aggresive creatures

there are many dangerous creatures in rain world, this is where i will catalouge them and their behaviour (and most likley how they killed me).

lizards:

all lizards have armoured heads which do not take damage from spears but have vulnarable bodies, to expose their weak body you must either get the jump on them, throw a rock to knock its head away and stun it allowing you to throw a spear at its body, or manage to get behind one before it can turn around. lizards also have to see or hear you to know you are there along with anyother creatures. all lizards can pass through pipes, even ones the player cannot access and use them to get closer to you or their prey, they also all seem to have a den tunnel that is not accesible to the player that they return to to store food and hide from the rain. when traveling through pipes the color of the lizard is displayed. lizards colors can vary slightly from specimen to specimen and can have different looking body details such as back spikes. lizards are capable of chasing players into safe zones.

green lizard:

green lizards are the most common type of lizard and the largest sub-species that i have found so far, they are very aggresive and have a decent amount of hp, however they have no special abilities and can be evaded easily.

pink lizard:

pink lizards are smaller than green lizards and have a wide variety of colors ranging from purple to pink, they have a smaller health pool and can climb poles to get to the player.

blue lizards:

blue lizards are very small compared to the green and pink lizards, they have a lower health pool than pink lizards and die in a few spear hits, they make up for this however by being able to climb backround walls making them the most mobile lizard type, they have a small tounge that slightly increases their grab distance.

salamander:

the salamanders are aquatic lizards that are similar in size to green lizards, they are very fast in water and have a short tounge to grab prey with. they can be hard to spot in murky water.

mole lizard:

mole lizards are encountered underground, they are very small and dark coloured lizards with small tentacles on their faces, they can be hard to see and spawn underground or in dimly lit areas, i dont know much more about them as i have only encountered one

white lizard:

the white lizard is perhaps the most dangerous lizard i have encountered, they can camaflouge themselves so as to ambush their prey, they can only be one color however so if you look closely they can be easy to spot, however they have a very long tounge so even if they are spotted, they can still be hard to escape. white lizards are about the size of greens and have high speed and the ability to climb walls.

pole plants:

pole plants live around normals poles or in areas where you would expect one to be. they look very similar to normal poles on first glance but are always a perfect line with no bumps or anything similar to other poles. if you or any creatures tries to climb it they will reveal themselves and try to pull them underground. when not disguised they look like tall stalks with red leaves near the base and a pincer on the top of them, when a item is thrown at them they will move when hit by it revealing them to be pole plants. if you can trick a predator into climbing it they can be dragged under and killed, if you piss them off by throwing something at them they will know their cover is blown and will reach out and attack you and anyother creature which happens to be nearby. however if there are other real poles around you can hold onto them if a pole plant has grabbed you and if you manage to hold on eventually it will drop you. they can be killed with a single spear however will repsawn the next day.

leeches:

leeches are found in bodies of water exclusivley and in swarms. they are bright red and shaped like a fat worm. they will swim towards the play and latch nto them which will weigh them down. one is not a threat but multiple attached to you can be problomatic and will cause you to sink in water and slow you down. they will dry up quickly out of water and begin to turn black and will eventually fall off and try to get to the closest body of water.

tentacle kelp:

this creature lives in or near water and usually with leeches. they are long worm like things with a small head at one end with 2 large white eyes. when approached sometimes they move underground and reappear somewheres else. they will also observe the player but cause no harm until provoked. if their heads are hit by spears (their bodies are immune to them) their eyes will turn red and they will become agressive grabbing you and trying to drown you in any nearby water and fling you around.

vultures:

these creatures can be found in open areas espically in high up places or in open fields. they have long wings which can double as arms allowing them to hold onto walls and walk with them. they can fly by using gas and are very large and fast, their necks are long and flexible allowing them they can be a variety of colors and all where masks. they can be very deadly and tend to watch from above for awhile until attacking. they can attack nearly anything and will. however their large size makes it hard for them to get into some areas and impossible to get into others such as rooms with no open roof.

willow:

these plant like creatures appear as one long tentacle covered in dangaling red leaf or feather like growths, they are immoblie but are fast moving and can grab most creatures and pull them into the hole they protrude from, devouring them. i have only encountered a few and dont know much about them other than that.

sea monster:

this creature is the largest i have seen, dwarfing slugcat and even birds, they are massive aquatic creatures with large mechanical jaws that can open and eat creatures whole, their jaws extend out when they are biting. these beasts seem to be some form of plant or fungi as when they are out of the water blue growths can be seen over them, they have long skinny whip like tendrils aswell that only serve an asethetic purpose.

daddy longlegs:

these creatures main bodies are composed of lumps with x's on them, they have long tentacles which are very sticky, they are quite large and can eat most creatures, however they seem to be blind and wont attack unless they hear or feel something nearby, to eat they grab things with their tendrils and pull them towards their main mass and absorb them. the creature's tentacles can be disabled with a spear or stunned with a rock.

spiders:

spiders are found mostly in dark areas, they come in a few varieties, they all have multiple long legs and large fangs, they also have long hairs or some kind of spikes on their back, the basic variety are fast and can climb walls, i have not seem them much and dont know much about them,
their is another variety with green bits on them, they can jump.

agressive creatures part 2
runner birds:

runner birds are quite possibly the most terrifying and single minded creatures in the game, they are large birdlike wingless creatures with large mechanical toothed beaks which can pluck slugcat off the ground with ease and even pull slugcat out from inside holes, they also have short stubby legs with long piston-like leg "extensions" that allow them to run at extreme speeds, they tend to travel in packs along large tunnels emerging from the ceiling then sprinting across the tunnel to another exit in the roof, they are violent ferocious predators with seemingly only one goal, kill, they after spotting prey they will chase it at extreme speeds and will only stop their pursuit once they or their prey are dead, their prey has left the area, or rain is coming, they will stand near where they last saw slugcat and if slugcat is in a inaccesible area to them they will attempt to grab slugcat with their beaks, the only way i have found to survive and encounter face to face with one is through the use of flashbangs which blind and stun them, they make a lound clanging sound as they run, whenever you hear this sound get as far away as you can or hide, do not attempt to fight them.

centipedes:

centipedes are large insectoid creatures that inhabit tunnels are dark areas, they are long centipede looking creatures with two heads and armor plating covering their body, they have the largest size diffrences i have seen in any creatures, with the babies being small enough to pick up and eat, (however they will shock slugcat, stunning them for a seconds.) with the largest being similar is size to monster kelp. they attack slugcat by attaching both heads to them then electrocuting them, hitting them with spears will cause them to let go however even small ones have a large health pool taking 3 or so hits to kill the smallest ones that arent babies, spears deal negligible damage to larger centipedes with the only effective way of killing them being luring them near another dangerouns animal.
neutral-passive creatures
this section is composed of creatures that dont attack on sight or are not aggresive.

pop bugs:

pop bugs are beetles with a large shell that can be a variety of colours and they have small legs and a small head and will climb along walls. they are not aggressive but will "pop" causing a small shock wave and knocking you down, they are not injured by the "pop". you can kill them witha spear but i dont know if they are edible or serve a purpose once killed.

squid bugs:

these insects seem mostly harmelss and look like some form of cicada with a squid like face. they can be killed with spears and while still alive can be grabbed and them trying to fly away can help you get more height with you jumps. they can travel through pipes and appear blue while doing so.

scavangers:

scavengers are tribal beings with what appears to be human like intelligence. they are humanoinds with brownish skin and wear masks with their eyes that can be a variety of colors showing through. they carry spears and sometimes other items and can store things on their back. their eyes can show their feelings letting you know what they are thinking. scavengers are most likely the most complex creatures in the game. they will travel through pipes and be agressive or docile depending on how you act. they will be less hostile if you drop any weapons you hold and crouch. giving them pearls will make them happy and they will drop anything they hold and you may take them. usually they are non hostile unless provoked. their territory is marked by skulls. they can travel through pipes and appear brown while doing so.

bats:

bats are the most common edible creatures around. bats can fly and tend to hover around in one area, they spawn mostly near their nests which look like spiked rocks protruding from the ground,
if something tries to eat them they can dissapear into their nests. bats can be caught by hand and eaten alive, they can also be killed by rocks and spears, they can travel through pipes and appear white while doing so.

smoke squids:

smoke squids are multi-color squids which can create a ink cloud when thrown, that can hide slugcat, after they are thrown they can be eaten. smoke squids are aquatic but can be found out of water sometimes.

jellyfish:

jellyfish are aquatic creatures with a small dome and long thin tentacles, they mostly float in place and will shock creatures as a defense mechanism, they can be eaten alive.

banana slugs:

banana slugs are slug like yellow creatures with a fat small yellow body and a brown yellow head with one eye, when threatened they will point into the air and shine a bright laser from their eye while creating a high piched noise, this will attract birds if they are outside. banana slugs can be eaten alive.

noodle flies:

noodle flies are long multicolor creatures with four wings small eyes and a long skinny body which is largest in the middle, they usually travel with 1-2 smaller babies in tow, they are very fast and can dodge spears well, when provoked they produce a spike from their mouth and try to stab whatever angred them, if dodged their mouth spikes will become stuck and they will be vulnerable to attack.

items

general: items i classify as anything you can pick up and use.

debris:

rubble and other small items are very common items. they dont do much damage but can stun creatures. throwing one at a wall may distract some types of creatures if they have not spotted you.

spears:

spears are the most basic weapons in the game, being found nearly anywhere, they can be thrown at creatures to attack them or at walls to use as platforms. they can be retrived from creatures bodies and thrown again but if they are thrown at a wall and used as a platform they will be un-retrivable. a spear variety with red cloth on it can be found mostly on scavangers, these spears are explosive and have a small fuse after being thrown.

firecracker plant:

these plants are small and red with what looks like red seed pods along the side of them, they can be picked up and thrown causing them to explode like firecrackers, this can be use to distract creatures or scare them away but seem to cause no damage.

blue fruit:

the second most common food source right next to bats these small hanging fruits can be found nearly anywhere hanging from vines, sometimes they can be slightly hard to reach but a little effort can help you grab them. they can be thrown and fed to some creatures.

blue nuts:

blue nuts are usually found near water and can only be comsumed once thrown in and will be turned into edible bubbles. after some time i have come to belive these blue nuts to be one of the most multi functional items in the game, as before they are exposed to water they can be stored in your mouth which allows for a transportable food source that allows your hands to be kept free. they also are very buoyant and while holding 2 one can easily traverse leech infested waters as the bubbles will help keep you afloat.

batnip:

this red plant is slightly rare but very useful, it is a small red plant with a thin red stem and large red leaves, it can be eaten but its main use is that it attracts bats, this can be used to set traps or if you simply need to eat some food, it can also be carried into shelters and used the next cycle.

red orbs:

i have observed some scavangers carriying these strange red items around, they are circular and have a red cross in the middle of them, their purpose is unkown to me.

flashbangs:

flashbangs are glowing orbs found on the end of purple stems, when thrown they create a very bright light that can give slugcat a chance to escape from monsters.

glowing stone:

these red stones are carried by scavangers and glow brightly, they seem to simply be a light source.

mushrooms:

mushrooms are edible plants which do not fill hunger slots but slow down time and make slugcat move faster and jump higher, they can be very useful tools in evading predators.

red stalk:

red stalk plants are red plants with long stalks and a long red end, the end of these plants can be hit with spears to open them. open stalk plants can be eaten and used as a endless food source but only for one day and shrivel up after the player hibernates.

yellow flowers:

yellow flowers are glowing yellow plants which can be found rarly on any area, they give the player a shield when eaten that keeps the players karma level from being lowered once when killed. yellow flowers are primarliy found near the area the player died the last time they had a karma shield.

pearls:

pearls can be found rarley throughout the game they are small orbs that range from green to red to blue, they are most commonly white however. pearls can be given to scavangers and used as a form of currency, scavengers will drop the items on their back if given one and made friendly, occasionaly a small cave decorated with skulls with a scavanger in it can be found, these scavangers are merchants and if given a pearl will drop the items they have which are usually explosive spears.

bubble plands:

bubble plants are greenish blue plants with a stalk and lined with small bubbles, they are inedible but can be stored in slugcats mouth, they will float towards the sky once they have been picked up and can be used for buoyancy

other
controls:

rolling:

if holding down left or right when slugcat hits the ground they will roll which will keep you from being stunned by a long fall or allow you to keep moving with out slowing down.

pole boost:

if while climbing a pole you press space you will quicky boost in the direction you are moving with a short speed penalty afterwards.

tunnel boost:

while in a small tunnel if you press space slugcat will quickly boost in the direction you are moving similarly to a pole boost, however if you press jump while turning a corner you will boost without losing any speed afterwards.

leap:

while holding down if you hold space slugcat will quickly charge up a low height long distance leap which will allow you to cover large gaps.

map:

holding space will open a map and show you how much time until the rain starts and your karma level, along with your food meter. the map also mark where you have died and where golden flowers currently are and all discovered shelters.

swallowing:

while holding an some small inedible items you can hold down the eat button to swallow the object and hold the eat button with no edible items in hand to regurgitate the item later, some iems you can swallow include blue nuts before they are placed in water, pearls, and flashbangs,

tips:

debris can actually be much more useful than you might expect, they can be used to stun some creatures when hit by them or thrown to create noise as a distraction.

running is almost always the best option when encountering a dangerous creature, even if you have a spear the danger of being killed is never worth fighting unless you have to, always try to find a way around a creature or a way to distract it before resorting to violence.

an effective way of dealing with multiple aggresive creatures is sometime to get them to fight eachother, most creatures will attack other creatures if provoked or simply for food, and some specides such as lizards will fight eachother giving you a chance to escape.

mechanics:

karma:

karma is displayed in the buttom left as a symbol, your karm increases each day you survive and decreases each time you die. certain levels of karma are needed to access different regions

rain:

the rain timer is displayed in the buttom left as multiple dots, the less dots there are the less time you have left, when the time is up it begins to rain, the rain at first begins as rumbling then water begins to rain from the sky hard enough to pin slugcat down, if not in the open the rain will flood areas, the only place safe from the rain is inside shelters.

shelters:

shelters are marked by a distinct symbol and are the one safe place from rain, to use a shelter you need atleast 4 food bars.

food:

in the bottom left is 7 circles which can be filled by eating food, only 4 cirlces need to be filled in enter a shelter but 3 more can be stored for the next day effectivley decreasing the amount of food you need for that day.
