How to build a weapon system (Part 2 of 2)
By Needo
In this guide I'll show you how to make more advanced weapon system and utilize it with your vehicle. This is part 2 in a 2-parter guide, and in this second part of the guide I'll focus on weapon systems that can be build later in the game. You can find part 1 of the guide here (video format here). In addition this guide uses the vehicle I made in the first guide: How to build a basic vehicle (Link to guide or link to video guide). You can also watch thecurrent guide in video format here.

Intro
Hi. I’m Needo from Mechanic Miner and in this guide I’ll show you how to build advanced and customized weapons and how to utilize them with your vehicle. The crafted parts in this guide requires resources you’ll get later in the game - if you’re looking for a guide on creating weapon system in the start of the game, you should look at part 1 (video format link)

As always we will use the vehicle I build in the first guide in the series.

If you’re unsure how this vehicle works, you should watch the first guide called: “How to build a basic vehicle” (video format link)
Setting up a Sawblade and adding more
The first thing we are going to build is a Sawblade. The Sawblade requires a rare resource called: Manganese, to be build. Also you will need to setup a new system for powering the Sawblade.

Let us start by creating that system. You will need:
  • A new Boiler,
  • A new Engine
  • A Switch.
This time I will create the iron version of the these parts. Then create a good accessible spot for the parts, and place them. Notice how I’m placing the parts so they connect automatically without additionally use of cables or pipes. Provide the new boiler with water and wood, and test if the Switch is working.

Now we will have to make a good spot for the Sawblade. Make sure you make room for belts to be connected from the engine to the sawblade.

Place the Sawblade at the edge. Create some belts and connect the Sawblade to the new engine. Click the Switch using E and the Sawblade should run if it’s connected correctly. As long as the Switch is turned on, and the boiler has wood and water for steam, the Sawblade should turn around automatically so you can drive your vehicle meanwhile.

It’s possible to add any amount of Sawblade to your vehicle, just attach them to the belt setup you just made. But remember that Sawblade requires Manganese, which is not easly obtainable.

Creating your very own unique weapons
Now I'm going to show you an alternative way to create your very own customized weapons. Before starting I'll just remove the Sawblade and from my current setup.

How you would like your customize your weapons, is really up to you, but I’ll show you one way to do it. First I’m going to create some iron couplings - but you can also use copper couplings if you like. Place the couplings on the front of your car where the Sawblade used to be. Now we have a place to attach a weapon.

So let’s create the weapon. Start by placing a coupling anywhere next to your vehicle. Let it fall to the ground. Now use planks to make a cross around the coupling. Let’s make it 3 blocks long on each side.

Now we’re going to add Spikes to the cross. There are two kind of spikes - normal spikes and steel spikes. We’ll use normal spikes for this, since steel spikes requires Manganese and normal spikes only requires copper and zinc which is easily obtainable. Create at least 12 spikes and place them on the cross like this, remember you can turn parts around using Z. You might also have to use your multitool to turn the cross around.

Once the Spikes are placed. Pick up the weapon using your multitool. Be sure that your cursor is over the coupling when picking it up. Now lift it to the end of your line of couplings on your vehicle - when the block turns green - release the mouse, and the the weapon should be connected to the coupling.

We will just need to connect the belts like we did with the sawblade to make it work. Once it’s connected - try clicking the switch. Now you have your very own customized weapon.

Other ways to do it
Although this weapons functionality is basically like a Sawblade. Making weapons using this method will allow you to make very unique weapons. Like tehse ones for example:

THE BIG SPINNER

THE WACHY SLAMMER

THE GROUND GRINDER
Can be made without Engines or Boilers!

THE GOODBYE-TA-PULT

That was it for now. Good luck designing and building some crazy deadly steam-powered machines! We would love to see your inventions and customized weapons, so be sure to share them on our forum.

Greetings
Needo

Rip. Melee weapons dont work like they should. Putting spinners on either side of the craft is doing so little damage, its almost not worth using. The only way they do good damage is if youre moving. It seems like the faster the craft is going, the more damage spikes do, but if youre sitting still, and the spinners are on, they do almost no damage. Seems like the spinners are considered not moving, so they do no damage.
