Introduction
NOTE: Check out Lil Lumby's new guide for an updated method. This guide should still work however I haven't tested it in a while since I switched to linux.

I found it so annoying when i tried to use openmw as steam didn't identify it as morrowind. After a lot of research I couldn't Find any guide on how to do it, However after dabbling into steam's launch commands I found a way to run morrowind through steam.

NOTE: As of 0.43 this won't work if you run morrowind as an administrator

BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING PLEASE BACKUP YOUR MORROWIND DIRECTORY AND SAVES!!
How to set it up
1. After you installed Openmw copy all the contents of the OpenMW folder into Morrowind's Main Directory (Note that I am refering to the main Directory which contains Morrowind.exe)

2. Backup Morrowind.exe and Morrowind Launcher.exe

3. Remove Morrowind Launcher and rename Openmw_Launcher.exe Into Morrowind Launcher.exe

4. Go to your Steam Library and Right click on Morrowind and select Properties

5. Click on "Set Launch Options" and add "-benchmark"

6. Launch Morrowind through Steam and you should be able to play OpenMW with Steam
Conclusion
If you followed the steps correctly you should be able to Launch morrowind through steam and be Greeted with Openmw's Launcher. This Should work with TES3MP though I haven't Tried it yet.

Please send me a message if you’re facing any issues

Thank You for Reading and Blessings of the ALMSIVI Upon You...

i just set launch options to this:

"C:\Program Files\OpenMW 0.48.0\openmw.exe" %cmmand%

and it works just fine

I just do this in launch options for tes3mp. Other people are saying the same thing. You don't need to rename. You haven't added this so I'm still writing this comment.
"F:\FGames\Morrowind\tes3mp.Win64.release.0.8.1\tes3mp.exe" %command%

What worked for me on Linux:

Do step 1 (copy OpenMW files to Morrowind folder)
Skip steps 2-4
On step 5, put this into launch options:

./openmw-launcher #%command%

I tried doing what Sparkette said which is

openmw #%command%

This works for my Linux installation. It skips the launcher though but the settings from the launcher set previously are still remembered. You don't even need to click play the settings to be applied to Morrowind. ( Though I haven't tested this extensively so I am not 100% sure ).

on windows you can just go straight to step 4 and on step 5 you just put the location to open mw, like this

"D:\Games\OpenMW 0.47.0\openmw.exe"
make sure to KEEP the quotation marks

I think I came up with a much simpler way. Skip the first three steps and start from step 4, except instead of "-benchmark", set the launch options to:

openmw #%command%

Keep in mind I've only tested this on Linux. This might work on Mac, but almost certainly not on Windows.

You must not have show file extensions on if just naming it "Morrowind Launcher" worked.

If anyone is having issues, I found the solution to my earlier note. DO NOT name the application file of OpenMW as Morrowind Launcher .exe! Name it simply Morrowind Launcher and things should work!

There seems to be an issue with the integration, Steam claims that there is no Morrowind Launcher.exe despite having followed this guide 100%.
One thing I did notice is that Morrowind Launcher itself is not named with exe but instead looking at its properties it has the .exe baked in it. I am quite puzzled why steam claims there is no file named after Morrowind Launcher.exe
