The best mastery combinations.
If you are new to the game and are just picking it up for the first time and are struggling to find the best masteries to help you beat the game I have put them in a list of the most powerful combinations, corralating to their difficulty and how tricky they are to get right.

Most Powerful:
1; Brigand. Rogue and Hunter.
Very good for bows and spears, can deal insane DPS but doesn't scale to well into legendary.
2; Harbinger. Warrior and Dream.
Easy DPS and insanae crowd control, very difficult to avoid dieing.
3; Paladin. Storm and Defence.
Very fun class as you are strong enough to survive most encounters and deal enough damage.
4; Conqueror. Warrior and Defence.
Makes for a great combination of defence and damage (as you would except) and allows you to easily not die, but kill everyting in your path.
5; Slayer. Warrior and Hunting.
Use two of the new throwing weapons, or a bow and you can mix and match the passives to create a really powerful build.
6; Templar. Defence and Dream. (Thanks to Smyte)
Has great passives; like psi-touch and phantom-strike. Choosing dream first gives you an easy damage boost and boss defeating capabilites. 2 Spells, right and left click (psi-touch, phantom strike) 2 Toggles and your classic defence passives should give you a strong fighter and survivable character.
7; Spellbinder. Defence and Spirit. (Thanks to Dyer1981)
He recommends raising Spirit up to maximum level, getting the Death chill aura and large minion, and enough passives from defence, like the armour upgrades and rally to stay alive and let your minion do the rest. Alternatively you could get the Lich King and do the same thing, but build a little more to fight for yourself as well.

These are the best starting classes to go for, but everything works very well as long as you put your points correctly. Focusing on your damage and survivability and not learning TOO many spelll to quickly. Limit yourself to about 2 toggled passives, 3 spells and an infite amount of passives and self buffs. I have completed the game without even casting spells so don't worry about not doing any big colourful spells, you simply don't need to.

Here are afew alot more powerful (then the most powerful) mastery combinations, but they require a little more skill and you need to build a lot more specifically. So I thought I would put them in a seperate section so you don't ruin your day and use a ridicolous combination that needs some tuning to work.

Even More Powerful:
1; SoothSlayer. Nature and Spirit.
This works great for killing entire hordes, bosses and not even needing to swing a weapon or fire a bow. (So works great for the only 100 Kills on your counter Achivment) Besides that it is ridicously powerful. But you need to skill some specific things in a specific order.
  • Firstly learn nature mastery.
  • Secondly learn your Wolves and your heal. (Both on the bottom bar) Upgrade these so that the wolves are at level 6 and the heal at level 4.
  • Then you just pour all your points into the wolves untill you have 2 level 16s wolves.
  • By this time you should choose your second mastery, of spirit.
  • Now you need to skill into your Lich King and upgrade your heals.
  • After that your big abilities that you will need (much later on) are the totems and deathchill aura in spirit.
Do it in that order as well as getting lots of 'Bonus to all pets' items and skill upgrades for both masteries and you should be able to have a very strong pet build.
Loot and Levels.
Loot:
As a rule of thumb I would say to only pick up Gold gear until about level 25 then only Green and Blue. To save yourself time and inventory space, but you can pick up everything and sell it in order to have enough money to buy your own gear and not just rely on monster drops.
Also another rule of thumb is to ALWAYS pick up health and energy potions, you can never have enough of them, but make sure you are getting the ones for your level, not the weaker ones that will only heal a fraction of your health.
Another tip if you are struggling on bosses or mobs in general is to farm a slightly weaker boss untill you aquire some high level Blue (Rare) items for your character to use.
Also try and use weapons and armour that increase the damage type that your masteries deal, so use fire weapons with Earth and Lighting with Storm ect. (you will pick up the best combos as it goes along) try to also limit yourself to about 3 Damage Types at maximum, not including physical that is.
Use Regeneration: Don't forget items with added Health Regeneration and Health Regeneration %. They allow you to survive way easier and completely ignore damage (that isn't a one shot that is) I have made characters purely out of regeneration and retalation who get their entire health pool back in about 3 seconds.

Levels:
Unless you are speed running, (which if you are a beginner I would strongly advise you not to do) always stay a level or so above the creatures you are fighting, just to avoid sudden death and unfair fights. You can do this by collecting some +Xp items or simply farming the mobs of your same level. So that the game is alot easier and more beginner friendly.
Most bosses will always be a higher level then you, if they are not then you can fly through them, but if you find yourself being killed all to easily I would reccomened farming back up some place else.
Tips, Tricks and thing to look out for.
Tip Number 1:
Do not have two weapons on your weapon switch. Unless you are abit more experienced it is quite hard to keep a balance of your abilities and masteries with two seperate weapons, especially later in the game. Stick to being a one trick pony and really captiviating on that one weapon.
Tip Number 2:
Use your Merchants and do the side quests. These offer easy loot and levels to allow you to keep on par with your enemies and avoid being killed easily.
Tip Number 3:
As you progress later into the game and reach Epic or Legendary difficulty new bosses previously unseen will appear. Unless you are very powerful I would AVOID Them. The Mantricore, Hydra and Bone Dragon are three very lethal and tedious bosses if you are on your first run through.
Tip Number 4:
Only build one left click passive. Not ever mastery has one as it is, but don't make the mistake of skilling two of them. You can only use one at a time and loose the overall impact of having either. Stick to one at a time. (Unless you have a bright idea and want to try it)
Tip Number 5:
If you need a helping hand on a boss. Add me on steam and I will help you to kill that boss. (That is that we are online at the same time) I have in the past had many a struggle with killing Typhon and Hades and always go hunting down in multiplayer someone to help me defeat said bosses, so I am willing to do the same for you.

how to start epic option

Just wanted to write the same. Soothsayer requires experience and it's not easy to go with it. Very gear depending. Pets are usually die on boss fights making complicated to deal with them.

Mhm, I'd say Soothsayer is more an advanced build (as in not a Starter), considering it requires good items to make pet build work against act bosses. Pet AI is also not that good.

I've found Skinchanger |[Rune + Nature]| very straightforward and on first run goes straight to Epic. Works both as Dual Melee and Thrower (the latter especially with legendary throw weapons dropping a ton in Epic). Nature for the cheap heal and health bonus.

Champion |[Warrior + Nature]| pretty much same as Skinchanger, except better as Dual Melee (combo's) and less flashy, but really straightforward. Nature again for cheap heal and health bonus. With Brennus |[Epic Ragnarök set]| it's very stronk.

Sidenote: above mentioned classes are my 2 mains; Nature heal |[Regrowth]| is on RMB so it will instantly healself when pressed (make sure to stop attack for .5s), instead of needing a target (like when you have the skill on skillbar). If in need of even more heal, can always pop a HP potion.
