How to Steal Dwarven Produce
By comicconcarne
I personally found the apple in the dwarf fortress to be the most difficult to obtain, so here's a handy guide to hitting all the runes in Brokkr's Forge and extending your life that tiny bit more because Hagalaz keeps smiting you and you're not having fun anymore.

Before You Start
You zone into Brokkr's Forge, and if this isn't one of your first few levels, your first thought is "where the hell is the apple gonna be in this maze?" Well, there are two ways to go about getting your shiny golden completionist apple.

No matter what, you will need to hit all four rune pillars around the map. The question is, are you going to do it the first time around, or are you going to slaughter every dwarf in the cavern and get the rune before circling back on the now-opened staircase? Since the dwarves aren't really a threat if you keep your god powers up, it depends on how you want to pace yourself.
The (Actual) First Pillar
If you were stumped, this is probably the one you missed!

If this game has been giving you Legend of Zelda vibes up to now, don't ignore those. In the first part of the city, on the first turn of the lowest road that is seemingly a dead end, you'll find a crack in the wall. You can smash this open. None of the other pieces of rubble in the cavern do this, so if you already hit every crystal, pumpkin cart, and broken walls, don't be disheartened.

When you widen the crack, walk up through it to reach a closed off road on the same level, with a bridge connecting to a tall building (you will have seen this already if you retrieved the rune beforehand). Give the pillar a good smack, or a normal smack, or even use up Thor's god power to smack it if you feel like it. It will light up and you will be on your way to your apple tree!

You can also catch a glimpse of Fe sitting deeper in the cavern as the camera zooms out.
The Second Pillar
You almost get pathed to this pillar. After going up the first staircase where you encounter your first dwarves, walk down and left, and go across the narrow bridge to the roof of the first square building. The pillar is right there. Once you hit it, continue through the map (you'll catch another glimpse of the bridge to the first pillar as you walk).
The Third Pillar
Massacre some dwarves after you walk across the bridge.

Once you remove these adorable obstacles, walk up along the right edge of the cliff. At the top, the rocks which seem to be borders will actually extend onto a little penninsula. Whack the pillar over here.

If you haven't already received Loki's blessing, turn around and keep following the top of the cliff face until you find the only open mine entrance. You'll get a demonstration on how to merc some more dwarves with your new deception power.
The Fourth Pillar
Take a moment to appreciate the view.

After walking across the long bridge and enjoying the scenery, start making your way through the next city portion of the map. There is a bridge in the top left corner. Nothing is over here except for another mob of dwarves and some Nordic lore. These are fun, but won't get you any closer to the apple, and you can completely skip this area if you want unless you're trying for 100% completion.

Once you reach the rooftops of this part of the city, you'll be near the edge of the map. Head upward and right until your can't go any further, then head downward and right. If you find the well, you've gone too far.
Getting Back to the Apple
Complete the rest of the level and retrieve Fe's rune, if you haven't already. This will repair the stairway between the start and end of the area, making it much easier to reach the apple.

Weave through the first city portion of the Forge again. Next to the bridge to the mines, there is a large staircase with pillars and, now, four lights on the floor with a copy of the rune. Really can't miss it. Walk across the newly built bridge and you'll find Ithunn's familiar tree.

Congratulations! You have single handedly slaughtered every dwarf on the map, and marginally extended your life. Go off and fight Fe (or try to fight Hagalaz again...) with pride.

Thanks, but could you be more specific about the First Pillar "on the first turn of the lowest road"... where? Thanks!
