1. To download
For this guide you will need:

2. Getting started with AssetBundleExtractor
After downloading these files, extract UABE and update it by dragging and dropping the files of the 2.1d bugfix files on the same folder as the main program.

After doing that, you can open the program by executing "AssetBundleExtractor.exe".

3. Replacing the assets
After opening the program, click File>Open.

Then go to HyperUniverse_Data folder in your system.

Which will probably be something like:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\HyperUniverse\HyperUniverse_Data

And then Open the "resources.assets" file.

After that many assets will be displayed on a list format.

What you want to do here is to find the files based on their on HU_MOD folder you downloaded by going on View>Search by name.

So for example let's find Athena regular skin which is named F53000 on the HU_MOD folder.

After finding the asset, click on the Plugins button, then choose Edit and press OK.

Here you will click on the Load button and choose the .tga file on the HU_MOD folder corresponding to the asset you are changing (in this case F53000.tga).

After loading it press OK.

If you are planning on replacing other artwork, you will have to repeat these same steps expect you will doing so by that asset name file(eg. F8000, F8900, F50000).

4. Finishing
After replacing all artwork you want go File>Save.

Then save it on different directory than the game folder(it will give you an error otherwise).
After doing that you need to copy/cut and paste the file on the HyperUniverse_Data folder.

Then run the game and voilá. It should working by now.

What's missing?
  • Restoring Tatyana and Blue Rose old portraits without them getting misaligned on the Game Info screen. (check the Extras folder on HU_MOD.zip)
  • Finding the korean assets for two skins i couldn't find on the korean version. (check the Extras folder on HU_MOD.zip)
  • Jiggle physics
Notes and disclaimers
  • I'm not resposible if you screw any of the steps and end up having to download the game again.
  • I don't know Nexon's stance about modding, but since the changes are only visual i believe it's OK. Although, use it at your own risk.
  • There's a possibility if the game gets updated, you will have do this process all over again
  • This does NOT replace an official patch to solve the issue of the replacement of artwork and other things in the game, since this a process that can be hassle for players that want such thing. And many things can end up not being found a solution.

Dropbox is ded, would have been a nifty tool (can't find an asset pack elsewhere).

Really and honestly it is not worth the time or the risk of possible future issues (i.e. patching issues or version mismatches) in doing this. The game plays fine with the 'censored' art but the lack physics feels odd which this does not fix; do a web search for that ;)

Using the time and funding to make the changes in the first place is the real issue as it limits the content available in the non KR version, only a few countries (i.e. Arab & Muslim nations) have specific laws against nudity and the game still falls short of these laws by a long shot even after changes so its a waste.

I followed the directions to the tee but the censored photo just shows rather than the pre-censored one. I guess they did something to prevent the change.

Maybe posting images of the differences would help so people can see if it's worth their time even doing this. :balloonicorn:

Having same problem as Echoeagle and Arvalo, the plugin window is blank ...
Ahrimansiah Oct 31, 2017 @ 10:32am
Yup same issue, the plugin window is empty... are we missing something?? do we have to download some kind of plugin for this program?
Arvalo Oct 1, 2017 @ 2:42pm
I'm having the same issue as Echoeagle3 below, when I click "plugin" the box that should allow me to edit the images just comes up empty with no options in it.

I'm not really sure what the issue is here?
When i first launch the asset bundle extractor i get some message about downloading visual c++ 2013 to fix some issue it claims to have... however as near as i could tell I've done that and the issue persists. (both the error and my empty plugin box)

Any help would be awesome thanks!
