For me, the most complicated part of learning to mod this game was to find which setting is in which "ressource pack" - actually, I seem not to have finished this process yet, since some things I recently tried for myself didn't quite work out... :/
As for this patch here, it uses unit_elves.rpk and unitproperties.rpk ( well, actually only the latter one is required, the first was just needed to find which ability needed to be modified... ) .

I already liked them before - though adventurer start might be considered a bit overpowered if you get several wizards and driders in your starting group... ;)
They're a bit expensive to build, though (especially wizards' population-costs), so it's a good idea to keep them all alive then.
