Foreword

This guide is to help users who have accidentally deleted or lost their Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator.

I am sure many of us here have experienced this at some point.

For those of you who have saved your recovery code in a safe location, this is not for you, for all you need to do is use that recovery code to regain access.

But if you have misplaced your recovery code, here are the steps you should take to regain access to your account.

Step 1: "Help, I can't sign in"

Your first step is to navigate to Steam Support self-help site here:

And then click on "Help, I can't sign in".

Step 2: "I deleted or lost my Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator"

Now, since you are unable to access your Steam account due to losing your mobile authenticator, click on "I deleted or lost my Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator".

It should take you to this page:

Step 3: Enter your account name, email address or phone number

Now, Steam will ask you to enter your account name, or your email address, or your phone number. Enter one of the above.

If you have tried too many times on the Steam Support page, you may also be required to fill in a CAPTCHA as well.

Step 4: Account verification by phone number

Now Steam will ask if you want them to send you a code via SMS.

If you still have access to your phone number, click on "Text an account verification code to my phone number ending in __". Steam will send you a verification code allowing you to regain access to your Steam account.

If you have lost your phone, click on "I no longer have access to this phone number".

Step 5: Account verification by email

If you are on this step, it is because you no longer have access to your phone number.

Steam will now ask you if you want them to send you a verification code via email.

If you still have access to the email address that you used for Steam, click on "Email an account verification code to __________". Then you can use that code to regain access to your Steam account.

However, if you have lost your email or cannot access your email, click on "I no longer have access to this email address".

Step 6: Enter your account's password

If you have no access to your phone number or your email, Steam will now ask you to enter your account's password.

This is fairly straightforward. Just enter your account's password.

Now Steam will ask what is preventing you from logging in. Click on "Remove Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator". If you have lost your phone as well, click on "Remove my phone number" after you remove the mobile authenticator.

However, if you for some reason do not remember your account's password, click on "I forgot my password".

Step 7: Contact Steam Support with proof of ownership

If you are on this step, it is because you have no access to your mobile authenticator, your phone number, your email address AND you forgot your password.

You will now be taken to a page to contact Steam Support.

Fill in all the relevant information that you think will help you recover your account.

Things that are necessary:

  • Your current contact email address.

  • Proof of ownership. This can either be the payment method that you used to purchase games/Wallet funds and/or the retail CD key(s) that you have activated on your Steam account.

Please check here to see what constitutes "proof of ownership".

And remember, in your words to Steam Support, try to be polite! After all, nobody wants to help someone who is rude.

Final step: Send and wait for Steam Support to respond

Click "Send" after you are done.

Now you wait for Steam Support to respond to you. There is not a fixed amount of time for Steam Support to respond, it depends on how many tickets they have to handle. All I can advise is to be patient.

You may check the current Steam Support statistics and average response times here:

I hope that this has helped you with your account recovery. Good luck!
