Basic Weapon Types to Fit Your Style

This is a guide that describes most of the weapon types is M&B WFAS. Hopefully it will help you decide what weapon to use to fit your style.

Ranged Weapons

Ranged weapons in WFAS consist of two groups, firearms and bows. Of the two, Firearms are more powerful. The drawback for firearms is that they have only 1 shot ( 2 if you have the double barrel firearms ) and they take forever to load. Bows on the other hand offer high rate of fire, but also have decreased range and power.

If you want to use a horse and a firearm you have two choices. Pistol, and Carbine. They are different subtypes of each which i will not delve into here. The Pistol has faster rate of fire with decreased damage, range, and accuracy. The Carbine is slower to load than the pistol but is handy for longer ranged shots or if you need to inflict higher damage. Different bullets add to the damage by a small amount ( ie. Heavy Bullets, Bent Bullets ). If you want increased damage and accuracy you would use a musket. The disadvantage to the musket is that you can only use them while dismounted. Muskets also take longer to load. So if you are a light cavalry person I would suggest a Carbine with two cans of bullets. If you are a marksman i would say you need a musket. But its all up to you.

Bows are a different matter entirely. Bows can have different arrows to shoot, much like the firearms. They also can rattle off multiple rounds in a small span of time. Unfortunately they do not have the range or power of their Firearm counterparts. Another drawback is that bows lose accuracy the longer you hold the string back. So fire those shots as soon as the bow gets all the way drawn back.

Melee Weapons

The Heart and Soul of M&B is Melee Weapons. This could range from swords and axes to long pikes or Claymores.


One Handed melee weapons consist of Axes, Swords, Hammers. I am almost certainly missing some types here but, no matter. One handed weapons offer speed and the ability to hold a shield. Disadvantages to the One Handed weapon is decreased weapon reach and power. Different types of weapons have different stats. Swords are long but lack the power of Axes and Hammers. The main thing you need to know is that One handed weapons are more on the Defensive side of melee combat because of the ability to hold a shield. So use these weapons when you are mounted or when you are outnumbered. Shields have saved me many times in this game.



Two handed is the Offensive side of Melee. Two handed weapons consist of Claymores, Pikes, Lances and the like. The main thing you use Two Handed for is ATTACK. Defense is lacking with these weapons but they make up for it with nearly double the damage of One Handed. Two Handed is a LOT slower than the one handed and lack the ability to carry a shield. Pikes or Lances are great when you are mounted for taking out horses or fleeing infantry.

Uhh, you can block perfectly fine with 2 handed weapons... if ur good enough. It's really not that hard if u play a lot of NW. But, it is easier with a shield.
