You can start by buying just 2-3 tools and once you sell your mats, you'll have enough gold to buy double the amount of tools! It's a nice way to get started :)
I used to sell misc items before and while some were expensive, it took ages to sell. Mats go like cupcakes
If you end up farming mats that others have, I recommend violet powder and silk. I sell out almost every weekend! People buy in bulks, it makes me angry sometimes (because it takes so long to farm them) Like, nobody taught you to leave some for others? LOL
You can also take advantage of seasonal events, as they frequently require Flour. So that's a good time to sell that; 500-700g each
Some people will use hunter to farm. If you can 1-hit things, it's very convenient. Personally I use dancer aoes since I just go to FFC or the rats... But I still prefer selling mats in my stall. I can afk and still make money xD
