debuff that he gets or frostburn arrows.

Brain Of Cthulu:
This is a bit different frimt the eye for the first section, in the first section you won't be able to attack the acctual boss itself but only the little underlings that surround it, use jester arrows or anything peircing to kill those easy peasie, and once the second stage comes do the same thing as for the eye but watch out for his teleporting and in expert just make sure your able to tell which ones acctually him.
I reccommend 'Jester Arrows' for the first stage and then 'Flaming Arrows' for the second phase for the fire damage debuff he gets.











Skeletron:
This ones eaither easy or TOUGH depending on who you are, I reccommend molten armour for this guy and a molten bow with either Flaming/Frostburn arrows or Hellfire arrows, the trick is to run left to right while moving up and down.
If its expert the grapplining technique is alot differnet as he now shoots these skulls at you quicker as his health gets lower, what you need to do (WITHOUT FAIL) is to get one hand very low on health then the other, (WITHOUT ATTACKING THE HEAD) then kill them both simultaneousl, skeletron will now begin to shoot curved homing skulls at you that deal HEAVY damage, these must be avoided at all costs, what you must do is adjust the platform arena i talked about at the begining and have a 10 gap between all the platforms and now extend these to about 6 - 10 rows 8 would be ideal, use the sheild of cthulu from the eye to dash and go in circles around him (the circle movement is to dodge the skulls). This is a hard boss so dont feel discouraged if not beaten easily in expert.

notes

# If you lost to the EaterOfWorlds then sorry he wasnt on here but he doesnt apply to the grapple, to kill him use Grenades, and if in expert use jester or unholy arrows as explosives deal 70% less damage in expert to the EaterOfWorlds.

# If you still keep loosing you probably only tried once or twice and without potions, remember the grapple may be your BFF but potions are the close second.
