Basic Explaination

Many ETS2 and ATS players, or I should say Drivers, don’t understand Driver’s Rating or gets confused with it. There are forums, discussions on Steam where players posts incomplete or inaccurate information, which misleads new players or even mature Drivers. Many thinks it is determined by Level or good & efficient driving which actually would have been further better or realistic scenario to be fair—but, it is not. So, let’s keep it simple & start from basics to understand what actually Driver’s Rating is; how it affects from Driver’s perspective; and, how it is determined in SCS Software’s ETS2 and ATS. Read carefully.

When a Driver completes a Job, he/she gets paid & earns XP (experience points) respectively. Money goes to his Company‘s bank account and XPs helps him/her to Level up. Every time he/she Levels up, he/she gets one Skill point. Skills are categorized into six different categories & each category have maximum six Skill points to apply for—which helps again in getting the benefit of corresponding bonuses in form of extra money & XPs when completing the next available orders (which lies in that category) in Job Markets. So, a Driver can have maximum 6*6=36 Skill points. And that also means Driver needs to be at Level 36 to get all 36 Skill points. Sweet!

Driver's Rating
For any Driver, either him/her-self or the hired ones, Rating is totally based upon combination of Skill sets which he/she upgrades in those six different Skill categories for every time he/she Levels up. Rating has nothing to do with any other aspect or talent of a Driver, like his/her good, efficient or penalty-free driving; no. of garages, trucks and trailers owned; no. of successful deliveries; maps exploration percentage, etc. Nothing.

How driver's rating is determined
Driver’s Rating is scaled and looks like this: 0.0, 0.8, 1.7, 2.5, 3.3, 4.2, 5.0, 5.8, 6.7, 7.5, 8.3, 9.2, 10.0. Maximum is 10.0. Rating can be calculated easily—

  • Check for the highest Skill point in any particular Skill category. For each Skill point, move one step UP in above rating scale.

  • Check for the lowest Skill point in any particular Skill category. Now for each Skill point, move one step UP further (adding to previous hold) in same rating scale.

You can check either of these steps first, result will be same, of course. Now, wherever you reach on scaling after checking out both steps is your Driver’s Rating.
(Note: 0.0 rating = No Skill point. 5.0 rating = Total 6 Skill points in 6 categories combined.)

For example:
If you take a look in these screenshots, I’m already having my highest six Skill points in Hazardous Cargo category, & applying lowest one Skill point in Fuel Economy category. So after applying & moving 6+1=7 steps up, I’m having 5.8 Rating. If I had applied that one Skill point to any other category, then my lowest Skill point would have remained be zero & Rating 5.0. It’s that simple.

Level 36
When reached Level 36, a Driver gets all Skill points, and rated 10.0. Afterwards, he doesn’t upgrade or downgrade in Rating regardless of his driving aspect. Also, there is nothing left to be unlocked, any truck part, customization option; but new paint jobs could appear. By the way, default maximum Level is 150, that can be changed by modifying the configuration file.

I hope this will help. Still confused?! Ask. Please check the date & time of posting or editing before making any reply.

There is also reputation which i belive effects the jobs u get offered. that can go up with succesful deliveris. on time no damage. But it can also got down if ur late or damaged cargo. saw that on a job. was doing cabbages to cabbages. only 1 i could find was from the Dalles to Yakima. so had to reroute to Ontario for the achievement. so a 2 hr drive turned into 12 hrs. prob was it was an urgent delivery and only had 4 hrs to do it in so was about 8 hrs late. no money and rep was -1,750. but u dont see the reputation stuff when u complete jobs unless ur late.

For Hazardous Waste, you pick each skill individually. You can pick any skill in Hazardous Waste category at any time you level up. It is the only skill which works that way.
