The 6X6 Housing Unit
In Kingdoms and Castles, a primary challenge is efficient housing.

How do we maximize population while also keeping happiness high?

A simple solution to this problem is to find a small, efficient system which you can easily replicate. The 6X6 housing unit is one example of this kind of system.

In the 6X6, 8 manors are arranged in a square. The middle portion of the square then gets a well, a library, and a tavern. The 6X6 grid is then surrounded by roads or bridges. In this configuration, every manor in the unit has access to roads, a well, a library, a tavern, and a neighbor.

In the first few years after construction, average house happiness in a unit will hover in the 70s if you're using a 2g tax rate. As the library gains knowledge, happiness will go into the 80s.

You can build the 6X6 over and over again for reliable and steady expansion of population, and it creates a visually pleasing consistency to your kingdom as well.

Finally, make sure to use manors rather than hovels or cottages, because manors house more people and generate more tax income. Enjoy!
