DEEP BASE 9 - Build self-sustaining bases all over the map with just 48 Inventory Slots
Bởi paoweeotter
Gather mats, build base on far edge of the map, run out of materials, gather more materials, build base again... I got tired of this process so I made this guide on how to build self-sustaining mini-bases with renewable food and water, plus a scanner room, with just one bag. Expand your territory and build everywhere.

EDIT: INTERIOR GROWBED COSTS 4 TITANIUM
NOTE 2. I don't have the time to edit everything again so i'm putting this here: Just bring an extra 2 titanium with you at all times :) Gudie starts below:

On self-sustainability
Eat what you plant, Plant what you eat. Plants give you food, water and fuel. If you want a self-sustaining base, build a garden ASAP! Plants take a while to grow but you can use a bed to "speed up" time and wake up to harvest ready plants.

Indoor Growbed
  • Lantern Tree - replenishes itself (4 slots)
  • Chinese Potato - pick up potatoes and plant the last piece (4 slots)
  • Marblemelon - place the melon and knife it to produce 4 seeds. replant (4 slots, 1 slot seed)
  • Bulbo Tree - similar to marblemelon. replant the last sample (4 slots)

Outdoor Growbed
More on this in the Forward Bases section
  • Gel Sac - similar to marblemelon but only provides 3 seeds. Doesn't decompose (1 slot)

OUTPOSTS
For Personal Inventory/Seamoth Builds.

Offering respite from the sea, these mini-bases provide food, water or oxygen breaks. Attach a Scanner Room to create an Outpost for finding wrecks, rare minerals or just to give you the lay of the land. I RECOMMEND building Outposts over Bases if you have no need for other amenities. They are quick, easy to build and can easily fit in your personal inventory.

A Marblemelon seed can be placed in a (1 slot) Plant Shelf. Put extra seeds from knifing the melon in a Plant Pot.

An Outdoor Growbed with a glowing Creepvine Cluster is useful as a flag/waypoint marker. Nice way to spot your supply depot in darker biomes with minimal sunlight.

  6. Interior Grow Bed - 2 Titanium
My favorite early game outpost when I don't have Seamoth/Plants yet. Has a Scanner and includes Fabricator for food/water. I added a Base-Attached Pump and some pipes for exploring the cavern underneath.

2 Titanium gives 5 Pipes and can extend 10 meters deep. To extend your pipe network 100m down you'd need around 20 Titanium.

12 slots left. You can build more Solar Panels if you need it, each costs 2 Titanium, 2 Quartz, 1 Copper. You can also bring 2 Lead and 2 Titanium if you want a Foundation for the panels.

Construct:
  1. Multipurpose Room - 6 Titanium
  2. Hatch - 2 Titanium, 1 Quartz

  6. Power Transmitter* - 1 Gold, 1 Titanium

EDIT 02/04/18:
No need to use a corridor to connect the Scanner Room to a Multipurpose Room. This will save a lot of valuable space especially for the Alien Containment Builds. Thanks @Patches! Updated and removed all Corridors from the guide :D

  3. Bioreactor - 3 Titanium, 1 Wiring Kit, 1 Lubricant
Additionally, bring 1 Fiber Mesh and 1 Titanium if if you want a bed to skip the night.

Bringing a spare tank in your inventory and equipping it will give you a fresh supply of oxygen.

FORWARD BASES
Builds requiring personal inventory + Seamoth, or a Cyclops.

Equipped with all the essentials needed for deep sea exploration, the forward base needs a full inventory to build and may require you to gather a few pieces to finish the interior (Titanium is usually the easiest). Amenities include a Scanner Room, a Fabricator, Water Filter, Plant Garden, and a Power Cell Charger.

Gel Sac

Gel Sacs are perfect for long diving missions because not only do they provide the most Food and Water per slot, they also do not decompose. Growing a garden requires a bit more time than the other plants but they are a renewable food source that doesn't expire. Fill your inventory with Gel Sacs and eat while you travel, freeing up storage space as you go.

Outdoor Growbeds

Outdoor growbeds can attract nearby schools of fish for easy cooking. This can be very helpful in deep locations where edible fish is rare and monsters not so much.

❀ Bio Base - Indoor Growbed
Uses Flora for fuel. You can use any plant you want. I prefer Marblemelons for their Water and aesthetic. You can build a bed to "speed up" plant growth.

  8. Fabricator - 1 Titanium, 1 Gold, 1 Table Coral
  9. Power Cell Charger - 2 Titanium, 1 Advanced Wiring Kit, 2 Ruby
  10. Reinforcement* - 3 Titanium, 1 Lithium (optional)
Place the Marblemelon in the Plant Pot then use your Knife to turn it into 4 Marblemelon Seeds. Replant the seeds again.

Search for fish or some plants to knife for Bioreactor fuel while you wait for your plants to grow

Despite the constant 1 Power, I was able to survive in this base for an hour living off of fish, marblemelon (garden) and the ocassional bottle of water. Once the filter makes 2 salt and 2 water, you can keep them there to stop production and then sleep to allow your bioreactor to build a surplus of energy.

☣ Bio Base - Alien Containment 1
A budget base that sacrifices the Fabricator, Water Filter and Power Cell Charger for the Alien Containment for a total of just 51 slots needed.

Reginalds are easy to pick-up and are ideal to breed as they provide 44 food and 1100 power each. Occulus are now the best single slot fish for fuel. They can be found in deeper areas of the ocean. See the wiki for more info.

The bio-reactor might require constant maintenance (refilling with what ever crap you can find) but it sorta doesn't. If you fill it up with fish, and then you also have solar panels on top of it, it will refill the entire energy bank so long as your usage isn't higher - the last Bio-reactor I built didn't ever need me to refill it again, because the solar panels kept the energy bank - including the 800 from the bio-reactor, full. The bio-reactor kicks in to refill, but they seem to drain very slowly if you aren't relying on the reactor itself to supply all the energy by itself; you can have a full bio-reactor almost indefinitely.

"Mini-bases"? :txsmug: ...Yeah, see.... we don't do "mini-bases" in my neck of the woods... WE BUILD RAPTURE! :txsmug:

I'm currently downsizing my base for energy. It will still have 2 bioreactors, but I have been planning on making bases in certain waypoints around the map.

Like legit, I could build a base in the lost river, using heat from the lava zone.

Also, Using clever ways, I can make bases that would work anywhere.

Another Outpost Idea I have is a Crashfish Breeder, where you can pick up crashfishes to use in a propulsion cannon as grenades.

There are many ways to play the game. You are free to build any way you want and mix it up if you get bored of running the same things in different playthroughs. Bioreactors also give a huge power bank (400 or 800 i believe in subnautica below zero) which makes it act as a sort of energy storage or battery when paired with other energy generators.

Solar panel gives +25 or +50?
