Introduction
Access the Red Room and obtain all three endings for Welcome To The Game v2.0. This guide is quite long and goes into detail on how to complete the game.

I have tried to keep the spoilers to a minimum in this guide, and I have not given any details about the endings for example. I have only provided my strategies and tips for getting to these endings.

Big shout out to Reflect Studios and Adam Flatau, the developer and creator of Welcome To The Game respectively for giving us a solid horror experience. I have thoroughly enjoyed playing this game and I have yet to play a game that’s scarier than this. I can’t wait to play WTTG II and Rides With Strangers :)

Some recommendations
Before you start your search for the Red Room, here are some recommendations:
  • Wear headphones. Sound is your biggest ally when playing this game, and you need to be able to hear the smallest of sounds in order to survive.

  • Use the Notes area in-game to write down your notes. This makes your notes that much more important and it makes the game more intense and fun. You could write down your notes using a real-life pen and paper, but that's what filthy cheaters do. You're not a cheater, right?

  • The game can hear your microphone - but you can disable this in the game settings. This is useful if there's a lot of noise happening in real life, or if your mic is a bit sensitive. I have this disabled to be on the safe side, though you may wish to enable it if you want to increase your immersion.

  • If you're recording and/or streaming gameplay of this game, be warned that it contains images of nudity. These can be disabled in the game settings, and they will be censored with black boxes upon doing so to save you a little bit of editing time.
Bugs
There are a couple of minor bugs in the game that are worth noting before starting your search for the Red Room:

If you type more characters than will fit in the text field in the Notes app, this will cause your notes to be delayed. Whenever you enter a note, the previous note will appear when you hit Enter.
  • This means you will have to type an extra note into the box in order to make your real notes appear on-screen. This can become mildly annoying as your actual notes will soon be jumbled up in a page of gibberish.
  • Remember that the text field is just long enough to contain a URL. Whenever you paste a URL into the Notes app, any other characters must be on a separate line of text or else this bug will occur.

If you pause the game when using the computer, the in-game mouse cursor will be stuck in place when you resume the game.
  • To fix this you must leave the computer by clicking right-mouse and then left-click the computer to go back on it. You should now be able to move the cursor.
1) Threats to the player
There are four threats to you as the protagonist during your search for the Red Room:-

  • The Breather
  • The Kidnapper
  • Hacks
  • Time

Each of these threats is explained in detail in their respective sections of the guide below.
The Breather

During early-game, you will receive some phone calls on your cell phone. When you answer them, you will hear a man breathing very creepily down the phone and he will sometimes threaten you verbally.

This man is a serial killer known as ‘The Breather,’ and his targets are users of the Deep Web and random hitch-hikers. He wears a hoodie and doctor’s face mask and wields a kitchen knife as his weapon.

Upon answering his phone calls, you can choose to hang up at any point. I am unsure if it makes any difference to listen to his dialogue in full or to just hang up on him immediately. I usually do the latter to save time, and it also makes it easier to guess when the Breather will try to break into the house. There will typically be two phone calls made before the Breather appears at the house, though he will sometimes call three or four times.

The Breather will scout the outside of the house off-screen before attempting to break in, and you will hear noises in or around the house. During early-game you can ignore these noises for the most part as you only have the Breather to contend with. However, there are two key noises you should listen out for:

  • Loud bang outside
  • Door knob squeaking

If you hear either of these noises, go straight to the front door as the Breather will be there.

It’s also a good idea to check the front door every so often even if you don’t hear any noises, as there’s always a chance that he may turn up. As mentioned above there will usually be two phone calls before the Breather attempts to enter the house.

I usually start checking the door after the second phone call whenever I hear a noise, as it only takes a second.

For reasons unknown, the Breather can only enter the house through the front door. There are two ways of preventing the Breather from entering the house:

Stealth method

Keep hold of the left mouse button on the door knob until he leaves the porch. This method is useful in early-game as the Breather will not be certain that the house is occupied and it will take him longer to come back and check again.

  • If you have your mic enabled when standing at the front door, be careful not to make any noise in real life as the Breather will be able to hear this and will then attempt to breach the door.

Be aware that the stealth method can consume a lot of time and will probably allow the Kidnapper to grab you later on in the game.

Quick method

Hold left mouse on the door knob until the Breather stops turning it, and then look right at him through the door window (hold D). This will alert the Breather of your presence and he will attempt to force the door open by throwing himself against it.
  • Remember that the Breather can also hear your mic if it is enabled, and you can use this to alert him if you wish.

You will have to keep clicking the left mouse button to brace yourself against the door.
  • This method is much faster as the Breather will soon tire of trying to force the door open and will leave the porch much sooner. However, he will now know of your presence and will return to the house sooner than before to check on you again.

  • When bracing yourself against the front door, you don’t need to constantly spam left-mouse. You can spam it in bursts, wait about 1-2 seconds before pressing left-mouse again in between each slamming of the door.

This method is vital in mid-late game as it is the only effective way to juggle the Breather and Kidnapper. If you spend too much time at the front door the Kidnapper will be able to enter the house and grab you on your way back to the desk.

When you have secured the front door, the “Brace Yourself” prompt will disappear but you will not be able to return to your desk right away. Look through the front door window and watch the Breather. Once he runs off-screen, you can now return to your desk.

When you return to your desk, immediately check the grey taskbar at the top of your computer screen for the location marker - a white arrow icon. If it appears, turn off the lights and do not move because the Kidnapper has just tracked your location.
The Kidnapper
As you go further into the Deep Web and accumulate more pieces of the Red Room’s URL, a white van will appear in front of the house and you will soon encounter a masked man with a Russian accent looking for you.

This is the Kidnapper, and he wears a balaclava and leather gloves. He will enter the house through the open window next to your computer (seriously, why would you leave it open?).

Once you spot the Kidnapper’s van outside of the house, you now need to pay close attention to any noises that happen in or around the house and turn off the lights once you hear them. I have elaborated on this further down the guide.

The Kidnapper can catch you in one of five scenarios:
  • If you do not take notice of any key noises and turn off the lights in time, the Kidnapper will climb through the window and grab you from your desk.

  • If you check the front porch and did not notice the Kidnapper making noise, he can catch you on your way back to your desk. He will grab you in the doorframe between the front room and the computer room.

  • If you turn the lights off but then turn them back on too soon, the Kidnapper will be standing right behind you when you turn to face your computer desk.

  • If the Kidnapper is walking past your window when there are sounds coming from your desk (i.e. websites playing sounds, the Breather calling your phone, noise on your mic), he will be alerted of your presence and will grab you.

  • If you visit the Pedo Handbook website and click the ‘Enter’ link, the Kidnapper will appear right next to you and grab you.

The Kidnapper’s white van will appear at the front porch once the player has found three random Red Room codes (or possibly if a certain number of days elapses, but I’m not able to confirm this). This does not include the Gatekeeper code since that code does not spawn randomly.

There are two ways to avoid the Kidnapper:
  • The main way to avoid him is to listen out for any noises being made in or around the house. These include grass crunching, footsteps in the house, chairs moving, footsteps outside and – possibly a dead giveaway of the Kidnapper’s presence – is when he makes a “Hmm…” sound.

o If you hear any suspicious noises, leave the monitor with right-mouse, look at the wall behind you (hold S) and left-click on the light switch to turn off the lights. Then sit completely still at your desk and look straight at the phone. Do not make any noise that could be picked up by your mic if it is enabled.

  • Alternatively you may spot an arrow icon appear for a second in the grey taskbar at the top-right corner of your computer screen. This is a location icon and it means that the Kidnapper has tracked a signal coming from the house.

o If you ever see this icon appear, immediately turn off the lights and sit still at your desk with your crosshairs on the phone. Do not make any noise that could be picked up by your mic if it is enabled.
o The location icon will often appear right after your computer has been attacked by a hack, whether you block the hack or not. Always look at the taskbar once you have gotten rid of a hack.

Once you have turned off the lights, sit completely still at your desk and keep your crosshairs on the phone. The reason for this is that the Breather can sometimes call you while the Kidnapper is walking by your window, and this will alert the Kidnapper of your presence.

If the Kidnapper is present when you turn off the lights, he will soon walk past your window and speak in Russian to another person on the phone. Once he stops speaking, you will hear his footsteps slowly leaving the house, and the Kidnapper will utter one last line of dialogue before he actually disappears. At this point it is now safe to turn the lights back on.

If your mic is enabled in the game settings (and is also enabled in general), be careful to not make any noise in real life that could be picked up on the mic as the Kidnapper will hear this. It may be a good idea to play this game with your doors and windows closed to minimise noise, or you can just disable the mic in the game settings like I did.

Some websites will play sounds or music and this will sometimes keep playing even after you turn off the lights (the Illuminati website is one example of this). To prevent this from giving you away, you can mute the sound on the computer by pressing the speaker icon in the taskbar at the top-right corner of the screen before switching off the lights. This will mute any sounds coming from the computer.

If this catches you off-guard, you can still switch the lights back on, mute sound/leave the website and turn the lights back off before the Kidnapper appears, but you have to be very quick.

Kidnapper lore – because why not?

Not much is known about the Kidnapper story-wise, but my guess is he works for the people who run the Red Room.

One reason for this is that his van always appears at the front porch when the player finds three random Red Room codes, which suggests that he has been sent to stop you from exposing the Red Room to the general public.

But he speaks Russian, and the Executioner in the game’s ending definitely sounds American (in fact he sounds like the Joker)? I would say that he doesn’t speak English during a kidnapping job so as to make it more difficult for any witnesses to give the police a lead on the Red Room. It makes sense that these sickos would want as much security as possible, or else why would they hide pieces of the Red Room URL all over the Deep Web?
Hacks
As you spend more time on the Deep Web, your computer is more likely to be hit with a hack attack. Thankfully your tech-savvy friend Adam (totally not the game developer) has installed some anti-hack software on your computer to help you block hack attacks.

If you fail to block a hack attack in time, you will lose days of time to find the Red Room, and sometimes you may also lose any notes you made in-game in the Notes app on your computer. Many players use a real-life pen and paper to make notes in order to counter this, but that’s how dirty little cheaters play. Don’t be a cheater, the game is more fun to play if you use the Notes area imho.

Adam will also give you a tutorial that includes how to block hacks when the game starts, should you decide to answer his Skype call.

If you find yourself struggling with the hacks, I would suggest purchasing the Hacker Mode DLC for the game as it’s super-cheap and it will allow you to play the hack mini-games as a separate game mode where you can practice your hack-blocking skills.

Did I say “hack” enough times yet? Hack.

It is also important to note that each hack becomes more difficult as you manage to block them consistently. Each hack also has a master level which can be reached by blocking each hack a specific number of times, and there are three achievements for reaching the master level on each type of hack. The master level is the most difficult level of a hack.

I should also point out that the hack achievements can only be unlocked during Normal difficulty in the main game and not in Hacker Mode.

I won’t explain how the hacks work as this is already fully explained in-game, but I will offer some tips for dealing with them. There are three types of hack attack to contend with:

DOS Blocker – Watch out for the arrows with black dots on them, they’re fake. Bear in mind that you have to pass through all blank nodes before you get to the end node (network symbol). This means you won't always be looking for a direct route to the end of the puzzle, sometimes you may have to take a more long-winded route to hit every blank node.

If you manage to block about 14 DOS hacks, you will unlock THE DENIER achievement once you receive your 15th DOS hack.

Kernel Compiler – Try to moderate your typing speed, type quickly but minimise typos where possible. If you make a typo, finish typing the complete text and then go back and fix the typos before submitting the text. If you see three or more lines that are long, type as quickly as possible.

If you manage to block around 17-19 Kernel attacks you will unlock THE DEVELOPER achievement once you receive your 18th-20th Kernel attack.

CloudGrid – Make diamonds and/or number fives (think of dice) out of the green squares. Start by putting a square in each corner and work outwards from there. Also note that you can't move cloud squares, but you can put other squares near them in order to make them moveable again. This may help if you can't find space to place a square.

If you manage to block about 14 CloudGrid hacks you will unlock THE CLOUD CHASER achievement once you receive your 15th CloudGrid hack.

Master level achievement numbers taken from: http://welcometothegame.wikia.com/wiki/Welcome_to_the_Game_Achievements

Remember to listen out for any suspicious noises in the background when you are blocking a hack.

Once you have gone through a hack attack, look out for the location marker on the grey taskbar at the top of the computer screen. If it appears, immediately turn off the lights and remain completely still. The location marker means that you have been tracked by the Kidnapper.

This icon will usually appear right after a hack attack, regardless of whether you blocked the hack or not.

Once the hack attack is over, listen out for any noises and also check the front porch to see if the Breather is there. If you heard noises and there's a white van but no Breather, turn off the lights for a moment.

When you are certain that the coast is clear, you should reset the modem to minimise the risk of being hacked again. Look at your modem and left-click to reset it. This will take about 15-20 seconds to complete.

Using the Gatekeeper to unlock the master level achievements

The quickest way to unlock the master level achievements is to go to the Gatekeeper website and intentionally fail the quiz in order to receive hack attacks. In my experience the Breather never visited me while I farmed hacks on the Gatekeeper site, and since I wasn't looking for Red Room codes the Kidnapper never visited either.

You can also save the game and continue later and you can still unlock these achievements, but if you get to day 30 or later the game will end. So try to block as many hacks as possible, even if you're only hunting one hack achievement as it could still hinder your progress.
Time
If you listen to Adam’s tutorial at the start of the game, he mentions the calendar and clock at the top-right corner of the screen:

  • Calendar- This will keep track of how many in-game days have passed. What Adam fails to mention initially is that you only have 30 days to find the Red Room before it closes, at which point you get a Game Over. This is later explained in a text file that silently appears on your computer’s desktop.

  • Clock- This is important as some websites are only active at specific time periods (i.e. The Illuminati website is only open from 3 AM – 3:45 AM). The clock will increase by 15 minutes every so often, and it will always start at 10 PM. Once it passes 3:45 AM the day ends and a new day starts. The game will also be saved automatically once a new day begins.

As you play the game you will notice when certain websites open or close, and I recommend figuring this stuff out for yourself to make the game more fun. However, if you feel like you've checked all available websites and you're still stuck on finding a Red Room code, here are the times when each website is online:-

(Bear in mind that the websites will reset once a new day starts. So after 3:45 AM the websites will go back to being online/offline depending on what time they open.)

Seized websites (Easter egg for 1.0 players)
These websites were in the original 1.0 build of WTTG but were then removed in the 2.0 update. They now appear as websites that have been seized by the authorities:

Cotton Road
The Bunker

Special websites (always open)
Come Find Me (secret page, no codes)
Last Chance (Red Room)
Welcome To The Game (WHERE AM I secret)

I took these website times from a guide called "Welcome To The Game 2.0 Tips" written by a user named MsChaCha, source: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=820857871
2) How to find the Red Room codes
Upon Welcome To The Game’s initial release, it could often be time-consuming to find the Red Room codes as you had no way of knowing which websites had codes until you actually saw the codes.

Thankfully with the 2.0 update, Adam has added in a subtle visual cue that will tell you if a website has a code on it or not.

When you visit a website in-game, you will notice the blue loading bar going across the Address bar at the top of your browser. If this blue bar stays on-screen for an extra couple of seconds after the page has fully loaded, this means there is a Red Room code on the page.

Once you have spotted this cue on a website, follow these tips to find the code as quickly as possible:

Start by just briefly looking at the website. Sometimes a code will already be present on-screen, and you just to have spot it and write it down in the Notes area.
  • Some websites will show the codes on top of an image/graphic, and the code will be coloured to blend in with its background. Be on the look out for these when searching suspect websites.

If you can’t spot a code on-screen, comb your mouse cursor over all text, images and graphics on the webpage to see if the cursor changes to a pointing finger icon.
  • When this happens, you have found a hidden button. Click it to reveal a Red Room code.

Once you have revealed a hidden Red Room code, it may appear somewhere on the webpage.

If the code does not appear on the website, it may have been saved to your desktop in a text file. You will need to double-click the file to open it and view the code.

Some websites will have multiple webpages (i.e. zeroDAY) and you will need to check all of them for a code.

If you are on an online store (i.e. Euro Firearms, Steroid Queen etc.) and there is both an ‘Order’ page and a ‘Buy Now’ button for each item, both of these will take you to the same webpage.

When combing text for a hidden code, look out for keywords relating to the context of the website as you can sometimes click these to reveal a code.
  • i.e. On the Loogaroo website, you can sometimes click the word ‘MOTHER’ at the top of the website to reveal a code.

If you’re struggling to find a code on a website, make a note of the website (either in the Notes or in your head) and leave it until last.

Once you have found a Red Room code, always write it down in the Notes area for later.

There are certain websites where it can be more difficult to find the hidden code. You will still be able to spot the visual cue, but these websites have their own complications:

Hail ♥♥♥♥♥
If you notice the visual cue once you enter this website, remember that the code will not be on the home page even though that’s where you’ll notice the visual cue. It will either be on the FAQ, Members or Links page.

Black Hat Post
If you figure out that the code is somewhere on the “Submit a Post” page, you will either need to click the $750 in the first sentence, or you will have to comb through the huge URL for a hidden button. If this is the case, I would find this code asap as it be can very time-consuming later on.

  • Remember that the longer you spend on this page, the more likely you are to be attacked by a hack.

Forgive Me
If you spot the visual cue on this website, you will need to look through each confession on the website until you find one that reads: “You will regret this – (insert code here).” You can move through confessions by clicking the “Next Confession” button.

  • In my experience I have never found a code on the “Confess” sub-page for this website, but I haven’t used this website a lot in-game so don’t hold me to it.

The Butcher
I have never found a Red Room code on this website since the 2.0 update, nor have I ever had the visual cue appear on this website and I have 29 hours of playtime. I would say that this website will never contain a code but I cannot guarantee this. The Butcher has several sub-pages to check for codes, so I would leave this website until last as it can take up a chunk of your time to examine it.
3) Choose your ending
Before you start the game you should decide which ending you want to get when you complete the game.

I will not spoil the endings here but you can always do a quick Google search if you want to see the endings before unlocking them for yourself.

If you’re going for the regular ending, then you don’t need to make any extra preparation before diving into the game.

WHO AM I

If you’re going for the secret ‘WHO AM I’ ending, you will need to find four secret notes and open them up at least once each on your desktop at any point before you enter the Red Room. These four secret notes will only appear on four specific websites and you can find them by clicking on certain hidden buttons on each page:-

  • NudeYouTubers – click each person’s nipples, Suzy Lu's foot
  • Greet MySisters – comb each image of the sisters for a hidden button, some examples:
o Pants zipper on dark-haired girl
    o Ginger girl’s foot/hand
  • Testical Mutilation – toes, sole of heels
  • Grandma’s Fantasy – grandma’s lips, nipples, picture of guy’s crotch, “Entry 5” sub-header

Here you can see what the secret notes look like. They will appear as text files on your desktop once you click the hidden buttons on the four websites listed above.

I would recommend finding the secret notes before you find the third random Red Room code if possible to avoid the Kidnapper spawning in while you are looking for the notes. Still watch out for the visual cue in case you stumble upon a code while looking for the secret notes.

Once you have found the four secret notes, make sure you open each one up at any point before you enter the Red Room. When you have done this, the secret ending will trigger when you press the ‘Enter’ link on the Red Room website and you will unlock the ‘WHO AM I’ hidden achievement.

WHERE AM I

If you’re going for the secret ‘WHERE AM I’ ending, you will need the URL to the secret “Welcome To The Game” website, which can be seen here:

http://43eb90937b34e13b35e78f518f19f468.ann

Copy the secret URL shown above and paste it into your Notes area in-game, as you will need this at the end of the game.

From this point onwards, you play the game as normal but once you have all eight Red Room codes, you now need to go the secret “Welcome To The Game” website using the above URL, and then enter the complete Red Room URL into the green box that appears on the website.

Once you do this, the secret ending will trigger and you will unlock the ‘WHERE AM I’ hidden achievement.

Shout out to @ridagreat1 on Twitter for finding the secret URL in a hidden box that Adam (game dev) left out in the woods in real life for the players to find, source: https://twitter.com/ridagreat1/status/797862456022487040

If you would like to know how this secret ending was discovered, please watch this video from a YouTuber known as RiskRim, he gave a detailed explanation behind this ending: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXcyUJmgehU
4) Preparing for the Red Room search

When the game starts, you will receive a phone call from your friend Adam on Skype. If you answer it, Adam will give you a tutorial on the game mechanics. If you hang up the phone, you skip the tutorial.

If you wish to see Adam's tutorial, remember that time will stop during the tutorial so you don't have to worry about losing days of progress or being killed by the Breather during this time.

Once the call is over with, open the Notes app and the ANN web browser.

Look through each website on Deep Wiki 1 and see if you can find two Red Room codes. Remember to write the codes down in the Notes when you find them.

Once you have found the first two codes, you now need to gain access to Deep Wiki’s 2 and 3. If you do not find the two codes, do not worry. We’ll solve that problem later.

In order to unlock Deep Wiki's 2 + 3 and find the third code you must visit the following websites:

  • ChosenAwake
  • Claffis
  • The Gatekeeper

These websites each have their own walkthroughs provided in the sections below.
ChosenAwake
Go to the ChosenAwake website and solve the puzzle to find the link to Deep Wiki 2.

To solve the ChosenAwake puzzle, you have to click a sequence of buttons disguised as shapes on the page, and it must be done in the right order.

First button will be one of the circle icons at the very top of the page.

Second button will be one of the small circles in a diamond formation underneath the text.

Third button is always the triangle in the middle of the waves underneath the previous two buttons.

Fourth button will be one of the hexagons in the right-hand image beneath the triangle.

Fifth button will be one of the circles at the right-hand side of the image beneath the hexagons.

Sixth button will be one of the stick-man figures beneath the fifth button.

Last button will either be one of the blue dots in the sphere diagram beneath the stick-men, or one of the two very top white dots in the image to the right of the sphere.

If you click a hidden button, a sound cue will play and the button will either change colour or a box will appear around it.

Once the puzzle is solved, a musical cue will play and the link to Deep Wiki 2 will appear at the bottom of the page. You can highlight this link as you would on your real computer and then copy and paste it into your Notes for later.

Remember that if you leave or refresh the page, the solution to the puzzle will change.

Chances are the Breather will call your phone while you are solving this puzzle as it can be time-consuming. If this happens, I recommend that you answer each call and hang up the phone immediately because once he has called you twice, it is likely that the Breather will soon appear at your front porch. This makes it easier to predict when you will need to secure the front door, but remember that he can sometimes call you more than twice before arriving at the house.
Claffis
Once you have the link for Deep Wiki 2, copy and paste it into the ANN browser.

You will find a link to the Claffis website on DW 2. Click on it.

In order to obtain the link to Deep Wiki 3, you must solve the Claffis puzzle;

If you click on the musical notes at the very top of the page, seven of the musical notes further down the page will play in a specific order. Each note will glow red as it is played.

  • You have to play these notes in the right order by left-clicking on them.

  • There are 13 notes laid out across three rows of musical bars, and each note has its own square.

  • The website will always play seven musical notes, and the order changes each time you click an incorrect note.

  • The best method of memorising the right order is to write it down as a string of numbers in the Notes area as the notes are being played to you.

o i.e. 6101271145 - this is the number string I have written in the Notes area in the above image. Since I know there are only 13 notes, and that only 7 of them will play, this makes it easy to see which numbers I have written down. Therefore the correct order is 6, 10, 12, 7, 11, 4, 5.

  • Once you have solved the puzzle, a musical cue will play and the link to Deep Wiki 3 will appear at the bottom of the page. You need to copy this into the Notes area for later.

If you leave or refresh the page, the solution to the puzzle will change.

If you solve the Claffis puzzle in one try, you will unlock the "IMPROVER" achievement.
The Gatekeeper
When you have unlocked all Deep Wiki’s, you should now be able to find a link to The Gatekeeper website on Deep Wiki 3. Click on it.

You need to solve the Gatekeeper quiz in order to obtain one of the Red Room codes;

  • The quiz contains questions about all of the websites you find on the Deep Wiki pages. You should explore the websites and memorise some of the key facts/keywords featured on the websites (or look up the answers outside of the game if you want to be a filthy cheater).

  • Alternatively, you can brute force the quiz and just keep on guessing the answers until you get the Red Room code. This is my preferred approach, although I do know some of the answers by heart.

  • Every time you click an incorrect answer, you will receive a hack attack from the Gatekeeper website. This may make the brute force strategy more difficult, which is why you should clear the Gatekeeper website early on.

  • Once you have received the first hack attack from Gatekeeper, you will continue to receive more hack attacks, sometimes before you even start the quiz over. If you get two hack attacks, you should reset the modem if possible.

Once you beat the quiz, the Red Room code will appear where the questions were originally. Write this down in your Notes.

You should now have three Red Room codes, and normally this will trigger the Kidnapper to appear. However, the Kidnapper will only appear once you have found three randomly spawned codes and since the Gatekeeper website always has the eighth code, it doesn’t count as a random code and will not trigger the Kidnapper to appear. This now means that you can get an extra code before the Kidnapper arrives, and this is why you should get the Gatekeeper code as one of your first three codes.

Just remember that once you get your fourth code, the Kidnapper will show up at the house.

If you didn’t reset the modem before you got the Gatekeeper code, I would strongly recommend doing so after you have written the code down and left the Gatekeeper website. Once you have visited the Gatekeeper website you have a much higher chance of being hack-attacked, even if you didn’t give any incorrect answers on the quiz.

Make sure that the Breather isn’t closing in on you before you reset the modem though.

If the Gatekeeper code is the first one you find, then don’t worry. You still need to find three random codes before the Kidnapper spawns, just watch out for Breather obviously.
5) Surviving on your way to the Red Room
Once you have unlocked all Deep Wiki’s and found your first three codes, you now simply need to search all remaining websites for the rest of the Red Room codes and then piece them together to make the Red Room’s URL.

As long as you use the points I have provided throughout this guide, you should be able to find the codes without too much hassle.

Here are a few extra tips to help you along:

  • Once both the Kidnapper and Breather have come into play, you do not want to keep the Breather at your door for too long. Always let the Breather see/hear you at the door so that he will attempt to force the door open, as this will allow you to get rid of the Breather much faster. This is vital as you won’t be able to juggle between the Breather and Kidnapper otherwise.

  • If you juggle the two enemies well enough, they will usually appear shortly after one another. So once you have gotten rid of the Breather, the Kidnapper is bound to turn up soon after and vice versa.

  • As soon as the coast is clear, reset the modem.

  • If you have most of the codes and are waiting for a specific website to open, start assembling the Red Room URL in the Notes area using the codes you have found so far. This will save time at the end of the game.

  • If you ever lose your Notes to a hack attack, you can remember which websites might’ve had codes on them as any links you have previously visited will be purple when you look at the Deep Wiki pages.
6) Entering the Red Room
Once you have all eight Red Room codes, you need to assemble them together in numerical order to make the Red Room’s URL.

Always make sure that you have ‘http://’ at the start of the URL.

Also make sure you have ‘.ann’ at the end of the URL.

Remember that if you are going for the ‘WHERE AM I’ hidden achievement, you need to enter the Red Room URL into the secret “Welcome To The Game” website mentioned earlier in order to unlock the achievement.

To speed up this process, you could copy a URL you already have on-screen and paste that into your browser. Then just delete all of the characters in between the ‘http’ and the ‘ann’ and replace them with the Red Room codes typed out in numerical order.

While this is going on, keep a sharp eye out for that location arrow, and listen very carefully for any noises that happen while you are putting the URL together.

Once you have entered the Red Room’s URL into your browser, you will be taken to the ‘Last Chance’ webpage. This is the front page of the Red Room website, and there will be two links labelled ‘Leave’ and ‘Enter’.

I’ve never clicked the Leave link before, but I could guess what it does.

Click the Enter link to access the Red Room live stream and complete the game. If you didn’t find the four secret notes before getting into the Red Room, you will get the regular ending and will also unlock the ‘REDRUM’ achievement.

If you found all four secret notes and opened them up on your desktop at least once each before getting into the Red Room, you will get one of the two secret endings and will also unlock the ‘WHO AM I’ hidden achievement.

If you entered the Red Room URL into the secret “Welcome To The Game” website, you will get the other secret ending and will also unlock the ‘WHERE AM I’ hidden achievement.

There is a bug with sites making noise after muting though it only happened to me once so I don't know what causes it.

I have noticed that there is one situation in which you cannot be attacked, and that's when being hacked, so if anything, even as annoying as the kernal attack is, you kind of want to get hacked (do be warned the kidnapper can still attack a few seconds after that so just turn off the lights for a few seconds after, don't know about the breather.) And not even the breather can attack until you get 3 codes (tho idk I've had like 6 calls and not once has he attacked me, and the one time he did he hadn't called anytime recently)

I can also confirm that they will start attacking after about ten days I think, (even if you got there because of failing hack blocks)

Whenever I played, the Breather always spawned in first with no van, so I always associated the van with the Kidnapper. I suppose it may be down to my play style of finding 3-4 codes early on? You also make some good points about the Breather, so thanks for that!

Great guide! Just a couple things to note:

The white van outside is NOT associated with the kidnapper, it is actually associated with the Breather as one of the audio cues for the Breather is a van door closing (what you referred to as the loud bang). However, do not think you are safe just because the van isn't there, both baddies can appear without the van being parked out front.

You also don't need to check outside for the breather, just hover your mouse over the door knob and if it says "hold" it means the breather is approaching. If there is no message that appears then you are safe to return to the desk.

Also, if you manage to find a lot of codes early on, there is a chance the breather can attempt to break in without calling you first and can be a scary game-over.
