Intro
Scope:
Covers the blueprints in the legacy version of the game and where to find them.

Editor's notes:
This list is not 100% complete, it is simply a list of all blueprints that I have found during 2 playthroughs and documented where they are and what they do.

Reforced edition has come out and changed a lot so if you are playing that then this is most likely not accurate anymore.

Unit Upgrade Blueprints
What the permanent unit upgrade blueprints do so you'll know if it's worth getting them.

Notes:
  • Enhanced damage for all human units does not change damage at all, instead it raises damage RESISTANCE of all types. All enhanced damage upgrades that do this have been marked with ** and the amount that is increased.
  • Unit Research is listed separately from the permanent upgrades.
  • Cost reduction is listed as the amount that is removed from the price, not what the unit costs post upgrade.
  • Some damage upgrades either do nothing or boosts attack speed so little you need a stopwatch to time it
  • If you are so inclined you could farm the tier 3 human enhanced damage upgrades on the eye second and third visit but because of the AI catapult spam I haven't done so because I don't need that sh*t in my life.
  • X is missing data

Building Upgrade Blueprints
What the building upgrade blueprints actually do incase one or two people care...

Notes:
  • Don't currently bother with these except for reinforcement upgrades for defensive towers. This feature is very incomplete with many upgrades seemingly doing nothing and like 90% of building speed upgrades are not accessible without cheating.
  • If you look in the game files you'll notice that some "Building speed" upgrades are supposed to increase storage capacity but they are nowhere to be found in the campaign. Similar to "enhanced damage" for units the name is misleading.
  • To buy the blueprints you need to find the smith(s) of the corresponding race. Details on where are further up in this guide.
  • Cost reduction is listed as the amount that is removed from the price, not what the building costs post upgrade.

    Building Research:
Building HP upgrades are cumulative so with all three upgrades you get +75% building HP based on the buildings base HP.

Grinding for blueprints
I realize this might be too much of a wall of text for some people but I assume you are dedicated enough to finding something specific if you are reading this that it won't stop you from my poor presentation. If you already know the basics then just skip the general information section entirely.

General Information:
Why you might ask. The answer is simple: Small, permanent upgrades for units.

You can grind for somewhat specific unit upgrades by repeatedly killing a specific unit for one of the three playable factions. Each time you kill one there is a small chance that they will drop one of the three unit upgrade blueprints(reinforcement, cost reduction, damage). The damage blueprints are very rarely sold by merchants or found as static loot in chests so I have some tips on specific grinding spots incase you really want to maximize a few specific units for your favorite faction.
To have the greatest chance of getting them it should be on a map where the unit you are looking to upgrade is used by the enemy and respawn almost infinitely and even better it should be easy to afk farm them.
I'll try to have a detailed explanation on how to do it on each unit and if it is afk farm friendly or not.

The purpose of these techniques I've tried is to get the blueprints but some of them also provide a significant gold or xp gain. I may or may not do an xp grind guide at some point but you will not find it right here as that is outside the scope of this guide.

Note that unit variants DO NOT drop unit upgrades for the unit they are based on. Examples: Purity Lancewielder does not drop human halberdier upgrades, Deathmen Wanderer does not drop Elven Wanderer upgrades and Utruan infantryman does not drop human infantryman upgrades. So it needs to be the exact same unit as is available to the player for it to drop blueprints.
Also since they are a separate unit, the upgrades don't work on them either.

It does not have to be YOU that kills the unit for it to drop blueprints. AI vs AI fights can result in drops too. Example: Iskander loyalists vs Sentenza's soldiers.

Remember to switch to EASY difficulty if you are afk farming. it helps massively with survivability and does not lower the xp per kill but there might be a little bit less enemies spawning.

The Elves are the least grind friendly faction because they are so rarely among your enemies on the various missions and they never have certain elf units meaning you can so far never get elven warden enhanced damage for example... without cheating.

Q: You mention aura-stacking sometimes what does it mean?
A: I use that term to describe the idea that you use as many powerful auras as possible on your different heros to maximise their efficiency while afk since you can not use activatable abilities while afk. Auras of particular note are Respite rank 2 or 3, Unleash Wrath 3, Demoralize 2, Perseverance and Call to arms 3
Q: You mention second and third visit sometimes how do I know when that is?
A: If it is a map you have been to before but you return to it as part of a new quest and the map is terra incognita again even though you have explored it before then you know it is your second or third visit. Some small or more significant changes to the terrain usually occur between visits.

Elves:
Elven Ranger and Elven Novice: Liannon. These elven units will frequently and infinitely respawn in groups of 2 novices and 3 rangers as long as they have their HQ in the sector immediately in front of the front gate to the city of Liannon AND there are no guards at the gate. So the key is to intercept them before they reach the gate, kill them and don't enter the city so that new guards keep spawning and running to guard the gate. They will also train units at the grove as long as they have the resources but the HQ spawning gate guards are free and spawn forever.
AFK Farmable: Yes, very much so. If you conquer the sector to the east of that you can build towers to help you swiftly eliminate the elven guards that spawn, I recommend defensive stance on your tankier heros close to the towers so that they get targeted instead of the towers since they will regenerate health in between spawns while the towers do not auto repair themselves.
Before you take the sector you need to wait for them to build a few things and maybe kill a couple of workers carrying wood so there is enough wood there for a logging cabin to get you started.

Humans:
Arsonist: and Recruit: Several good maps for this grind particularly Iskander Wilds.
AFK Farmable: Yes, very much so. Build as many towers as possible at your desired defensive positions and place some heroes or other units in defensive stance nearby and watch infinite and frequent waves of arsonists and recruits run up and die. After some hours you should have multiple copies of all 6 different blueprints waiting for you to pick them up.

Can also be done on Leafshade with lower efficiency.

Infantryman, Halberdier, Scout, Arbalist: Iskander Wilds: As long as they have iron they will keep recruiting them.
AFK Farmable: Yes, for a limited time. Same setup as above or at the bridge since then the AI will have access to more iron.

Arbalist, Halberdier, Scout: Windwall Foothills: The Bane Faction which is separate from Purity recieves iron for free through scripting IF you play on hard or higher difficulty and so will produce these units forever regardless of iron access on the map.
AFK Farmable: Yes. Destory the Purity HQ then fortify the border near Bane's base. Keep in mind their heroes have knockback abilites which might displace your soldiers that are standing ground.

Mentalist: , Champion: and Keeper: The Eye, second visit: Will respawn for a long time(as long as the AI enemy has aria and/or arya production buildings?) and be a part of some attack waves but will primarily be used defensively. If you run your hero party and/or army into one of purity's bases they will usually swarm to you from all over the map with everything he has including tons of catapults and some mentalists. Be prepared for high burst damage from their many ranged units especially the catapults. Stun Immunity, Restore 3 and other white magic spells highly recommended.
AFK Farmable: No, catapults will eventually ruin everything.

Catapult:
Iskander Wilds: Post second visit. House Utruan will infinitely respawn although somewhat slowly(every 3ish minutes) in the NE corner of the map on the road with a group of utruan arbalists and utruan infatrymen and one catapult every wave. They move all over the map and attack the green AI if not intercepted. Recommended that you also eliminate the purity lightbringer on the map so that their spawns stop otherwise they might cause lag later on by constantly swarming to the green HQ and bumping into each other instead of fighting.
AFK Farmable: Yes, but slowly. Position your hero party on the road slightly spread out but close to the map border so that they are too close for the catapult to fire. I recommend AE magic weapons and aura-stacking. I only included this because it is the safest catapult farm I have found.
Grinding for blueprints (orcs)
Goblin Scoundrel, Orc Wargrider, Orc Brute, Orc Spearwielder, Orc Hunter, Orc Ravager: Foot of Barga Gor first visit: Infinite respawns. Mainly, goblins, wargriders and ravagers(as long as iron lasts) with the rest sprinkled in occasionally. Play on normal or a higher difficulty for an almost constant neverending stream of enemies moving towards your HQ after the AI gets situated properly and conqueres a few sectors.
AFK Farmable: Yes, but it is a bit more tricky how you setup to achieve long term safety since there aren't many good places to build and the orcs tend to vary where they go at least in the early stages. If you hold out for some time you can get the enemy to send 90% of their troops at only one location and then fortify it like I did here. Respite 2 pretty much required since the frontline defenders will almost never be outside of combat. Berserker armor is also a big help if you put it on a main tank at the AI's favored attack location(see pic 2).

Can also be done very safely but with lower efficiency on Farlorn's Hope if you only need goblin & wargrider.

To those who are looking for blueprints in reforced they are now sold by the merchants found in the nexus who you will encounter as you go through the main story you will need the barter skill (from the main character) to level three however as some of the more rare blueprints are locked behind this skill hope this helps (I managed to completely upgrade the human faction with those blueprints and some found during the campaign)

@TheDarkRuler I'm not planning on doing it myself but you have my permission to copy/paste the info in this guide if you want to add it to the wiki.
