Building a Triple Sky Castle
De the merkin jerk
This guide walks players through the thought process and steps necessary to build a mega sky castle. This guide assumes the player has already played the in-game tutorial. Lastly, this guide explains building a mega sky castle as if you were playing on the level 'Peaceful Valley'.

IMPORTANT! A new section has been added for those who don't want to read through the entire process. It won't teach you how to think algorithmically but it will give you a tenative idea on how to plan your buildings out. Just jump straight to the Example Build Order section. I still suggest reading through the other sections, especially the Building section as it deals with things you'll still need to deal with (like bad RNG on item spawning, something that you need to be able to deal with).

Another new section with this update is an added screenshot section with descriptions pointing out certain things I've mentioned in the guide to help visualize it.

Thank you for reading and happy building!

Terminology
As I will be using my own terminology in this guide, I will list the terms I use here so everyone has a full understanding of what I mean by certain terms.

Item - This can mean any useable item, this includes items from the store, your backpack, and the item that is generated each turn (i.e. grass, bush, crate).

Active item - This is the item that is currently ready to be placed.

Spawned item - When you use your active item, the next item generated is the spawned item.

Backpack - The backpack is the storage for items you buy and for items obtained from your city.

Store - The store where you buy additional items.

Map - The current level you are on.

Square - A specific square on the grid.

Move - A move is the act of placing one specific item on the map. Interchangeable with placement.

Completing - The act of completing a set of three items to make a higher tiered item. For example, I place three grass adjacent to one another to complete a bush.

Hut -
House -
Mansion -
Castle -
Tower -
Preparation
Although it is not absolutely required, making preparations for a triple sky castle run can greatly curb the difficulty and help combat bad luck. The best way to stock up on items is to just play any level on Triple Town, while frequently going between your current level and your city to harvest your city production buildings and maximize your gains. Here are a few items you may want to stock up on:

Crates - These store one item and are consumed after they have stored the item and been reopened. These are very handy for when you have multiple crystals. Since crates are very expensive, these are best obtained via harvesting your city buildings.

Time Machine - Although I personally don't use Time Machines on Peaceful Valley, it can be extremely helpful for planning your upcoming placements.

Undo last move - These can be extremely helpful if you make an accidental move. Sometimes completing a building on the map can be very detrimental to your overall strategy, thus having the ability to undo a move can be quite the lifesaver.

Fortune Cookie - You're bound to get fortune cookies from your capital city, and these can be quite handy, especially in situations when open space is at a premium and knowing where you need to place and item is essential.

Gold - The more gold the better, being able to buy grass, bushes, trees, huts, and crystals is very helpful. For a first time triple sky castle run, starting with over 10,000 gold would be recommended.
Planning
Planning on how to build a triple sky castle is just as important as the actual act of building a triple sky castle. A good plan should entail where every single building (from hut, onwards) should be. This is imperitive since this game is all about space conservation. If you know where all your buildings are going to be, you only need to deal with building huts, which means your challenge derives from the randomness of the item you receive each turn.

The best way to plan a game, is to work backwards from the triple sky castle. In this guide, I will be making my triple sky castle in the upper right corner, although you can make it wherever you choose. I would urge you to make it on the upper or bottom row (or the left most or right most column). A triple sky castle, unlike any other building, requires four lower tiered (sky castle) items to be created. Of course, we can still use a crystal in conjunction with three sky castles to achieve the same effect.

There are a few concepts that should greatly help you succeed in planning and building a triple sky castle.

The first is arranging your high tiered buildings in such a way that prevents them from changing your low level building. What does this mean? For example, if I built my three sky castles in such a way that it would box in the upper right tile, I would have to build two sky castles in the the second row from the top. This means I would need to shift my castles down a row, consequently my mansions and houses would be built one row lower as well. Ultimately this means I'd have to build three houses in the space of two rows. This makes things more cramped and likely to become overwhelmed, and more importantly it throws me out of my comfort zone and I'm more liable to make mistakes. So for a specific example on how to prevent this, is to make your three sky castles all on the top row (first row, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th columns) and then use a crystal to build the triple sky castle in the upper right.

The second concept is to always build the most out of the way building first. This seems pretty obvious, but it's worth mentioning all the same. An easy example, I'll use the same example in my last paragraph, where I build three sky castles in a 'box' around the upper right corner. If I were to build my triple sky castle this way (which I wouldn't), then the first sky castle I would want to make is the one in the top row.

If the triple sky castle is to be built in the upper right corner, that means that we need three sky castles that are either adjacent to the upper right corner or adjacent to another sky castle that in turn is adjacent to the upper right corner. The way I would suggest to do this is to build three sky castles along the upper row (top row; 2nd, 3rd, and 4th columns), and then you would use a crystal to complete the triple sky castle. So, using one of the concepts from above, I would start by planning out how to build the sky castle that lies next to the free space.

Before we jump into planning out the first sky castle, there are two things you want to know from here on out. The first is that with my strategy, I always aim to use crystals to form mansions and all buildings higher than a mansion. Secondly is that the placements I mention from now on are only what I suggest, you can place whatever you want, wherever you want, just make sure to review your layout to make sure everything logically works out.

For building the first sky castle, we need two regular castles and a crystal. I place the two castles underneath where I want the sky castle, one placed directly underneath the spot, and another castle to the right of the first castle. To build each castle we need two mansions and a crystal. I place each mansion underneath where I want each castle in the same fashion as I did with the castles (one mansion underneath where the castle will be, and another mansion to the right of that). This is where the concepts mentioned above comes in. I can build both sets of mansions (one set for each castle) in the exact same spot, and just change where I place the crystal to complete each castle.

Next I need to plan where the houses will be built to make the mansions. This is where the second concept comes into play. Since my mansions will be in the 2nd and 3rd columns, I want to build the one on the left (2nd column) first, so that I leave myself plenty of room to build the second one. Consequently I want to build my houses in the same fashion, so I'll move down to the hut tier. I'll build three huts in a vertical line, with the last hut built on "top" so that it forms a house in the third row. So for example for my first house, I'll build huts on E3, D3, and then one final one on C3 forming a house on C3. I'll repeat the process one column over, so I'll build a hut on E4, D4, and finally on C4. From here I use a crystal if available to form a mansion on C2. I then repeat the entire process, just shifted one column to the right. That is to say, I'll make three huts on E4, D4, and finally C4, and then another set of three on E5, D5, and finally C5, and then finally use a crystal to make a mansion on C3.

That's all you need to plan for ONE sky castle. The second two are very similar to the first, and in this specific layout, I'll be making my two castles for both the second and third sky castle in the same positions (both sets will lie on B3 and B4). The only other difference is that I'll be completing my buildings towards the right side of the map. What does this mean? It means that when I get to my lower tiered buildings, I'll be building my houses starting on the right, and working left, and then using a crystal to build it on the far right. Sound confusing? If I'm building a mansion, I'd build my first house on C3, my second house on C2, and use the crystal on C4. For the second mansion I would probably change it up and build the first one on C1, the second on C2, and use the crystal on C3. From here you just use the same ideas for building the first sky castle.
Building
Building can essentially be viewed as an algorithm. There are a few very important considerations you want to keep in mind while building. The first, is that it's important to have a plan (read the section before this), so you can put the majority of your focus on placing grass, bushes, trees, and hut. When you have a plan for where everything should go (with the exception of grass, bushes, and trees), it becomes easier to focus on building huts and you're less likely to make mistakes placing things where they should be.

Another concern is to reduce your reliance on bushes and tree objects. For example, you don't want to build a tree with two bushes already placed and have the spot where your third bush needs to be enclosed by already existing objects, because in this case you'll need a bush to spawn to complete the tree. However, if you plan where your trees and bushes are going to be in advance, more often than not, you will be able to leave an opening so you can place three grasses to create your third and final bush.

The last concern is about managing free slot items and spawned items. Generally, I've found my best success in keeping the lowest tiered item available in my free slot, which is almost always grass. There are a few exceptions. Obviously if you think you'll need a bush, tree, or hut in the near vicinity because then holding onto those is okay. Crystals on the other hands I always keep in the bank slot but I generally use them as soon as I can (but only using them to make houses or higher tiered items).

Otherwise the building is the easy part (so long as you aren't unlucky with your spawned items). Try to use some of the methods mentioned in this guide to give yourself as much space while building huts. Happy building!
Example Build Order
Here is a example build order for a triple sky castle. Remember build orders are tentative because sometimes things happen outside your control and you need adjust. Learning to adjust to your general building plans is crucial to building a mega sky castle.

Assume the bank slot is grid space A1, the bottom left corner is A5, the bottom right corner is E5, and the top right corner is E1.

The build order may look something like this:

C5, C4, C3~, D5, D4, D3~, B3*
D5, D4, D3~, E5, E4, E3~, C3*, B2^
C5, C4, C3~, D5, D4, D3~, B3*
D5, D4, D3~, E5, E4, E3~, C3*, C2^, B1^

<-- This is a visualization for what buildings will be where for the first tower

That's for the first tower. If you wanted to build the second tower (one spot to the right) a tentative build order would be almost identical:

C5, C4, C3~, D5, D4, D3~, B3*
D5, D4, D3~, E5, E4, E3~, C3*, B2^
C5, C4, C3~, D5, D4, D3~, B3*
D5, D4, D3~, E5, E4, E3~, C3*, C2^, C1^

Third tower + Triple Sky Tower:

D5, D4, D3~, C5, C4, C3~, E3*
C5, C4, C3~, B5, B4, B3~, D3*, E2^
D5, D4, D3~, C5, C4, C3~, E3*
C5, C4, C3~, B5, B4, B3~, D3*, D2^, D1^, E1^

Notes:

~ means that you can use a crystal, but it's very preferable to just build a hut.

* means that if a crystal is readily available consider using it, but you can build three more huts if you feel confident

^ means you should use a crystal, even if it means waiting until you get one (resetting the stores stock on another map is a good way to get a crystal)

For all other mentioned cell spots, you're just building a hut in that spot.

Using my first line as an example: C5, C4, C3~, D5, D4, D3~, B3*

At C5 and C4 you build huts, at C3 you should try to build a hut. Repeat this process on cell spots D5, D4, and D3. Then finally you use a crystal at B3 to make a mansion.

Condensed version for Copy & Paste:

C5, C4, C3~, D5, D4, D3~, B3* D5, D4, D3~, E5, E4, E3~, C3*, B2^ C5, C4, C3~, D5, D4, D3~, B3* D5, D4, D3~, E5, E4, E3~, C3*, C2^, B1^ C5, C4, C3~, D5, D4, D3~, B3* D5, D4, D3~, E5, E4, E3~, C3*, B2^ C5, C4, C3~, D5, D4, D3~, B3* D5, D4, D3~, E5, E4, E3~, C3*, C2^, C1^ D5, D4, D3~, C5, C4, C3~, E3* C5, C4, C3~, B5, B4, B3~, D3*, E2^ D5, D4, D3~, C5, C4, C3~, E3* C5, C4, C3~, B5, B4, B3~, D3*, D2^, D1^, E1^ * and ^ denotes where you use a crystal, otherwise build a hut on designated spot.
Updates / Notes / Etc.
I'm quite busy at the present and haven't had as much time as I would have liked to make this. I also decided to post now and I'll go back and edit later, that way if you've been seeking some advice about building a mega sky castle you'll at least have an unedited guide to hopefully assist you. On that note, I'm sorry for any egregious errors and I hope this guide doesn't sound like an endless rambling.

The best motivation I'll have to updating this guide will be at the request of you the reader! If you want screenshots to clarify something, a re-wording of something that doesn't make sense, or even a video to show what I mean, just make sure to ask somewhere in the comments and I'll hopefully be able to find time to make improvements to the guide.
Screenshots

^ This is a good example of building in a way that allows for open space. Notice my first house is close to the edge, I'll end up making a mansion one spot to the right of where that house is. Once that mansion is built (the next screenshot illustrates how much space is left), I'll have a ton of space left over for building the next mansion, the one I'm about to make will be as out of the way as it can be.

^ As I mentioned above, I want to try and build my higher tiered buildings out of the way, since they are going to be around for awhile, this is a great example of just this idea. I made my mansion far to the right, my next one will be to the left of current one, and then I'll just use a crystal in the space above the mansion on screen to make a castle that's completely out of the way of my building area.

^ First note where I placed the box, depending on where you plan to build your towers, that particular spot can be a very good one (if you plan to build a tower there, then putting it just beneath bank slot isn't a bad idea either). Also note that even though I have the whole left side of the map open, I'm placing my plants all around where the huts are, that way if something goes wrong, I have an excess area I can use to salvage any bad situations. It also illustrates trying to build from one edge and then move to the other, preserving as much space as possible.
