Heinkel He-277 "Amerika Bomber"

The He-277 was a German heavy bomber that was built in response for the need of an "Amerika Bomber". It was a derivative of the He-177B, intending to provide a more reliable bombing platform with greater range. Besides its payload of 3000kg, it was to carry a guided anti-ship bomb, either a Fritz X or an Hs 293, this particular one with the latter. Nothing much came out of the project, as Nazi Germany began to fall, and the coming of the jet age made it unlikely to be viable in combat. Only 3 prototypes were ever constructed, and the project was cancelled in April of 1944.
