Vehicle Attachments 101

Do you also find the game does very little to explain its various attachments? This guide intends to give a quick overview of the attachments types available in the vanilla game.

Attachment types

The vanilla game offers roughly three groups of attachments: Add-ons, Trailers/Carts and Semi-trailers. Many are capable of carrying either logs, fuel, repair or garage unlock points, a few have more specialized roles.

Add-ons

Add-ons are attachments installed directly on the vehicle, functioning as either cargo containers, supports or log loading tools. Add-ons can only be installed/replaced at a garage.

Cargo add-ons
Most add-ons are used for carrying cargo, like the Fuel Cistern, Garage Utility Tent and Log Carriage.



Cargo carrying add-ons are generally installed on the truck bed, leaving no space for a Trailer Hitch add-on (needed to attach semi-trailers).

Support/requirement add-ons
Some add-ons are just supports (requirements) for other attachments, like Crane Support (for cranes):


Fireproof Exhaust (for fuel cisterns and semi-trailers):


or the beforementioned Trailer Hitch (for semi-trailers):


Log loading add-ons
Crane and Loader are special add-ons used for loading logs:

Trailers & Carts

Trailers and carts are attached behind the vehicle via a tow hitch, leaving space for add-ons to be attached on the truck:


Trailers can be detached and picked up again without dropping the load (except for Log Carts!):


Add-ons and trailers can be mixed and matched to provide different kinds of cargo loadouts, e.g.:

Fuel Cistern + Garage Trailer:


Fuel Cistern + Short Log Trailer:


Garage Parts + Short Log Trailer:


Log Carriage + Utility Trailer:


etc.

Log Carrier + Log Cart combo

The Log Carrier add-ons and Log Cart trailers are unique in that they only work in combination - neither can carry logs alone. Attached together on a class C truck a log carrier and cart can carry medium and long logs.




Since the log load is shared between towing truck and cart (logs rest on both Log Carrier and Log Cart), once loaded, the cart cannot be detached without dropping the logs.

Semi-trailers

Semi-trailers carry huge loads of fuel, repair or garage unlock points, but are attached to the bed of the truck with the ('fifth wheel') Trailer Hitch add-on, leaving no space for other add-ons or trailers.



Like trailers, semi-trailers can be detached and picked up again without losing the cargo:

A note on vehicle classes

Most attachments are restricted to certain vehicle classes, so this overview presents the attachments available by each class:

A : Cars, suitable for scouting. Can carry small loads of utility cargo (like repair, fuel and garage pts.).
B : Light trucks, suitable for transporting medium loads of utility cargo (repair, fuel, garage pts.) or small loads of logs.
C : Medium to heavy trucks, all-round workhorses. Go-to vehicles for hauling medium and long logs.
D : Very heavy vehicles, suitable for rescue missions.
E : Very, very heavy vehicles, suitable for rescue missions.
