How to: Cheat

The alternative to "Get gud." Includes Immortality, Opening ANY Timed Door, and more.

Introduction

In before anyone starts crying about cheating - if you don't like it don't use it, thanks.

We will be covering how to use Cheat Engine to freeze your HP at a ridiculously high number to avoid one shot damage even with 3 boss cells injected as well as how to reset the timer.

How to: Never Die

First start up the game then start up Cheat Engine and click the button in the top left corner that looks like a computer labeled "Select process to open." In the new popup window switch from the "Applications" tab to the "Processes" tab. Next, find and select "deadcells.exe" then click "Open." The top bar of the main Cheat Engine window should now read "deadcells.exe"

Go ahead and switch back to the game window and start up a run, when you have a health bar in game, switch back to Cheat Engine and search for the value of your HP - that is type in eg 100 and click "First Scan," (making sure the "Value Type" entry is set to the default of "4 Bytes") then switch back to the game and do something to change your current HP eg get hit once, pickup a scroll, drink a healing potion if you are not at max HP. Switch back to Cheat Engine and search for the new HP value - type in the new value eg 1 and click "Next Search." If the list is down to just one entry you can skip the next search, if there is still more than one entry in the list repeat the process of going in game and changing your HP value and "Next Search"ing that value one more time.

Once Cheat Engine has only one row entry listed in the search results table, double click it to save that address. You can now set your HP to anything you'd like; I find that 3000 will make you immune to basically everything. Do this by double clicking on the "Value" in the lower table and changing it from the current value to eg 3000. You can then freeze this value by clicking the box so that it has an X in it. This will make it so you simply cannot die for the rest of the current run unless you get cursed; so just do not break open presents or cursed chests or purchase the Cursed Sword and you'll be invulnerable.

You can apply this same technique to edit your gold and cells if you so desire.

Just remember to UNlock your HP value after defeating the Assassin and before exiting the Wharf or you might crash the game; this is because the game changes where it stores these values between runs and tries to access a block of memory that you have locked down. Do not fear if you DO crash the game tho; your save will be just fine.

How to: Open ANY Time Locked Door

Editing time is a little different than editing other values, this is because it is stored as a "double" instead of being stored as "4 bytes." So start out the same way you would as if you were going to edit your HP, but instead set "Value Type" to "double."

Now you need to do some math; while standing infront of the time locked door note your current time then pause the game by hitting escape. Convert minutes into seconds by multiplying by 60 and add in your remaining seconds eg 5m 33s converts to 300+33=333 - this is the value you search for eg 333. Go back in game and let a second pass by then pause it again and search for 334 this time. Repeat till only one value is listed in the search results and edit that one to be eg 0.

This will lock you out of your CD trinkets if you've used them since picking them up, but you get to loot every time locked room so I consider it a fair trade off.

How to: Exploit RNG Mechanics

When you spend cells on a blueprint you are given the item for that one run and the item is added to your random loot tables, that is it. You do not get to use that item at the start of subsequent runs unless it spawns as one of the RNG items. This means that unlocking all the blueprints you pickup gimps future runs if they are bad items by diluting the loot pool. Thus by all means, collect all the blueprints, but only spend cells on the REALLY good items, you can spend cells on all the mutations tho since they are not selected via RNG.

This means you should only spend cells on mutations, the default unlocks eg Recycling and Saving gold between runs, and in the Foundry to buff up the items you HAVE added to the loot pool. In this way you make ALL the items in the loot pool buffed up and viable LONG before someone who unlocked all blueprints as they got them would.

There will come a time when you don't want to spend cells on anything the Collector is offering, at that point just attack the cell door to proceed; you do not need to spend all your cells to get out of that room.

If you unlock an item by mistake there is no going back so make sure to backup your saves before spending your cells unlocking any item, they can be found at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<yourSteamID>\588650\

Conclusion

You can use these cheats to easily get achievements like...

What? There's nothing wrong with these...
= Finish the game with the starter sword, bow or shield.

Speedy Gonzales!
= Open your first timed door.

Never fallen
= You finished the game with "Ygdar Orus Li Ox" in your possession!

Harder Better Faster Stronger
= You finished the game with three Boss Source Cells injected


But because this achievement is unlocked upon defeating the Assassin, you CAN NOT use these cheats to uinlock:
I like to live dangerously…
= Against all odds, you finished the game with the Cursed Sword!

Cheat tables only work with specific versions, you have to make sure the one you have is for the right platform and version number of the game you have or there is no guarentee it'll work

I tried to use one of the cheat engines (.CT files) and whenever I tried to activate one of the cheats the cheat engine just stopped responding for a couple of seconds.
