Where to download and how to install Vertigo Series for your Steam version of Descent 2

What is Vertigo Series?

Vertigo Series is an official add-on by Parallax Software for Descent II. It contains a new full-lenght campain with 23 new levels, 3 of which are secret, two new multiplayer game types, new music, enemies and boss AI.

DXX Rebirth

Firstly, you need to install DXX Rebirth mod for vanilla Steam Descent 2 version to run this add-on. You can download the mod from this site[www.dxx-rebirth.com]. Open the archive with WinRar or 7-Zip (I hope you can get them without my help), open D2X-Rebirth folder and drop all the files into your Descent root folder (default C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Descent). After that delete the default Steam shortcut, which opens dosbox, and change it for the d2x-rebirth.exe. Great! Now you should have DXX Rebirth working!

Where to get it?

Unfortunatelly, Vertigo Series is not included in GOG or Steam version of Descent 2, in contrast with Mercenary for Descent 3, and it is quite a problem to find this add-on in the Internet. And this is where my help comes.

How to install in?

After downloading is complete, open the archive with WinRar or 7-Zip, open folder and copy-paste everything to your Descent 2 root folder. Accept all replacements and mergers of the game files and it is installed (but back up the original files beforehead just in case).



Just launch Descent 2, click New Game, choose Descent 2: Vertigo and enjoy!

Vertigo Series Soundtrack

You will not hear Vertigo Series original soundtrack in the game because of the DXX Rebirth mod. But if you really want to, here is where you can download it and swtich as background music yourself.

Victoria super job on this, thanks. Up and running though screen res doesn't seem quite as crisp as D2. Still playable.

I never knew this existed, but I do remember getting some boxed product at some point. whatever version of D2 that specifically was, the only real difference I can truly recall is a different track order for the redbook audio stuff.


think there was a level editor as well, but it was something my 14 year old brain wasn't comprehending.

sorry i dont think i can get it. steam needs to include it and i cant seem to get this Descent Rebirth too. i have no chance getting it at all. sorry

I played D2 when it originally came out but I never heard about this expansion till I thought to look for D2 on steam. The Descent series has always been my favorite franchise, where else can you find a game with full 6 degrees of motion freedom. I remember reaching the end of a level in D2 and then noticing that I had done the entire level inverted :D

Thank ye for this. I have wanted to play Vertigo for years now after my disk copy was scratched up beyond recovery. Vertigo had some crazy fun secrets/puzzles besides the amazing core gameplay
