"Bend it like Beckham" isn't just a catchy phrase, it was the truth. Nobody could curve a ball like becks, not even to this day. Because of this, Beckham's ability in deadball situations were unparalleled, with many being the deciding factor in several close games, both for Manchester United and the English national team.

Despite his unquestioned abilities though, Beckham's image became more like that of a celebrity than a footballer. Many, especially Sir Alex Ferguson, his manager for more than a decade, considered his celebrity reputation as a hindrence on his career. Even the fans and players at Real Madrid were expecting little from Beckham when he signed for them in 2003, seeing him as little more than a marketting strategy from the club's board. Still, he silenced his doubters through his determination and unparalleled ability to cross the ball.

For me, Beckham's prime was during the 2001-02 season, where although Manchester United lost the title to Arsenal and did very little in Europe, he managed to score 11 goals, the most in his career. This was also done in just 28 appearences due to an injury in the second half of the season, an injury some consider dubious, and an attempt at keeping him fresh for the upcoming 2002 World Cup.
