XInput / Direct Input Emulation

What's the problem?

I have purchased games on Steam that refuse to respond to any controllers that I own.

Some research revealed that the underlying problem was with the difference between XInput and DirectInput.

TL;DR When a game is ported to Windows from XBox, they port it as Xinput compatible only. Controllers that are both popular and cheap are unfortunately also DirectInput.

The solution

“Xbox 360 Controller Emulator” allows your controller ( gamepad, joystick, wheel, etc. ) to function as an Xbox 360 controller. You could play just about any game using, for example, a Logitech Steering Wheel.

By adding this emulator's executable (32bit or 64bit, depending on the game) to the directory of the game executable, you can (usually) automatically create a "controller library" to translate your DirectInput to an XBox 360 controller's layout and language.
