First. You Need Some Programs To Modify Or Change The Graphic Options.

Here Is The List Of All Of The Programs You Needed.

STEP 01

Do You Have A Bad PC?? If Do Follow These Steps!

Number 01 ► Try Lowering Your Graphics Options.

STEP 02

Hey, This Is Gonna Be Harder Now Because We're Going To Enter A Folder World!

( Note This CMD Works Only With Source 1 Engine. You Can Use These For Another S1 Game Too! Like HL2. )

First Of All, Locate To Your Garry's Mod Folder And Follow This.

► garrysmod ► cfg ► autoexec.cfg.

( Note Open The autoexec.cfg File With Notepad++ )

If It Does Not Exist, Create A New One.

Here Is The List Of The Commands To Improve Performance.

( note that you can copy these commands into Notepad++ )

► sv_cheats 1 ( IMPORTANT. THIS NEEDED FOR SOME COMMANDS TO WORK AT ALL. )
► r_lod 8 ( Will Lower The Model That The NPC Use. Like More Blocky Arms. See Picture Below To See How Much It Effects. )



► mat_dxlevel 70 ( Forces The Game To Use DirectX 7 - Will Greatly Improve Performance On Older GPU's )
► mat_picmip 4 ( Controls How Much Detail The Texture Is. 4 Is The Lowest Possible. See The Below To See How Much That Is. )


► mat_showlowresimage 1 ( This Will Use HL1 Textures For EVERYTHING. See The Picture Below To See How Much It Effects. This Greatly Improve Performance. )


( Please Note. When You Start Up Gmod, Open Console And Type exec autoexec.cfg
To Make Sure The Game Loaded The Graphics Options. )

Help! I Still Cannot Get Playable FPS!

Lets Proceed To The Last Step.

DirectX Versions.

DirectX 95

cmd -> mat_dxlevel 95

• Super Fu*king Beautiful Graphics
  
• Not Reccomended For Low End Pc.
  
• Shaders Are OK.

DirectX 90

cmd -> mat_dxlevel 90

• Nice Graphics.
  
• Not Reccomended For Low End Pc.
  
• Shaders Are OK.

DirectX 81

cmd -> mat_dxlevel 81

• Medium/Low Graphics.
  
• Reccomended For Low End Pc.
  
• Shaders Are Normal. ( Material Tool Will Not Work. )

DirectX 80

cmd -> mat_dxlevel 80

• Medium/Low Graphics.
  
• Reccomended For Low End Pc.
  
• Shaders Are Poop. ( Material Tool Will Not Work. )

DirectX 70

cmd -> mat_dxlevel 70

• Lowest Graphics.
  
• Highly Reccomended For Low End Pc.
  
• Shaders Are Poopest. ( Material Tool Won't Work. )

STEP 03

Well, Lets Change Performance On Your PC.

First! Go To Power Options Then Choose High Performance.


WARNING! THIS WILL HEAT UP YOUR LAPTOP IF YOU HAVE A BAD COOLER

Secound! Changing Your Screen Resolution!

► If You Have A 1920x1080 Monitor, Change It To 720p ( 1280x720 )
► If You Have A 1600x900 Monitor, Change It To 720p ( 1280x720 )
► If You Have A 1366x768 Monitor, Change It To ???p ( 800x600 )
► If You Have A 1024x768 Monitor, Change It To 480p? ( 640x480 )
► If You Have A 640x480 Monitor, Change It To ???p ( 320x210 )
► If You Have A 320x210 Monitor, Change It To ???p ( 144x??? )

GPU! ( Graphics Processing Unit )

Get something like

• 2+ GB OF GRAPHICS MEMORY!
  
• GDDR5
  
• I recommended "R7 250 2GB GDDR5" - low power,strong,small price.

Get something like

• 4 CORES / 8 CORES (2 cores are kinda dead at this generation.)
  
• Aim for a good speed.

RAMS! ( Random Access Memory )

There's no clear answer how much ram you will need.

• I Recommended 8+GB of RAM as possible.
  
• Get DDR3 (DDR2 are slow, DDR4 is too expensive)
  
• It Depends on your style of gaming. bunch of mods = ram.

Dxlevel 81 makes my game freeze, so I'm trying Dxlevel 85 instead

P.S Some dxlevel cmds will not work with the latest version of the game, This is the reason that if you typed "dxlevel XX" into the game or use it via the autoexec.cfg file, The game will crash because it's not supported. DXLEVEL80, 81 and 90 will work for now, DXLEVEL 70 will just not work, as i think it's going to be super old if a game uses DirectX 7 in 2021. But it would be great for those who doesn't have a good Graphics card, or wanted the most FPS.

i would love to know why, and if i do the direct x commands and hit play on gmod in steam it just gets stuck on "launching executable"

I typed "exec autoexec.cfg." into the console- and it basically messed my game up. Is there any way to undo this?

ENABLE MULTICORE,
ive been using a 2070 super for a year and still got shit fps because the game engine is so dog ass old, this helps a lot and i mean a lot with fps and if you have any cpu made after fuckin 2012 it should do a lot

Garry's Mod in ZM Survival server: Bad map = 20 fps, Optimized map = 30 / 40 fps.
Without optimize (Disabled all addons, 1080p, Settings is max, DX Level 9)
Garry's Mod in ZM Survival server: Bad map = 10 / 20 fps, Optimized map = 20 / 25 fps.
