Stamina

One of the most important functions in the game is the yellow stamina bar, which is located beneath the health silhouette of your selected character on the lower left hand side. Running and jumping slowly drains it as well as using the secondary or 'special' attacks of the dinosaurs. Keep in mind that as soon as it has been completely drained you will not be able to perform those actions either until you sit still, or walk normally, in order to restore it.

Be warned that holding down the shift key, whether or not you are just standing there, will prevent it from refilling.
Health and Ammo

Mercenaries and Dinosaurs restore health and ammunition differently from one another. The mercenaries need to approach square containers marked HEALTH or AMMO that are scattered in various, set spots across the maps. Not only does it require several precious seconds to replenish your supplies or raise your health from critical levels once you have activated it, the longer you are alive the longer it will take to restore anything. The camera also happens to be locked into a third-person birds-eye view several feet above your character, making it impossible to look around and make sure there are no dinos preparing to eviscerate you.

Every human character has exactly 150 health points.

-----

On the other end of the spectrum, the dinosaurs restore their health by eating dead iguanodons at set locations scattered throughout the maps, typically marked by a blood trail leading up to them or splatters nearby on the ground. Unlike the mercenaries, you have full control over the camera and can look around in a third person view, turning that sneaky mercenary into a sack of dead flesh. Dinosaurs will also begin to slow their restoration rate the more often a corpse is visited throughout one life.

Unlike the mercenaries, the Dilophosaurus has 180 HP, the Novaraptor has 250, and the Pteranodon has 275 HP. The Carnotaurus has 1100 HP, the T.rex has 2000, and the Spinosaurus (currently only usable in the Get to the Chopper mode) has 2500.

NOTE: It is possible to restore small amounts of health solely as a dinosaur by killing the opposition. The requirements are noted below in The Dinosaurs section.
The Mercenaries
For every mercenary, their health is located on the left-hand side in the form of a red silhouette with ‘150’ marked on the bottom right of it. As you lose points, the red will begin to drain from the figure until it is completely gone or you are eaten by a T.rex. Now just beneath it is your stamina bar, which will gradually gray out as you run or jump for longer periods.

On the right-hand side in the lower corner are icons representing how much ammunition you have and, just below that, how many of your secondary weapon you currently hold. Once you use a Commandos grenade launcher, for example, the orange filled in image for his grenades will gray out and automatically reload to the next one. To replenish these you need only to visit an ammo box.

COMMANDO

The powerhouse of the human team, the Commando is equipped with an automatic, high damage assault rifle that has a built in grenade launcher with three rounds. He is best played when up against the Carnotaurus, T.rex, or Spinosaurus. If you aim at the ground when you fire a grenade using the right-mouse button, either it will bounce off the surface and explode upon contact with a dinosaur or once it hits the next patch of ground. Note that he will automatically reload it. However, if you start firing immediately after it is shot and do not give him enough time, right clicking again will start the process over and the next icon will light up.

Now the Commandos melee, which you activate by pressing F, consists solely of smacking an opponent with the butt of his gun. In addition, while playing as this class, if you press CTRL to crouch it will tighten his aim.

PATHFINDER

A guide for the mercenaries and best used at close range, the Pathfinder is equipped with a shotgun and five flares. While his attacks can kill a small dinosaur in a single hit when at direct range or two at a moderate distance, he is most notable for his usage of the flares. By pressing the right-mouse button, he can throw one flare into the air or bounce it off the ground and completely blind every dino until it flickers out. However, do know that it will wear off as soon as a dino looks away.

When pressing F, his melee solely consists of slashing at a dino with his machete.

Please note that crouching does NOT tighten his aim reticle, but it will hide him and any other human player within the blind spot caused by a thrown flare.

PYRO

To call him an unstable firebug would be a massive understatement. The Pyro, living fully up to his name, is a mercenary equipped with what has been lovingly dubbed the 'Flamesaw'. His left-click primary attack, gouts of fire, is best used from mid-to-close range and does moderate damage, as well as sets any dinosaurs caught by it ablaze for a few seconds of continuous damage. However, his secondary, which is accessed with the right-click, is a built-in chainsaw that deals massive damage to every dinosaur at close range. This makes the Pyro the most recommended for beginning players, as he is the easiest to control.

Do note that to use his secondary attack with the right-click will not only drain your fuel reserves, but it will also take away from a yellow bar located beneath the flame silhouette in the lower right-hand corner. Think of it as the stamina bar for his flamesaw.

Now, unlike the previously mentioned characters, he is the first to have a secondary weapon. By rolling the mouse wheel or pressing '2' at the top of your keyboard, he will switch to 3 hand grenades. These can be thrown at moderate distances and will kill a dinosaur with low health or upon direct contact. However, be warned: Throwing a grenade at your feet will count as a suicide and if its blast radius hits you, you will take at least 20 points of damage.

If you press F while using the Flamesaw, he will use the saw itself to attack an opponent. However it does not do nearly as much damage in comparison to when you right-click. If you melee while he is holding a hand grenade, he will push the dino in front of him away with his hand.

BE WARNED: If you are going to be actively using his Flamesaw, the Pyro will be incapable of moving quickly and will slow down to a virtual crawl. It is best to use his main attack sparingly.

SCIENTIST

Currently the only female character and the sniper of the group, she is best equipped to take on the Pteranodon, Novaraptor, and T.rex from a distance using her rifle. Left clicking will fire off a single round, but they can be done in quick succession--almost immediately wiping out her 7-round cartridges. However, one shot to the torso will take exactly 200 damage and a headshot will immediately kill any small dino.

Similar to the Commando, crouching will tighten her aim considerably. However, by right-clicking once you use the scope on her rifle and obtain a moderate firing distance. Right-click again and she will zoom in further, but be warned: this will greatly reduce your visual range to an extremely tight spot. Most would not recommend doing this unless you have a slow or moderately quick Pteranodon already spotted and can track it easily. If you right-click a third time or reload, she will automatically scope out. The Sniper is also the second character to have a secondary weapon that you can scroll or press '2' to use.

When drawing her second weapon, you may not think much of it. Relatively small, quite light, and has a larger reserve with 9 rounds instead of 7. You can also zoom in, but it is far less accurate than her rifle. This new gun is filled with tranquilizer darts and with a few shots, it can not only completely drain a dinos stamina and make it to where they are unable to walk normally, but kill them. However, it can only kill the smaller dinos--the Pteranodon, Dilophosaurus, and Novaraptor. Nevertheless, it is completely crippling to the T.rex and Carnotaurus with enough shots.

If you press F while playing the Scientist, she will use a cattle prod that completely drains dinos stamina in a single hit and will not allow it to restore for a few seconds. Multiple hits from the cattle prod, approximately 10-12, will kill a novaraptor. 6-8 for Dilo and 12-14 for Ptera.

TRAPPER

The bane of every dinos existence, a Trapper with moderately good aim can cripple the dino team. His primary weapon is a gas-powered net gun with 5 rounds that can trap and immobilize the Dilophosaurus, Pteranodon, and Novaraptor. When it comes to the Carnotaurus and the T.rex, it prevents their ability to bite and restore health, which can make them exceedingly vulnerable.

Now to further detail his net gun, when it has successfully captured a smaller dino the Trapper can run up to them and press F to use his melee weapon: a serrated hunting knife. Once it has made contact with the opponent, it will immediately kill them. Against a netted carno or T.rex, it will only do negligible damage. However, he easily makes up for this with his secondary weapon: rapid firing dual pistols with six rounds in one gun and seven in the other.

Once you have switched to his new weapon set, you can fire one gun with the left-mouse button and the other with the right-mouse button. Pressing them at the same time will cause him to fire both at once. Now while their damage may not be nearly as high as the other mercenaries may be, they can do their fair share so long as the player has decent aim.
The Dinosaurs
For every dinosaur, the health is located on the left-hand bottom corner in a silhouette shaped like the one you are currently playing. Beneath it, the Stamina bar can be found as well which drains far less quickly in comparison to the mercenaries.

On the lower right-hand corner, you can see a silhouette in the shape of your selected dinosaurs head. This is the icon representing their ‘roar’ ability. Once used it will refill at different rates for every dinosaur, but once it has completely regenerated it can be used again immediately.

PTERANODON

One of the most important dinosaurs to the entire team, the Pteranodon is a force to be reckoned with in the right hands. Considered the scout, the Pteranodon is typically used for rooting out mercenaries that are trying to hide in buildings, under the brush, and even in scattered plane remains. By pressing Q to use its special roar ability while flying relatively close to the ground near human players, the Pteranodon can mark every merc within sight so that the entire dino team can see them. However, it typically wears off in approximately 7 seconds, which is also when the roar will be renewed and able to be used again.

The other parts in the Pteras arsenal is the fact that it can not only fly fast and low, but when going over the mercs or chasing after them on the ground, left-clicking will allow you to peck at their heads or lower regions to take a decent chunk of their health.

Where the Pteranodon truly shines and goes above its ability to mark the entire mercenary team is when it is up in the air and quickly flying toward an opponent. Once you are near your target and either above or slightly behind them, right clicking will allow the Ptera to grab the merc with its feet and slowly rise into the air by holding down the spacebar, then you can drop them to their death far below. Nevertheless, be warned: you must have enough stamina to fly high enough or you will automatically release the player. In addition, if the opposing team shoots you, you will lose your hold as well as a decent amount of health.

As mentioned in the controls, you can now hold Spacebar to fly. Doing so will cause the Ptera to immediately shoot into the air. If you hold shift while flying up or in any direction, even towards the ground, it will pump its wings and gradually gain speed. Pressing R will cancel your flight and force you either into a glide (if holding space) or to fall rapidly. Shift will make it run around the map if you are grounded.

Now to land as the Ptera, you need to fly straight at the ground. However, if you stop flying when high in the air by running into a tree, rock formation, or any other solid object, you will take high damage upon hitting the earth or even die outright.

NOVARAPTOR

Stealth and killing is the raptors game. Alone a single raptor can take out an entire merc team and then disappear into the forested areas of the various maps. But when you create a raptor pack with at least three, the raptor is one of the most feared predators in the game.

To attack, left clicking will cause it to perform a melee slash that inflicts moderate damage and that can be done repeatedly within 2 seconds of each attack. However once you right-click, the raptor will leap in a straight line in the direction you currently face to pounce on top of its prey and kill them within seconds as well as restore some health. Note that if you accidentally hit the spacebar, run out of stamina, or are shot by an opposing player, you will automatically release the person you have jumped on.

Now, similar to the other characters, pressing CTRL will allow the Novaraptor to crouch and pressing the spacebar will make it jump. The difference is that when the Novaraptor crouches, you can completely disappear behind trees, underbrush, plane pieces, and boxes. Moreover, when you hold down the spacebar it has not only the highest leap, but also it can go the farthest.

Holding shift when playing as the Novaraptor allows you to book it out of enemy territory and to other dinosaurs or a dead dino to restore your health. The Novaraptor is the quickest dino on land both with its normal gait and with its run, both of which can be used in lethal combination.

To conclude this section, pressing Q will activate the Novaraptors special roar. While it will completely drain your stamina and will not allow it to replenish until the effect is over, the raptor is now capable of using its melee attack in quick succession as well as raising how much damage it does. Using this ability, it can kill an enemy merc within seconds and easily move on to the next.

DILOPHOSAURUS

Strangely, the least used dinosaur of those currently available, the Dilo is perhaps one of the most dangerous even in comparison to the massive T.rex and the Novaraptors ambush tactics. Alone the dilo is terrifying, even if it may seem rather cute with its relatively short stature.

By left clicking, the Dilo will bite an opponent--but be warned: it is similar to taking a tranq. It will slow down the human that was bit as well as cause their screen to waver, similar to the attack from the Scientist.

The only way to spit with the Dilo now is when you press Q to roar. It cannot be used in quick succession or abused as it was previously.

CARNOTAURUS

Often mistaken for a damage sponge, the Carno is the battering ram of the dino team and most effectively used to scatter the mercenaries.

While left clicking to use its bite is an effective tactic as well as using the right-mouse button to swing its head around and knock opponents aside, the Carno is most notable for its Charge ability. Unlike all of the other dinos on the team, by holding down the shift button the Carno will rapidly increase its speed and then lower its head. While this is most commonly recommended in open environments rather than in closed-in areas, it will charge in any direction you desire and ram aside whoever happens to be in your path. This will often take off more than half of the mercenaries’ health with a single hit, and kill them with a second. However, this is virtually nullified when using its roar ability.

When you press Q, the Carnotaurus will lower how much damage it does to regain health upon charging into an opponent. Health can also be replenished by killing a mercenary with a bite attack.

Lastly, the Carnos jump is not high at all, but will allow it to get onto boxes to access the main rooftop on the Docks map. As for its crouch, this will only hide it when behind shipping containers or buildings.
The Dinosaurs (cont.)
T.REX

Unfortunately, the tyrant itself is mistaken for a damage sponge when it is anything but. Because of its massive size, virtually every mercenary will shift their attention from their current attackers to that of the T.rex. However, this is also where its strength comes in: scattering the mercenaries to the four winds and distracting them long enough for a pack of Novaraptors and Dilos to dispatch them.

One of its most feared abilities is that of the left, or right clicks, bite. It will kill a human in a single hit and allow the T.rex to swallow its opponent whole, restoring a decent amount of health that will allow it to carry on the fight for much longer than its companions will. The second 'attack' the T.rex is capable of is crushing anyone who happens to pass by--or under--foot. This can be done when it is walking or by pressing shift to run through a gathered group of mercs.

Unlike the other dinosaurs, pressing the spacebar will not allow the T.rex to jump or CTRL to crouch. Instead, space will cause it to raise its head so that it may eat mercenaries from high places or that have been dropped by a Petra. CTRL will cause it to lower its head and snap up any who happen to be close by on the ground.

Lastly, its Q roar ability makes all dinosaurs near the T.rex invulnerable for a few seconds, counting it as an 'adrenaline boost'.

SPINOSAURUS

The last baddy of the dinosaur arsenal is the Spinosaurus who, as of the moment, can only be used in the Get to the Chopper mode. With a whopping 2500 health and able to take vastly more damage than the T.rex, this dino puts the tyrant to shame. Not only is it fully capable of devouring prey in a single, swift bite as well as crushing them into paste by running over them, right-clicking allows the spinosaurus to swing its powerful arms and killer claws to knock the mercenaries away. Whether this is to their death in the water or the fact they already have low health, the Spinosaurus is a force to be reckoned with. However, it does take a bit longer to consume its meal.

Also like the T.rex, CTRL will lower its head, spacebar will raise it, shift will cause it to gain speed, and Q will make all dinosaurs near it invulnerable for a short duration.
Game Modes - Team Death Match
TEAM DEATH MATCH

Perhaps the straightest forward of the two modes currently available, Team Death Match is a fight for survival with the dinosaurs and the mercenaries going head-to-head. Points are scored by killing the opposition and whoever has the highest kill score, rather than points, is typically crowned the winning team. Exactly 100 points are given for 1 kill.

However, instead of outright murdering every player in order to gain points, you can also obtain them for 'assists'. Of them, there are two types, which range from granting 50 to only 20. They are as follows:

20 point assists consist of: Another dino killing a player you marked with a Pteranodon roar; using the Adrenaline Boost ability of the T.rex; blinding a human player before they're killed by two other dinos; shooting a dino with a single tranq dart as the Scientist or tasering them; being one of two mercenaries to kill a Trapper netted dino; blinding dinosaurs with flares; and getting a direct hit on the T.rex with a Commando grenade.

For 50-point assists, you simply need to be the first or second-to-last player that aids in killing a mercenary or dinosaur through any means.

Alternately, you can also gain negative points for every suicide or accidental death, each one netting you -100 points, -1 to your total kills, and +1 to your total deaths. If you just started the game and immediately ran off the boat on the Docks map or walked into one of the rapids in the Falls, your score would read as -100 points, -1 kills, 1 death. This will negatively affect your teams overall score as well, but it can easily be brought back into the positive and beyond by killing and assisting your teammates.

Now concerning the maps used in Death Match, there are currently five available: the lush wilderness with treacherous rope bridges known as Forestchasm; the abandoned base with strategic wall platforms and forest surroundings known as Utilitybase; the dark, stormy, and terrifying Airbase with numerous places to hide in plain sight; a relatively closed-in area within a dome that has a surrounding ocean, tugging rapids, and massive trees known as the Falls; and the open-area arena with plenty of places to fall to your death or be shot by stalking mercenaries, best known as the Docks.

Although slightly old, there is a map called Snowbound. Suitably creepy and with a heavy mist, it is a great map for humans... so long as they remember to stick together.

Recently a new map has been added that is titled Marsh. Humans will have a near impossible time trying to find the dinos hiding in the tall grass, so they best keep on their toes and their wits about them. A heavy mist and constantly moving foilage from in-game wind will make it difficult to tell if that was a dino who passed by, or just your imagination.
Game Modes - Get to the Chopper
GET TO THE CHOPPER

In this game mode, the objective is relatively simple. As a mercenary, you must go to several 'TAKE' or 'CAPTURE' points in order to work your way toward getting the helicopter prepared for ferrying your team off the forsaken island. Some will require you capturing more objectives than others do, but fortunately, they are clearly marked on the map as well as on the top bar showing what you need to do now. To aid the mercenaries in their endeavor, once they have capped a point, every player will respawn in that building and no dinosaurs can get inside of it.

Alternately, the dinosaurs must prevent the humans from taking each of these points and slaughter them as quickly and efficiently as possible. However their secret weapon is not the T.rex--instead it is the Spinosaurus, which can typically only be spawned at the end of a match when the mercenary team is headed for the helicopter.

Gaining points is done in the exact same manner as in Death Match, however your overall score will matter little if you cannot hold the point for the helicopter and escape or wipe out the mercenaries before they flee. Your P/K/D/A (Points, Kill, Death, Assists) ratio will have absolutely no effect if you cannot work as a team to prevent them from escaping or being obliterated.

As for the maps in GTC, there are currently only four. There is Ruthless, aptly named for its snowy environment, skeletal remains, and unforgiving cliffs; Docks GTC edition which takes place at night and in an foggy environment that makes it hard to discern friend from foe; The Falls GTC edition which expands the initial map and allows the Spinosaurus to spawn immediately, hunting your team and drawing everything down to the wire; and Downpour, a lush and massive forest environment that is covered in a heavy mist and soft rainfall. The paths are a guaranteed death sentence and it is near impossible to see through the foliage...
Tips and Tricks
When you are playing on the dinosaur team, please remember the following:

Novaraptor can effectively hide within cargo containers on the Docks map as well as reach areas that no other land-based dino could ever hope of climbing. The raptors basic skin also allows it to disappear behind trees, bushes, boxes, and various other level design pieces so that it can stalk and kill without ever being seen. In addition, if you can form up a pack with other raptors, do it. Moreover, do not stray away from your pack even when you are being shot at. You are most effective and at your best when working as a solid team, whether or not the other dinos are there to back you up.

For Dilophosaurus players, not only are you horrifying when you have formed into packs of two or more, but your blinding spit ability can turn the tide of a match. When a Pathfinder throws down a flare, spit them in the eye. You are also fully capable of reaching high points on top of buildings by climbing low boxes or containers strewn throughout the map. Take full advantage of this! A group of mercenaries that cannot effectively dispatch you makes you that much of a greater asset to the team.

Pteranodons: concentrate on marking the mercenaries with your Q roar ability and then go for grabbing them and dropping them to their deaths below. Pteras are virtually useless when they cannot effectively combine the two as you are leaving your team blind to enemy movements. If you are worried about your total points score, you can easily rival that of a T.rex player by marking the large groups and leading your team to wiping them out; even with no kills under your belt!

T.rex, you are not a tank and you do not soak up damage. When an entire team of mercenaries turns their sights toward you, you are effectively dead on the spot. So instead, quickly charge through them with a pack of Novaraptors running at your feet and a Pteranodon effectively marking the entire team. If you can work together with the other dinosaurs, you will die far less often and be more of an asset than a detriment. This goes the same for the Spinosaurus! Moreover, if a mercenary is running around your feet, do not spin a circle to try and kill them. This is completely ineffective. Do note that the T.rex has recently been given a speed debuff and it will be harder to crush humans underfoot, so pay close attention to where you are and how many team members you have with you!

Carnotaurus, you too are not a tank so do not try to pretend you are. Instead, rush through the enemy team when they are gathered into large groups from behind: this is where they are least likely to spot you coming. Now, not only does it effectively scatter the team by throwing them with your head, but the entire group typically falls apart when two or more Carnos make a few passes. If you want to be at your most effective, work alongside the T.rex and possible raptor packs so they can pick off any stragglers.

Concerning the mercenaries, please keep the following in mind:

Every single one of you is squishy and will die fairly quickly on your own. Whether or not you think you work best without any other player at your side, keep at LEAST one companion with you at all times. Moreover, if you see a mercenary that is straggling behind or that has been pounced by a raptor or grabbed by a Petra, do what you can to save them or bring them to the rest of the group. Alternatively, if you see someone out there alone, heading away from the rest, follow them, and make sure they are not attacked by a dino who is scouting the outer edges.

All of the mercenaries work best as a team, whether your concern is through the rock-paper-scissors system or that you happen to be the long-ranged scientist and need back up for opponents who are too close for comfort.

Stick together and you will undoubtedly survive longer than you would without your companion’s aid.
Current Bugs and Glitches
For human and dino players, jumping onto rock formations with a deep divot or walking into and leaping to tight corners will get you stuck. Typically, the only way to get out of it without losing any points is to request a player from the opposing team come kill you. However, you can press T or Y, delete say, and type in Suicide then press Enter to kill yourself. You can also press ` (to the left of the 1 key on top of the keyboard) and type in Suicide to do so as well.

On the Ruthless GTC map, when playing as a Pteranodon and dropping players off the mountainside when they have come to the helicopter capture, will most often wind up with them surviving the fall. As they slide down the cliff face and approach the very first building they had to capture, the mercenaries will land on the snowy portion of the roof and take little damage. From here, they can easily restore their health and ammunition and trek back up to the capture point with relative ease. Be warned.

Raptors: While it may seem funny or like a good idea to use the pounce ability on a human who is currently cornered or at a rock formation, keep in mind that this will typically cause you to glitch into the corner and be permanently stuck in the leap position. From there any mercenary who finds you will have a free kill.

Now this is less of a glitch or bug, but the dinosaur’s heads and necks can go through buildings for they have no mesh collision or impact effects. Thus, a T.rex can still devour you even as you stand confidently inside of a building or cargo container a few inches away from its face, or even on the catwalks above its head.

For the currently usable premium skin in the beta test, all of its textures have been smushed into its tail fan.
FAQ
Q.) How do I obtain the feathered raptor skin? Do you get it from the skin package provided on steam?

A.) No. The feathered raptor skin could only be obtained if you had donated to the game or pre-purchased it before its release on October 29th, 2012. It will not be available for purchase again.

Q.) How do I change my (mercenaries) or (dinosaurs) skin?

A.) If you have the free T.rex 'battle scarred' skin or purchased the variety packs available on Steam for 1.99 USD, when you open up the character select screen and hover over your character, there will be a photo of them on the left-hand side. It will be relatively small and show arrows pointing up and down with 'Current Skin' clearly labeled above it. Click either of these arrows and it will automatically change to a skin you own.

All of that aside, this sounds like it has been an issue brought on by the 'recent' update to the game. The bugs and glitches introduced with it, including the inability to join the server your friend is on, is more than likely due to the broken coding and you may not be able to get around it until they release a patch.

I hope those workarounds help. If they do not, I will see if I can find some more information on it and other possible solutions.

From what I have read, joining a server with low ping should get you around that bug. 250 and below seems to be agreed on. There is also a server that sometimes comes up with the title 'Play here if you can't play others'. If that does not work, some recommend hosting your own server if you are capable. Verifying your cache and downloading the missing files may do it, since I have noticed that I will randomly lose 12 every time I start (or restart) the game. That seems to fix it on my end.

There are of course those who suggest turning off your firewall if you feel comfortable doing so or have not attempted that yet. Restarting the computer and updating does not appear to have helped anyone who has done it so far.

From what I understand, the utility stat is there to inform players how useful the character is in situations when they are both solo and teamed up. If I recall, Trapper is the highest due to his net gun being capable of filling in virtually any role so long as he has ammo.

i have question what is utility on the mercenaries stat?

Very welcome!
