Summoner Guide (Simple)

This will be a short and simple guide on a summoners playthrough of terraria.

Introduction

DO NOT READ IF EXPERIENCED TERRARIA PLAYER
When you first get into the world it will be quite a while untill you get your hands on any summoner items (Unless you obtain a slime staff), Most likely you will have to use anything you can find to create armor and weapons untill you are ready to defeat the queen bee. I suggest using the amazon (yoyo), Cloud in a bottle and Gold armor.


Station = What station is the item crafted at.
Damage = How much damage the weapon does.
Knockback = How far the enemie is knocked.
Mana: How much mana is used to summon the minion (10 = 1 star).
Velocity: How fast the minion travels.

Each minion that is summoned is displayed on the right.

Staffs (Pre Hardmode)

Slime staff

If you are a lucky mother ♥♥♥♥♥♥ then you can get the slime staff from killing your 1st slime. Anyway there is a slim chance that you will get this weapon within the 1st hour of the game.

Hornet Staff

A little hornet that follows you doing damage and sometimes inflicting poison onto enemies. (Queen bee drops Bee wax).

Knockback: 2
Velocity: 10
Mana: 10

Imp Staff

Hellbringing fire imp to inflict burn damage onto enemies and high damage (for pre hardmode). Hellstone is a pain in the ass to get so i suggest using obsidian skin potion or a decent triple grapling hook like the vine whip.

Armor (Pre Hardmode)

Bee armor

The only summoner armor you can get pre hardmode... Summoner is a bit underpowered untill hardmode.

Recipie (Total): Bee Wax (30)
Station: Iron/Lead anvil
Defense: 13
Set Bonus: 10% increased minion damage + 3 total minions
Headgear: Bee Wax (8)
Breastplate: Bee Wax (12)
Greaves: Bee Wax (10)

Other (Pre Hardmode)

Bewitching table
The bewitching table adds an extra summon by right clicking it. This is a great thing to have next to your boss arena to get that extra power in those fights.
You can get the bewitching table by finding it in the dungeon or buying it later on from the witch doctor (Must also have wizard present to buy it).








I decided to leave out the summoning potion just because its such a hastle to create when all you get is an extra minion.

Starting Hardmode

As soon as you enter hardmode you want to go straight to a previously found spider cave or find one ASAP. When you enter hardmode you will be extremely underpowered and chances are you will die quite a bit.
Finding a spider cave means that you can farm spiders which drop spider fangs (the main ingredient for all early hardmode summoner items).
Once you have these items it is good to farm the wall of flesh untill you get a summoners emblem 25% drop chance.

Staffs (Early Hardmode)

Spider Staff

The spider staff is a must have to survive the early parts or hardmode. Combind this with the spider armor and you get 5 venomous spiders.

Fangs have a 100% droprate(75% normal mode).
Damage: 26

Velocity: 10
Mana: 10

Queen Spider Staff

This staff is great to use when mining. You just place your queen spider down where the mobs are while you stay in a safe place not having to do any of the work.

Acts as a sentry.
Damage: 26
Knockback: 7.5
Velocity: 14
Mana: 10

Pirate Staff

I like to compare this staff to the slime staff. You have quite a low chance from it dropping.

Pirates are cute.
Drop rate from Pirates 0.05%
Drop rate from Flying Dutchman 1%
Damage: 40
Knockback: 6
Velocity: 10
Mana: 10

Armor (Early Hardmode)

Spider Armor

Again you just have to go to a spider cave to get this armor.

Recipie (Total): Spider fangs (36)
Station: Iron/Lead anvil
Defense: 20
Set Bonus: 12% increased minon damace + 4 minions or 5 spiders

Forbidden Armor

Fossil armor is actually pretty cool. You double tap down arrow to summon a sand tornado. Also it gives off a glow like the mining helmet.

Recipie (Total): Forbiden fragments (3 kill sand elementals) + Titanium / Adamantite Bars (46)
Station: Iron/Lead anvil
Defense: 26
Set Bonus: 15% increased minon damace + 3 minions

Other (Early Hardmode)

The mechanical bosses and planterra

The mechanical bosses are quite easy as a summoner because your summons are quite good at hitting their target. The destroyer easy as it sounds is probably the hardest for a summoner because your minions wont pearce through multiple segments (besides the queen spider staff). Make sure you have spider armor.
I did skip pre planterra items because the only item is the optic staff (ill display stats below)

Optic Staff

Recipie: Soul of sight (20) + Hallowed Bar (12) + Lens (2) + Black Lens (1)
Station: Mythril / Orichalcum anvil
Damage: 30
Knockback: 2
Velocity: 10
Mana: 10

Staffs (Before Planterra)

Raven Staff

Has a round a 3% chance from dropping from pumpking. Personally i have never got this item.
