Basics
Okay, so you want to drift. You came to the right guide to do so. First thing first: You better ditch that keyboard for either a gamepad or a wheel. It doesn't matter if it's an old GameCube controller or an Xbox one as long as you can control your steering. (This step is optional, some of the top players in this game do use a keyboard... But as the learning curve is very steep to players that have never played a drifting simulator it isn't recommended by me.)

With that squared away, we'll get into your basics. Configure your controler mapping before you try to drift (I fell for that, hoping it would be automatically set) by going into Options>Controls from the main menu.

From there, you'll want a car perfectly balanced and tuned for drifting (I'll go over tuning in another portion of this guide.) If you're new to the game, you'll have to use the stock NS15 until you make enough money for upgrades, or you can sell it and buy the AE86S like I did when I first started. I do prefer this car due to it's short wheelbase and relative ease to initiate drifts and transitioning. However, choosing a car that you like and comfortable with is obviously the best option.

And don't forget, your obligatory music for high speed-dorifto and ultimate rev matching.

OK, we're set to go all out and attack some corners. My suggestion is to start out on the Country Road map because it's narrow and there's a lot to learn just by trying to drift it (Weight shifting, brake and accelerator control, etc.). Starting out, you'll want to bring your car up to speed (60-90km/h)

Let the rear of the car slide out and adjust your angle using the accelerator as needed for the corner you're on

(Yes, they're not the same location but this is for educational purposes)

When it's time to shift your weight to go around another corner, let off of the accelerator and get back onto it and hopefully the rear will slide the other way (You can use your brakes, handbrake and/or down and upshifting as well).

This is one of the ways you can be fast on country road. Reducing the amount of counter-steer and controlling your drift with throttle control can improve your speeds to the point where you can attack corners 80km/h+ without a problem and you'll be able to pull some sweet angles out of it.
(At this point, you will already know what works for you and your limitations.)

Tuning/Modification
Tuning and modification is a game changer. Tuning varies from player to player, as they all have been trying new things with their tyre pressure, suspension, and all the way up to that tyres they use for hundreds of hours to find what is best for them. I started out on this game just about when it first came out, and have been through multiple physics changes.

I really recommend that you spend at least an hour learning about what you are adjusting in the tuning settings, and how it affects your car. In the long run, you'll be helping yourself and perhaps anoher person who is curious. I made a video of my tuning on both my AE86S and NS13, they're almost the same but each has been allowed to highlight the differences in each car.

As you can see, I highlighted all the areas in which I believe are essential to my playstyle. Starting with the engines and working all the way down to tyres. With tuning and modification, it's essential to take in how all of the things come together. It's also important to know small changes have a very great effect.
Closing
This is all for my first guide on Steam, I really just want new and improving players to pick up on skills they don't have just yet. Furidashi is a challenging, yet fun game. The community is also very helpful and I want to do my part in furthering that. I really hope someone gains something out of this guide, as I have never shared my tuning or playstyle publicly.

What's really important to me to tell you, as a new player is that it's 100% okay to make mistakes. I do it, and everyone at the top makes mistakes as well. I encourage you to make mistakes, but at the same time if you make a mistake you should take your time to learn what it is you did wrong, and apply that knowledge the next time you play. In no time you'll be in the top of the World Championship.

Always keep improving!
