How to import your Spore creatures into Blender for animating

A short guide to help you import your Spore creature into Blender with every joint.

Step 1: Colladaexport

To start, you need to export your creature from Spore.

We'll use the creature on the right as an example.

Now, in the creature creator, press Control (or CMD on a mac), Shift and C together to open the cheat console.

Type "Colladaexport" into the cheat console in paint mode, and accept everything.

Step 2: Importing the model into Blender

Now you have the model (and the textures) exported, open Blender.

Import your creature's "collada (dae)" file, and make sure you tick these checkboxes:
Then, when you import it, go to the "Texture paint" mode, to see if the textures are on the creature, or if you have to apply them yourself.

Step 2.5: Adding Textures

So, your creature's textures aren't on the model?

Don't worry. On the "slots" tab (in texture paint mode), change the painting mode to "Image", and look for your creature's textures. The name for every texture file is "(creature name)__diffuse".

Select the texture, and apply it to your model.

Step 3: Fixing textures

So you might notice that your creature's textures aren't fully visible.

This is easily fixed.

You might notice this small bar.

Click on the clock, and select "UV/Image editor".


Then, click on this small icon of a picture on a piece of paper, and select your creature's texture file. (note: your creature's texture file always starts with your creature's name, and it always ends in "diffuse".)



Then, drag the small plus icon on the right to the left to make a sub-menu visible.



Untick the checkbox saying "Use alpha", and then drag the bar down to hide it.
