Hello,

I'm an experienced Devil May Cry player and recently picked up this Copy of DMC4:SE with the goal of completing it as I'm currently achievement-hunting. And I regret the purchase already so as a word of warning here is an overview of what you can expect from the achievements in Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition.

Overview
Hello,

I am tebane and I am hunting achievements. This isn't the first time I've purchased DMC4:SE either and I have played through all the games in the series at least a couple of times (except for Devil May Cry 2 which I omitted out of personal preference).

First of all, while this game awards you with achievements for clearing the Campaign on a certain difficulity BUT each difficulty has to be cleared separately, which is unlike any other game I have ever played. Let that sink in for a moment. There is a total of 7 difficulties so you will have to Beat EVERY MISSION at LEAST 7 times. Even if you, theoretically, started on the hardest difficulty possible, you are still going to play EVERY difficulty level from Easy mode and above. There's a total of 20 missions and take approximately 8 hours if you are playing efficient.

Therefore Storymode achievements alone will take around 60 hours, on paper, however it is far more likely that we are looking at 120 hours if one is new to Devil May Cry and even if you aren't... that means you already know how Dante Must Die is no cakewalk, you are looking at a learning curve and it's super steep.

Story Mode / Bloody Palace Mode
Story mode Completion achievements:

This is the Campaign. To give you an overview, upon my first playthrough on Devil-Hunter difficulty (Hard~) with Vergil, 6/42 achievements were unlocked. All in all considered after completing ALL the Storymodes we are likely to have around 20/42 achievements unlocked in total. That includes the Combo achievements, likely every ability unlocked on every single character and 1000 enemies defeated up to this point among few others.

Bloody Palace Completion achievements:

Bloody Palace is a separate fighting mode, an arena battle that takes you across 999 levels, takes roughly 1.5 - 2 hours and should pose no problem with the skill-level we are on now that we've completed the Story mode 7 f*cking times. However in order to unlock every achievement we will additionally have to complete Palace with each character individually so here you are again, looking at around 2 hours x 5 characters so approximately 10 hours in total.

And now for the juicy part.
S-Ranks (lol)
First, I want you to read the achievement list carefully and slowly.

The requirement is, again, beat each and every difficulty separately with a Score no less then an S-Rank in each and every mission. S-Rank is the highest rank possible. If you have ever played games that give you Ranks just think about where you are usually placed to.

Missions are repeatable and selectable from the Library once unlocked so we can do them over and over without time-constraint but even on Human mode, again, S-Rank is playing like Koreans do. You can't take many hits, you have to collect all secret red orbs while also not taking too much time finishing the mission. Boss-Fights will require you to analyze and understand boss patterns, you are looking at hours of practice.

And if that wasn't already enough, you are also required to clear Bloody Palace with S-rank and this time round with each character individually. Basically that's 999 levels, it takes almost 2 hours every time and just imagine you are at the last stage and suddenly you die. Or you get hit by attacks and lose Rank. This is how unforgiving achievements in this game are.

Obviously feel free to do S-Ranks on your first playthrough, if you are able to do so. Veterans will probably play it like that. Most of my Devil Hunter missions were A-Rank, I thought the easier Clears would unlock too but well, they didn't. 7 difficulties, 20 missions each, S-Rank in every single one of them, S-Rank in every single Bloody Palace mode. Gg.
Final Thoughts.
If you are looking to pick up this game because you think you're going to 50 hour out of this one, well, you won't. DmC4:SE is a fantastic addition to the Devil May Cry series in general and if you are as masochistic as me then by all means, go for it. But if you are here with an easy 100 % in mind, get the ♥♥♥♥ out and buy Arkham City or something.

On a side note, save games can be modified, Cheat-Engine can be used, there is a ton of trainers out there, most of them are designed to help you practice rather than allow you to breeze-through but you are welcome to make your own cheats, Penis-size doesn't matter afterall? But even if you cheated, you'd save maybe..10 % of the total time invested so it isn't worth it either.

Also, I think if you clear this hellholetrap of a game with an S-Rank you'll probably end up posting videos on Youtube anyway.

And here is where we conclude this guide. I hope I was able to open your eyes a little should you have had the questions I provided answers to, should you have different questions feel free to comment and I'll try to get back to you.

Thank you for reading. Begone!

Yeah it's hard to 100% these games, but it's nowhere near as bad as you make out. Bloody Palace isn't 999 levels lol, it's 101. S Ranks aren't difficult once you're proficient at the game. If you'd practised instead writing out this weak ass pathetic guide you might have 100% the game.

First thing, there are only 101 levels of bloody palace. 2nd is that you can get hit during bloody palace to get S-rank. If you are good enough, you will finish it and thats all you need to do. There are enough enemies to build your stylish rank. Just dont use super costume, coz you will really lose rank.

If I S-Rank a DMD mission, will that also count towards the Human mode missions? Or do I have to play every difficulty and S Rank every level?

I've managed to get all the achievements and it took me around 120 hours. And I've played a lot of original DMC4 when it came out. Best character for beating DMD with S rank is Vergil because of his 'round trip' move.
