Resident Evil:6 How turn off ingame VOIP
By Cinder/Sayo
This is a simple method to completely turn off the ingame VOIP for RE:6.

Anyone who plays RE:6 online will come accross this issue. If you open a lobby your third party Voicecom (TS3, Ventrilo, Skype, Mubmle etc.) will likely tune down the sound, and the ingame VOIP will transmit an Echo, the breathing of your buddy, and basically everything your partner does, and all in a terrible sound quality.

Sadly Capcom forgot to implement an option to shut off the games own VOIP, and the Voice Volume control under settings does not have any effect at all apparently. Doesn´t matter wether you tune it down to 0, the volume will still be the same as on 100.

So, the following workaround will show you how to circumvent this problem until Capcom patches in an option to turn it off for good.

How to turn the ingame VOIP off!
So let´s get started:

First start your RE:6, and go as far as the Lobby and invite your friends. From here on you can perform the following to rid yourself of the ingame VOIP:

1. Press Alt+Tab to minimize your RE:6
2. Open your Windows soundsettings, go to input devices (where it shows your active microphone)
3. Right Click on your Microphone and press deactivate
4. Right Click on your Microphone again and press activate
5. RE:6´s ingame VOIP will now be off, until you open a new lobby, if you do just rince and repeat

You do not have to be in the lobby for this to work, you can still do this when you have already started your game session. You only have to be @ or past the Lobby for this to work.

I only use TS3 so I cannot tell you wether the following is the same for other VOIP´s:

TS3 usually recognizes the on/off automatically and your Microphone will work again once you pressed "activate", if however, it does not, simply restart TS3 and Tab back into your game.

This is the quickest and least problematic way to do it. Good luck and have Fun :>

can't you just lower it?

I mean in-game settings, not steam settings. Obviously steam settings have no effect over the game.

Settings voice volume to 0 works for me just fine.

Well, even if you use a headset, the standard VOIP is complete BS. It transmits absolutely everything. It doesn´t matter what you change in the steam or RE:6 voice options it wont be affected unless you turn it off like explained here and in the comments.
Was playing with a friend who uses a headset and I could still hear everything he did, breathing, keyboard / mouse clicks etc.
Compared to real VOIP programs the voice activation is substandard at best.

Wish they implment a new option to just simply turn VOIP off. I don't like using headsets, but...Well, let's just say open mic creates lots of annoying feedback/echo for myself and other players. Annoying as hell.

Good to know, then again all this wouldn´t be an issue if those console ports would pay a little more attention to PC Controls and Settings.

used that de-activating trick for a while, then couldn't bother to do it anymore. better try a virtual soundcard software to put a "fake" microphone on steam settings

Yeah PTT and turning down the transmit volume have no effect on Steam, that's why you need to change the device that Steam uses for ingame talk to something that has no way of transmitting.

Not sure that it´s Steam´s VOIP that is the problem with RE:6, when I changed those settings, or set it to PTT it didn´t have any effect on RE:6´s VOIP, hell not even the games own Voice settings seem to have an effect:>
