The aft pair are used to drop aircraft to the hangar for repairs, as well as moving helicopters when needed.
If I only have a few aircraft coming in, I'll drop ELE 2 to receive them after repairs and send them down with number 3. Once they're off 3, it goes up at once for more aircraft, and 2 waits below for them to be ready to ferry up.
Not sure what I did, but I tried to arm as many aircraft as possible when they landed before sending damaged ones down to the hangar bay while ensuring I had at least one aircraft of each type on the deck ready to respond. I also kept moving my choppers around so there's sufficient space for the Harriers, Ospreys and other Choppers. And yea it's pretty randomised so I guess it's based on luck too.
I usually send my planes down for repairs after every mission, but do not be afraid to send them on two or three missions on a row while pressured. Sometimes, you have moments where risks are necessary in order to keep up with the incoming enemies.
On the other side, remember that the incoming enemies in that game mode are somewhat random, so you will sometimes be confronted with impossible to handle situations, such as having 3~4 battleships or 3~4 submarines coming in a row one after another, leaving you completely out of aircraft to handle them.
My Hawkeyes , one Air and one Surface , were in the cargo areas when they were on board and not scanning for threats.
The blue section had three Anti-Surface F/A 18 s and one EWA F/A 18 Super Hornet because that was common for about half the ships.
The red section had two more Anti-Surface F/A 18 s and the white were Anti-Air F/A 18 s.
There are multiple Super Hornets in the level but it is uncommon to have both on deck at the same time. When one arrives, the other is taking off.
Would you recommend that other people do the same because that was really helpful for me.
