First of all, Amadeus and String are amazing custom stories in their own right, but to claim that they exceed the Great Work and Obscurity is laughable. They contain a perfect gameplay-to-story ratio, where gamepley complements the story, instead of containing way too much of one aspect and very little of the other. SotR contains some compelling story and great voice acting, but there's barely enough gameplay to consider it a proper game, it's a walking simulator, and the length doesn't allow the game to reveal its full potential. Amadeus comes close to the Great Work in terms of the voice acting, the note writing style and the level design, but fades in comparison when it comes to the actual puzzle originality, ending variety and plot depth based on real history. Amadeus' last 30 minutes give almost no new information. String is awesome, however, it simply cannot compete due to its minuscule length, just like SotR.
Keep in mind that many way better mods have come out since this was posted, such as Amadeus, String, or Shadow of the Ramlord, they just haven't got as much recognition because they couldn't have possibly gathered as much reviews as the listed ones.
Amadeus, for example, was almost as good as MFP and way better than any of the mods on this list. Also, many of the mods here also have aged very badly. The standards for level design and custom assets weren't very good back then.
Cheers!

If you're wondering why, it's because of the ('s, since steam doesn't recognise this, they flag it as malicious. You're truely missing out on obscurity.
www.Moddb.com (which is where obscurity is uploaded @) is a site that scans their content and has a certificate saying htat it is safe, your connection is protected, and there is no malware. (Very similar to the "Valve Corp [US]" and the green padlock at the top.
Don't believe me? here's a link that valve wont flag.
