How to add custom levels/mods to Spintires MR

Proper method
There's workshop support for custom levels, so hopefully you can ignore this for most maps (once they get uploaded).

  1. Start by downloading a level, it'll likely be in a rar/zip/7z file.
If it's a zip then skip to step 3
  2. Convert the rar/7z to a zip file (extract files then add to zip).
  3. Move the zip file to %ProgramFiles%\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Spintires MudRunner (or right-click on Spintires MR in Steam>go to properties>local files>browse local files).
  4. Open %APPDATA%\SpinTires MudRunner\config.xml in notepad or similar.

  5. Assuming the zip file is called level_somemap.zip, then add this line above the Media.zip line
    <MediaPath Path="level_somemap.zip" />
  6. Save the file.

This assumes the zip file has the proper folder setup (compare the folder structure against media.zip)
For a plain level mod, it should look like this:

Lazy method
If you want to be lazy, and just extract to the Media folder like in Spintires, then above the Media.zip line add
<MediaPath Path="Media" />
and save it.
Attention Mappers
Unlike with Spintires, Spintires MR doesn't allow Multiplayer if you've overwritten any of the games resources, so you'll have to be careful with naming textures etc...

prefix *levelname*_ to custom files for less chance of being in conflict with other custom resources or direct users to SpinTiresMod[www.mudrunnermods.com]

Mods
I don't want to make a new guide, so some mods requested in forums

BreakableTrees[choggi.org] (makes bigger trees breakable).

DCMT rock friction fix for MR[choggi.org]
All thanks go to DCMT[spintires.nl] I only updated it for MR (this allows you to get traction on those slippery rocks).

Truck shifting sounds[choggi.org] (updated for MR)
I really wish I knew who made this. Sounds are sampled from: https://youtu.be/m2yDscJDwxs?t=5

SpinTiresMod[www.mudrunnermods.com]
^^ Electric Winch (and other stuff see BiggHewi's comment).

@ChoGGi Yes like mods from world of mods or some other or better yet how do you upload a mod to workshop?

How do you get Trucks to work in Multiplayer that isn't from steam??!

It said something like "file old or missing" every time I tried to load up the map when I did it that way. I meant voice but its fine.

"Choggi can we talk bro? XD"
Okay?

"But you could use JSGME to inject only the map itself into the game after you seperated it from objects and that was how you could use custom maps in mp."
couldn't you just load the map as is and copy over the other stuff after you start the game?

In the first spintires It worked with Spintires Plus. In MudRunner you can't have custom objects/items. At least I think thats the restriction. But you could use JSGME to inject only the map itself into the game after you seperated it from objects and that was how you could use custom maps in mp. The "electric winch" Mod you listed was Spintires Plus for the first game but then it was "reimagined" as SpintiresMod for Mudrunner.

It allows custom maps to play normally as long as both players have SpintiresMod. It allows you to cheat fuel + damage and spawn any vehicle you have downloaded into a map. It makes the mud physics more realistic by taking the vehicle size, weight, wheel base, wheel size, and how fast the wheels are spinning to determine how your wheels sink, dig, or spin. In the vanilla game the standard UAZ sinks faster than a truck with a loaded trailor :steamfacepalm:. Fortunately this fixes all of that.

Accidentally deleted my comment requesting an update.

I just tried renaming a level zip to that same name, didn't have a problem.
It might be a problem with the level file itself. Is there a place to download this map?
